Another JRPG: "let's go beat the final boss and save the world"
Trails of Cold Steel: "let's go save the school festival so we can perform our band in front of our parents and beat the final boss before 00.00 AM"

I like how it took them until CS4 to do a save the world plot. Before then it was mostly "oh shit, this supernatural phenomenon is gonna fuck up our economy/political situation, better stop it"
Even CS4 is literally just "we have to stop the bad guy who wants to end the world because if we don't Zemurian WW1 will happen."

I like all of the Trails franchise OST, but this one and Great Power resound so much in me. Maybe because it's the beginning of a growing journey for the Class Vll, where they'll become strong enough to not be looked down on and go toe to toe with some of the most powerful individuals in the series. I grew up with the Trails series, but Class Vll feels much more personal because I felt I'm having the same journey as them.
My favorite franchise of all time. If you happen to stop upon this comment and OST by pure coincidence, take my advice and play this awesome series. Cheers.

    • @warriorofdawn876
      @warriorofdawn876 Před 2 lety +3

Totally agree with this. The first two entries in the Cold Steel series were my gateway into Falcom games as a whole, and while there are still a few flaws with the Erebonia arc, I still consider it to be a journey worth experiencing. It's pretty telling that, upon finally reaching a certain moment in the Fragments chapter of Cold Steel 4 after *years* of wanting to finally see the journey through to the very end, I genuinely burst into tears upon seeing all of Rean's friends come to his aid when he truly needed it most.
That whole 'power of friendship' may be one of the most cliché things in existence, but as Vita said way back in the first game, clichés are clichés for a _damn_ good reason.

I've never heard that one before, looked it up and I like it a lot, too. Falcom truly never disappoints in dungeon themes, especially late game ones.
Waiting for Cold Steel 2 to release on PC so I can play it haha, never had a PS3 or VITA, so I haven't had a chance to play it til now. Btw, on note of the music, I think Phantasmal Blaze might have been the very first Cold Steel arc music that I ever heard, back when I was not familiar with the series at all. I forget when or where I first heard it...may have been in a fan game or some random video.

Emma has her own storyline independent of Rean afterwards (it all revolves around her relationship to Vita and her clan).

So, I got REALLY bored and decided to write some lyrics for this track. Hope y'all like it.
    VERSE 1 - 0:15
I hear a voice in there
    There's something sleeping here
An ancient power that's been sealed away
    For many hundred years
    This stage was always set
    Before we ever met
So now we dive into the depths of old
    To meet our final test
    PRE-CHORUS - 0:46
Our story has just barely begun
But together, I know that there's nothing
    We cannot overcome
    CHORUS - 1:01
We have felled a thousand beasts
    And faced some mighty foes
    Our bonds have strengthened
But we still have far to go
    Now let's take a stand
For our school and for our band
And then grasp a tomorrow for our land
We have felled a thousand beasts
    And faced some mighty foes
    Our bonds have strengthened
But we still have far to go
    Now let's take a stand
For our school and for our band
And then grasp a tomorrow for our land
Grasp a tomorrow for our land
    VERSE 2 - 1:47
    I hear it calling me
    Silent and echoey
It pulls me through the darkness and the light
    And into Reverie
    The Ashen power calls
So now we must stand tall
    Break through our own limits
And overcome the trials, one and all
    VALIMAR SPEAKS - 2:16
CONFIRMING RELEASE OF THE SIXTH LOCK...
    POTENTIAL AWAKENER DETECTED.
    THE TIME HAS COME...
    COMMENCING THE SECOND TRIAL.
    VALIMAR SPEAKS - 2:39
    NOW... REVEAL.
UNTO ME THE COLOR OF THY SOULS...
    PRE-CHORUS - 2:53
Our story has just barely begun
But together, I know that there's nothing
    We cannot overcome
    INSTRUMENTAL PART - 3:07
    CHORUS - 3:21
We have felled a thousand beasts
    And faced some mighty foes
    Our bonds have strengthened
But we still have far to go
    Now let's take a stand
For our school and for our band
And then grasp a tomorrow for our land
We have felled a thousand beasts
    And faced some mighty foes
    Our bonds have strengthened
But we still have far to go
    Now let's take a stand
For our school and for our band
And then grasp a tomorrow for our land
Grasp a tomorrow for our land

This dungeon means absolutely nothing in the story but song good.

Yeah, a trial for Rean to become one of the key figures in the story of Cold Steel, that was conquered before by another key figure, and whose boss is the shadow of another key figure in the story, means absolutely nothing in the story. That checks out.

Just reached one of the final major dungeons in cold steel 3 and it made me return to this simply to admire how vastly superior it was to what 3 is doing with music. This theme destroys the music from 3 in epicness as well as the fact that it plays through battles. If anything, the battle theme in 3s dungeon is better than the dungeon theme and should have played throughout the whole thing. I still think this is one of the best final dungeon themes in jrpg history.

Based on what you said that the dungeon theme and battle theme are different, I think I know which dungeon theme you're referring to and if I'm correct, yeah I can agree with you.

@@NDSalamens the penultimate dungeon. The final dungeon did handle music the way I like, but it was definitely nowhere near as epic as Cold Steel 1. Thank god the plot was as insane if not more so than the first games ending, that's saved it for me lol.

I'll be honest: I was legit disappointed this served as both the dungeon and battle theme for this place, I was expecting something like what they did in FC and SC where they took a boss theme and turned it into the new normal battle theme. Oh well, it's a pretty good track nonetheless, I just feel like it doesn't work as a battle theme.

haha super opposite for me. especially enjoyed how the tempo and sense of urgency were never interrupted by transitions into different tracks or anything throughout the dungeon

FWIW I prefer Hollow Light of the Sealed Land, but this kind of uninterrupted final dungeon theme works great too. It's just a bit too similar to other Jindo trance-rock tracks though (like Ancient Land from Memories in Celceta).

For me, it's a little like "Don't Speak Her Name!" and "Id Purpose" In Fire Emblem Awakening. In Fire Emblem, having "Don't Speak Her Name!" carries the weight of what happened in the story. It's obviously a little different because of the events in the story, but the way the music is used feels the same.
I believe in the second game in the epilogue in the final dungeon, the music is interrupted to a battle theme, and it's a different feeling than having the uninterrupted music.

This is coming from someone who has finished all trails games (Zero and Ao included with full dp) except for CS2

I'd much rather be dealing with the situation in Crossbell than trying to save the school festival. Shitty school-anime game...

@@vojtis1731 I love the Crossbell games. That's kind of my point. Saving the school festival is a tad less interesting than literally anything to do with being magic cops, or the political situation with Crossbell.

But hey, in the end they face the terrorist and noble faction. It's not just the school festival :( there is a reason why CS is a saga.
