I first started playing astronneer when the vehicle bay was still a thing and that the creative mode started you in a canyon with a buggy and a infinite resource fabricator

Its always fun to look at the older,more simple times of Astroneer,but then i remember that we didnt had any RTG's/Auto extractors/events/ect...
Im glad i got to see astroneer grow into the game we all love,but you know,oldschool astroneer had its own charm too...would be nice if we get some of the older content re-added into the game but with a more refined twist

I've been playing since early access, and i sometimes miss the difficulty of the pre 1.0 patch era. Loved the storms, the random research you got and the old caves layout.Sure, a lot of new things are awesome, like automation and the easier travel between planets (it could take 10 minutes or more before a planet got into reach of your shuttle! Ah, the good ole days :)) so for me it's always a mixed feeling.I love one thing, and miss the other. Still playing in 2024, and having lots of fun!
You know how we can get the best of both worlds?
An OG Mode in the Custom Games menu, where we can play the old versions of Astroneer!
Started to play in january this year :-) At first I didn't even know you could be hurt by anything else than falling (then I discovered the spikes). But even with only 3 months prior the update the tapper is a bit overkill. I mean you just don't need any resource anymore except astronium sometimes. I think it's a great game overall, I'll try to unlock the cooperative achievements then I'll pause it until the next big event.
I like the events! And I'm glad they are a thing, because we didn't use to have any of them!
Wow ! I miss the oldest Astroneer and System Era when I was in High School it was serene and explore in the 2017-2019 Early Access era it's the greatest :)

What did they add to make it easier? #1 compass. Before that if you didn't read the stars you just got lost for hours. Tpper is the real killer tho. Literally omits exploration.

Totally off topic, but I consider the infinite organic tap inclusion as a game breaking mechanic. You can build, very early on, a power station with 8 small generators that constantly produce 15 Us/s of energy. I mean, one of the big drives to make it into the late game was to get everything unlocked and all the resources to make RTGs. You do not need any RTGs anymore. Like, never... because the small generator powerstation brings you through the mid game stage... and two power stations (16 small generators) are entirely enough to get everything going, including the atmo condenser (16 small generators, minus 2 for the autoarms, produce 30 Us/s).
The tap is like a near god tier type of tech that you can unlock early on and never concern yourself with energy needs ever again. Seriously: Batteries? Who needs batteries when you can have 15 Us/s in the first 30 mins of the game... forever? Who needs solar power, wind power or nuclear (RTG) power, when you can just burn green or black (carbon) stuff for your base indefinitely?
I dunno... I don't think the inclusion of the organics tap was such a good idea for the game.
I completely agree! In fact, I've already filmed a video talking about how game-breaking the tapper is. It should come out in the following weeks.
Honestly, I think they will have to make the tapper waaaay more expensive to craft or they will make it produce organic muuuuch slower. Otherwise, none of the power items make sense anymore...

Or they could change up the resources you need to build the tap - make it more expensive (like using a Steel composite to make one tap), and: How about making the plants (I use the bouncevines as source, because with those you can place the taps very easily) depletable? Like they wither over time and then die. But still... even such a mechanic would make the organics tap OP. Or only very specific plants that can be used for the taps... only found on a planet that is not the starter-planet, so you have to make the shuttle, the thruster and a few other items to get this plant with the standard start. There are so many ways to make it more acceptable for the game.
First they removed the hazards, then they included QRTGs (which take away the need for on-board energy generators for the player, like the small generator) and the small oxygenator as well as the portable smelter (1 U for the same effective performance as the standard smelter, which burns at the same rate but with 5 Us/s - so having 5 portable smelters on a medium platform would burn 5 nuggets simultanously, while using the same amount of power as the standard smelter).
I don't know why System Era keeps implementing those game breaking items into the game. Do they think their game is too hard otherwise? Anyway, it's really puzzling.
@@TRG_TheRantingGerman They said that by the end of the year, we will get "new gameplay" and "something that's never been done before in Astroneer".
So I'm guessing these items will work differently or at least there will be a system overhaul for power maybe? (as well as a new solar system??? where everything works differently??? idk🤷♂️)

Yeah, you know, I have been criticizing (politely of course) System Era for some years now, to milk Astroneer on the fringes for the basics, like cosmetics. To be fair, they implemented quite a lot of changes in story and content in the meantime. But your desire for a new or differently working solar system is completely reflected with me: I also asked for years to get a new solar system, with new or at least altered rules, with a higher difficulty and such. The custom game modes somewhat delievered on that.
Example: I still try to get the "Unbeatable" beaten... I have most of the resources that I need to beat it, but I lack compound... I don't think this predefined game mode is not beatable (thus "unbeatable", even though I am not quite convinced of that yet). It's the hardest mode I ever played, and I am stuck for a lack of compound. I might still find it; still have to sift through roughly 65% of soil in my reach to maybe, just mabye, find it.
That's what I want: Something that is so damn difficult that it keeps me glued to the game. A new solar system, as you propose, would definitelly do that.
Also: Isn't the "Traveler" an unfinished story figment of the game since 2018? They could finally expand on that one.
