Halloween 2023 is almost here, and the Five NIghts at Freddy's movie is now out, so we decided to combine two of our favorite things and create our first custom full-sized FNAF animatronic - Springtrap.
The base animatronic we used for Springtrap was a Target animatronic skeleton - so technically this is an animatronic makeover. Not only does the skeleton animatronic have awesome movement, but Spring trap actually has a human body trapped inside of him, so it really fits the character. His suit parts are a mixture of EVA foam and 3D printed parts, all covered in green fleece and painted to look old and decayed.
This ended up being a huge DIY project for us, and we ran into a bunch of speed bumps along the way. We really hope you enjoyed seeing Springtrap in real life. Let us know what characters you want to see next!
If you love Halloween DIY projects, FNAF, and indie horror games and want to see more of our DIY Halloween props, check out our Dancing Withered Freddy and Huggy Wuggy animatronic. We also have a ton of other DIY Halloween outdoor decorations and animatronic makeovers on our channel!
Happy Halloween and Stay Wicked, y'all!

Springtrap: “I never die, I always comes back, I always does”
The coolest part of this animatronic is that it doesn't matter if a seam is kinda wonky or something doesn't quite line up. Springtrap was left to rot for decades, then literally set on fire multiple times. He's supposed to look a little rough and janky. 😊 Great work as usual, guys!

21:44 Pretty darn accurate to the games
Drilling holes through a body to put metal wires in it
This is a work of art, and a masterpiece, and I could make one. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
5:06 Scott has always been a bit weird with how he models things sometimes, especially when it's stuff that you don't normally get to see super well, given his style of modeling, I fully believe he intended that to be bits of muscle/flesh that has clumped up at those areas, and the simplest way to model that was to just make it tubing that wraps around
also another thing to mention is that his guts spilled out when he was getting spring locked, so it kinda makes sense if you think about it
Always thought it was swollen tears and ligaments
Is it not just tubing from all the mechanisms in the suit?? I’m super new to fnaf so I don’t know much, just an assumption!
@@KiraMac123 The suit is this thing called a "Springlock suit"
It can function as an animatronic with a normal endoskeleton, and attached to that endoskeleton was a series of these things called 'Springlocks' that you could crank to pull the Endoskeleton out of the way so it could be worn as a suit by a normal person. A man named William Afton would use this suit to lure kids to the parts and service room (or wherever he felt like it) to kill them and put their bodies into the other animatronics. These springlocks were susceptible to failing though, especially with moisture, so one night Afton puts on the suit and there's rain leaking through the building and it gets into the springlocks causing them to fail and the animatronic bits shoot back to their original place while he is inside the suit (crushing him very slowly and painfully) and he dies inside the suit, but his remains are now semi wrapped around the bits of the animatronic
@@KiraMac123they are actually his flesh/skin as you can see on the original model
“Where are his bones?” Replaced. The endoskeleton replaced them when the spring locks snapped into place in the suit. Literally every part of his body was forcefully merged with the endo. What a gruesome death. Metal as fuck.
Literally metal
I just love it
this inspired me to make my own spring trap cosplay thanks!

Another shorter and easier way to make Springtrap is to:
1. Make a SpringBonnie costume.
2. Put springlocks in it.
3. Put it on.
4. Simply breathe.
And then you should have a Springtrap costume!
((WARNING: Injury may occur during the process.))

Wow, I'm impressed. That turned out amazing!😯
Yall the best of making things
Fun fact about those outer eye-rings: It's relatively hard to see, but if you squint, not only are those eye rings stationary, but they're also transparent, while the inner white eye seems to have veins. It's been theorized by a lot of people that those outer eye rings are actually the rotted-out or popped-out portions of Springbonnie's eyes, while the actual white eyes are where William Afton's were forced out of their sockets and into the inner shell of the suit's.
Cool

I am at a genuine loss for words. I remember seeing that old video of that real life Springtrap animatronic in 2016, and this just brought me back, man. It's somehow even better. It's so insanely faithful to the game, while also still staying in the realm of a fully functional retail animatronic. I'm serious when I say words can't describe how much I love this. Though I already held you at high regard before, as a longtime FNaF fan, you have my full respect. This is possibly the best makeover in the haunter community. Stay wicked 🤘

This looks great! I have a small tip, and that is that if you need it to be light, I would recommend using upholstery foam instead of Eva foam! I use it in cosplays where I cover up my pieces with fabric and it looks great. It’s also cheaper, which is a plus.
one of the unfortunate downsides to upholstery foam (and all foams really but couch foam has a lotta holes!) is the risk of damp and mould- especially as this is an outdoor animatronic it may have heavily upped the risk of this thing moulding especially at this time of the year, which funnily enough is very fitting for springtrap but realistically a tad gross haha
@@jouga Yeah true, That's One of the worst thing's bout it but, I mean, it is matching springtrap so i don't see a problem with it! And plus, Ive never really made cosplay's, But i am THINKING, to making one once i have a 3d printer

