- We've hit the road on our epic European summer adventure and it doesn't disappoint. In this weeks episode we cross the channel into France and make our way to Belgium. We find some great wild camping spots, are wooed by the beauty of Belgian cities and country side, have a bit a dust up and some laughs along the way.

The cheapest chips that I ever had were where I grew up in the NE of England and at the local chippy they were 6d (6 pence in old money). I'm in me 70s now 😊

Going back to the 1940s I can remember my ma buying us kids 2 penny worth of chips. those were the days. Now gone but never forgotten. good travelling you two.

We used to get an individual packet of fish and chips for a shilling (10 cents) Wellington NZ when I was a child 1960s

It’s a shame we have to shoot through so quickly as we have seen so much that we want to stop and take in but it just gives us an excuse to come back again I suppose 😁

If you like Bruges then go to Mechelen, very similar but quieter. Between Brussels and Antwerp.

I travelled Europe for six months, many years ago and what I miss in Australia, is the lack of diversity of food etc. Modern boring architecture that looks the same wherever. Love the topics you discuss👍 as well as the great sightseeing.
What a lovely thing to say thank you 😊 that’s one of my favourite things about living in the UK. Having grown up in WA it blows my mind that you can access so many different places with different languages, cultures, cuisines, architecture, shops and landscapes 🤩
I have to clean my wife's sink out at least every other month from her hair clogging it up. Not to mention the vacuum cleaner. Lol

Here in Flanders when the price of potatoes goes up chips also get more expensive but when the price of potatoes lowers the price of fries remains the same so basically the days of cheap chips are over and will never come back..not a fun fact I fear

I put a yellow post-it note on my dashboard with ‘drive on RIGHT’ which saved us a couple of times when pulling out of auto petrol stations on deserted roads. When there’s no one about you risk reverting back to left side of the road driving.

I was born in Ostend and lived in Ghent for 6years. Ghent for me is the best city of Belgium not that much tourists and so much to do and see. Ghent is really big it has everything.
It’s a really beautiful place! We couldn’t believe it’s not a more we’ll know city!
I was once assaulted by a giant chip - I got the frite of my life.

France is a wonderful place to drive around. Just be aware of clean air restrictions (Crit'Air). You will need a sticker to display in your windscreen if you're driving close to certain cities. The only pain I felt was reaching across the car for the machines on the toll roads. I travel alone though. Also, never hog the outside lane. You will end up with an angry Frenchman on your backseat!

Not quite chips, but we used to get a portion of Scragg's (the broken off bits of the batter) for 10p, when I was a lad - now there was a healthy meal 🙂
My local chippy (southwest of UK) now - £10 for a small fish and chips and 30p for a sachet of brown sauce 😞

Most belgians dont want the same house as their neighbours and we tend to build a house as an individual project. Not all at once by a big company. Though that also excists. Thats why most are different to each other. You can decide on all aspects of it yourself.

Brugge is belgians n1 tourist city. So prices are alot higher there. Normally it would be +-2€ for a portion of fries depending on the size.
Good to know we will need to try the fries somewhere else 👍
I live in Belgium And the chips are worth it, Bruges is touristy, Antwerp is nice

if you want some tips for visiting low emission cities, try out "de lijn" and park in a small village close by and take a bus ore tram ...

pronounce it like : frit. when i was 15 yo i pay'd like 0,50 met saus, now it' over €2 zonder saus for that same potato 😋
