- I set out to catch a feed of yabbies for lunch in the Billabong Creek. I took some bacon and bread with me just in case I did not catch and yabbies. What I ended up with was a bacon sandwich with too much bacon served with a side serve of yabbies and shrimp for lunch.

The early shrimp you caught were small compared to the ones in my local area. Some are as long as my hand is wide. If I get more than half a dozen, I get a good feed.
Yep that’s the fruits of your labour healthy or not it’s called living your best life enjoying what you are happy doing no one knows when there time is up 11th October last year I had 8 cardiac arrest 1 week after major surgery on my bowels. We are not on this earth long enough to worry about small things like oh that’s not healthy if you’re doing as a video for some fun and entertainment for others to watch and enjoy. 😊😊

Back in 2011 I arrived at Tilpa weir for a night or two's camping with no bait. Someone had caught a carp sometime earlier and had euthanased it by cutting it in three bits. I squeezed the saddle into my opera house pot bait net and over the next three days caught over a thousand yabbies of all sizes. Had 'em boiled, curried, soyed and stewed. I was completely yabbied out at the end of the stay and gave my opera house pot away to someone on the Oodnadatta track! Haven't eaten a yabbie since! Carp IS the best yabbie bait!

Looks like a great day with lots of action. Here we have a line of clothing and accessories aimed at the surfing culture and manufactured by a company named Billabong. Heard that name when you were talking about the creek/river you were working in this video.
Yep, we have them here too. If wonder if the Billabong company was founded in Australia? I will have to look.
A Billabong is a backwater, similar to a lagoon. Some people call them Billabong and some call them a lagoon. Or even a swamp.
I think they may be called a Bayou in some parts of America.
@@robbiefishing yes, the southern states would have bayou while northern states have swamps. Same sort of terrain, just different names. Our north has a very diverse influence. German, Dutch, the Nordic regions, etc. The South has a strong French and Spanish heritage. I would bet Billabong emerged as an Australian company then imported or possibly set up a shop here in the states. It is more prominent on the west coast where the surfing sub culture is very strong. Here on the east coast we don't have the surf conditions that exist on the west coast. I think Australia has a strong surf culture too.

nice tucker there robbie carp are becoming a huge problem i went up to lake menindee hoping to get some yellas on plastics and i caught about 40 70cm carp they were teaming and on the plastics lake menindee is the hugest lake i have ever been to and if i caught that much carp in that one spot imagine how much there is

Hey Gavin, I have made two carp catch and cooks in the past. I need to space them apart. Haha They're not great. Haha I cooked one on a Tandoor Oven once. It was OK, but very bony.
Delicious, i am imagine that combination works.

Hey Robbie, we are in Australia mate and we call them prawns mate.
Hey Tim, not here we don't mate, we call them shrimp where I live. I've never heard a single person call a freshwater shrimp a prawn, other than in my CZcams comments. Maybe in other parts of the country people refer to them as prawns but certainly not here.

Thanks mate. Yeah I have a theory that the yabbies are never as prolific when there are too many carp around. I reckon that must eat the tiny yabbies before they get a chance to grow big.

I catch carp on soft plastics on a regular basis for videos on my channel, I got the idea after seeing them hunt mosquito fish and little shrimp in clear water
I have most luck catching them with light leader, a yabby or shrimp profile most of the time on a 1/16 - 1/20th jig head
Light leader because as you know they spook easy
My most recent is the big 80cm I caught on the pro lure live yabby soft plastic 💪

We have carp here in the U.S. but nothing like you. We do have a lot of fish and birds that prey on them.

if there are so many carp there ,why are people not makeing a liveing out of them ,they could grow to an enormous length and weight and great fun on light fishing or heavy fishing gear to catch and provide a lot of fun for all fishermen of all ages. i dont eat them but they are a pleasure to catch.
Hi mate, I enjoy catching them too. Charlie Carp is a fertiliser company making a living out of carp. As a full time CZcamsr, Carp videos make up a percentage of my income too.
Sadly, there is just no market for carp in Australia.
I reckon if someone could make a carp based Yabby bait they would do well but there would be a lot of hoops to jump through as carp are prohibited to be used as bait in some areas.
Mate I’m sure the wholemeal bread and the Millers evened out the bacon.

Love the catch and cook I have friends who just catch shrimp roll them in flour and fry then eat never tasted but they reckon they taste good

Yeah, some of the European people don’t realise you’re based in Australia and everything is different. Yabby meat is healthy as well. Did you know as well; the Murray cod were downgraded from critically endangered to vulnerable? Happened a while back but amazing ay

Yabby meat certainly is very healthy, when it's boiled. When it's coated in oil and fried in bacon fat it may lose a few health benefits. LOL
With goodoes no longer available, in wa, we have found that the coles brand dog food works great in the bait bombs. Cheap and always get a feed. And I'm an ex vicco😮
Thanks so much mate. I have actually used that in Yabby and Shrimp nets in the past. And even crayfish nets. It certainly worked, but I found it harder to get out of the nets when I was finished. In the bait traps it all moulded together in the bait pouch.
I guess that wouldn't be as much of a problem on a bait bomb. I might have to get some next time I'm at Coles.
You should mention that our native fish are sight-feeders, and that the invasive carp stir up the mud and actually impact on our native fish, and that if we knew that we could actually have an impact on the carp population then we would target only carp until they were all gone. Sadly, those carp are here to stay, no matter how many fertilise our gardens
I agree 100%. It doesn't matter how many we kill and how good we feel about ourselves, we're not really making any difference to them.
Was that typical bacon you used just then? It was so wide. Ours here is maybe 31mm wide before cooking.

Hello Robbie, why don't you buy a small packed of another known brand of dry dog food and see how that attracts the Yabbies. If the Yabbies don't like it, if it is a good brand, you could feed the rest to you dog as treats.

Thanks for the great feedback Ray. The quality should be about the same, it shouldn't chew more data than any of my other cameras. Straight from the camera the files may be larger, but I render the videos before I upload them so they should all be similar.

They are called freshwater shrimp in my area. I've never once in my life heard anybody call them a prawn here, other than in my CZcams comments.
Good O's probably fell victim to the free trade agreements we have with various countries. Like a lot of other good ole Aussie products gone by the wayside. Bought out and shelved by a higher priced competitor from overseas. It's sad to see us throwing away our identity in this country but that's exactly how the powers that be want it.
I gave up eating multigrain bread after I worked out it was the primary cause of the ole itchy freckle. Havn't had stinkfinger since switching to wholemeal.
If you want some really health beer you can't go past Coopers Pale Ale. Doesn't get any greener than that. Cans provide a consistent flavour. cheers.