This is hands down one of the best that I have seen. I’ve seen a lot of cosplays of this character and this really brings the character to life. Also love the fact that he is slightly on the smaller side😂. The movie has William Afton as this tall intimidating figure, but now I see him as a lean man that was just below average height and it makes me laugh especially with how intimidating his character is meant to be. 😂 love it

@@WickedMakers either way you guys nail every animatronic you do.
The way a springlock suit works is the animatronic parts are retractable, but they're held in place by springlocks, which aren't very reliable. And springs like, well, _springing,_ so it just kinda... shatters your bones and sprays blood everywhere when the animatronic parts spring back into place. William got ghost immortality juice, though, so he didn't die.

Great work on this animatronic! As a fnaf fan for so long, this is so cool to see! In suggestion, you should make golden freddy to go along with him just like spring bonnie and fredbear in the olden days!
Such an impressive build, and just in time for the movie 🎃
Painting the bones red kinda makes sense in terms of him being "trapped" by the suit. Living bones are usually pink, and the implied fleshiness works really well in terms of bring the appearance of the game model to the real world.
All that said, THIS WAS AMAZING! You really pulled off a last-minute victory from the jaws of defeat! I cannot wait to see where you two go as you move into DIY animatronic designs in the future. Hopefully you can exploit your fellow Austinites to find assistance in getting the control coding for future systems working. You picked a great time to get into robotics, the power and cheapness, as well as the porting of simple programming interfaces, in modern microcontrollers has never been better. I am so excited to see how this all turns out!
That was dope as heck
Absolutely amazing.
Love the attention to detail and the fact you two didn't give up when the arms didn't work as expected. Sometimes the convenience features of something, adjustable arms in this case, work against you. As far as I know, the mechanism behind this is 2 shallow angle crown gears pressed against each other with a bolt and spring. If you're not able to disassemble the shoulder to replace the spring, or tighten the bolt, maybe driving 2 screws into the shoulder would provide another option, albeit a less adjustable one.
The absolute dedication to this build is amazing. Those extra parts would be awesome for a cosplay!
🤘🏼😄

You did forget the button on his torso, but it looks really realistic, and we can tell you put lots of effort into making this
What buttons? This Springtrap is inspired by the game, not the movie. Two different styles, two different Springtraps. The one from the game has no buttons and has a more greenish color with more wither and tear. They even used a literal copy or outline from the game and 3D printed it out so it’s almost perfectly accurate… They made this animatronic before the movie even came out. Did you not watch the video???? 🤦🏻♀️
@@jassyjas19Kind a long way to say it's the game character not the movie character
Watching this come together was almost as if I was watching Scott Cawthon himself model the actual spring trap into the game. So incredibly amazing how well it came together and watching it turn on gave me chills to see how well it ran with all the weight on top! Maybe one of these days I’ll buy a bamboo printer and make myself a costume out of one of the models, seeing you guys wear some of the pieces made it seem like they were pretty compatable for human wearing, albeit with maybe a bit of tinkering 😂
"Why are there intestines around his ackles and in places they shouldn't be"
Well let me give you guys some backstory.
In the lore, mainly the books, specifically Silver eyes, he mentions how springlocked felt like. "Within a split seconds, all the metal from the endo-skelaton with drive straight into you." Also, he was trapped in a storage room for over 30 Years. He was only dead for 15. So about have the time. SInce those 30 years, he says, quote, "I ripped out my organs from the suit, it was so painful, it made me want to die even more." So from this, we can say that he was pulling things out from what they where meant to be. So those organs wrapped around his Feet could've been Vital organs.
When you're springlocked, the eyes from the suit push into your eyes, causing them to either explode, or pop out of their sockets in place for the animatronic's eyes. All his teeth fell out due to the springlocks jabbing his face. The point being that these springlocks covered every INCH of the suit. So therefore everything in him was gone within seconds.
The bone situation. I metioned earlier how Afton was stuck in a room for over 30 Years. His bones could've also fell off. And Fazbear frights? Every single Fazbears Entertainment place was Burned down. Afton was springlocked in the Second Location.. It Was burned downed Then Reconstructed to The Third Location. Afton was also in the second location during the fire. This is what gives the suit it's burned texture.
Wow man thanks I never knew about this information 😮
You're welcome.@@CollinSmith-dt5zp

Fun fact Springtrap’s bones actually got crushed, and the endoskeleton became his bones all the bones got crushed and fell out of the suit, and then his flesh got stuck to the suit 2. The suit did not malfunction the suit actually got activated by water so in the game it shows that the water droplet touched one of the spring locks.
