Count Basie used to live in my neighborhood. He had a big ol pool and he had the cool grandpa vibe to him.
this is the most wholesome video acompanied by the most wholesome comment section I've ever seen
That comment Count made AFTER the tune was done was ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL
I forgot I had a headache listening to this
These two gentlemen have featured strongly in my life, from when I was a small child watching & listening to my Dad playing bluenote records & playing piano, then I started playing aged 4, now I am 52 and still playing blues & jazz piano, thanks to these two giants of the art and my late Dad, who music will always be our strongest link.
So relaxing that I almost fell asleep. That's how a ballad should be played.
Those giants will never die in my mind!
If this isn't considered one of the greatest and most poignant recordings in the entire history of jazz, it should be.
This is living and breathing PROOF that less can be far, far more than just the sum of its fundamental building blocks. It's the raw expressiveness of bare simplicity that is nearly impossible to achieve in the essence of the purest expression of a musical thought.
For a man as talented as Oscar to interview the Count is truly amazing to see............incredible. Just incredible. And the love they have for each other is palpable.
Hey Martin, nice to see you enjoying this too. What a treat. Best,
Ezra Barnes
The best! The absolute best. If you don't love this, you have no life.
Not a single note wasted, glorious!
An economy of genius talent 😎
Imagine turning the TV and this is on bbc4. Holy shit man

So crazy beautiful: mean that in the best of ways. Great.
Damn i Love Count and Oscar
Listen to NHOP add harmonics on the bass for the last note. A beautiful touch.
I wouldn't have realised without you noting that, so thank you for doing so - NHOP was such a class act.
Oh boy what a quartet! If they are all playing in heaven together, take me there ASAP!!

"I was tryin' to think of what the tune was!..." XD
Has anybody solved the mystery of what count said just before they started?
Timothy Fransky Silly question but what’s an ascap?
@@johnbrown9092 I belive its an abbreviation for "American Society of Composers". Just Google it, and you will understand!
Markus Gundersen Cheers for that. John
After playing the song Counte Basie didn't forget to compliment Oscar P. by saying that his 4-bar-intro was better than his own composition.
No better!
Yup x
perfect but wish Joe Williams was singing
no pressure on the rhythm section then...!
Great social distancing lol
