controversial take: although sm2 is a great game with really good combat and gameplay mechanics, and a game that defined my childhood and overall love for spiderman, i will always choose usm over sm2 simply because it has a far more compelling story and better visuals. i also think animations and character models are much more refined than sm2.
My only problems with USM are 1) the combat seems more simple and having to jump to get out of the way interrupts the flow of combat and the lack of a dodge button causes heavy damage when fighting larger groups of enemies on combat tours etc. and 2) the swinging always felt a little slow to me and I didn't enjoy having to climb the web on every swing to go up and forward enough. Other than that I tend to agree; the story of USM is way better and the graphics are significantly better too - although part of the reason they have held up is due to the art style I believe. If I was going to choose just one, I would choose ultimate for the story and graphics and Spider-Man 2 for the swinging. If you haven't, I'd recommend looking up Spider-Man 2 Project RE which is a remaster mod for the GameCube emulator which adds a bunch of textures and customized costumes and makes the game look waaaaaaaay better.

@@juliancampos519 I use to be camp spiderman 2 but now I like both games webswinging equaly for different reasons. Usm in my opinion is way easier to master but has a way more fluid feel. Whereas spiderman 2 has high speed skill based web swinging that is a lot more difficult to do consistently without atleast fumbling.

If the records are straight, Ultimate Spider-Man has appeared in only 3 console games: Ultimate Spider-Man 2005, Spider-Man: Battle for New York, and Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
My first game ever was Battle for NY on the gameboy. Seeing that gameplay was so nostalgic it reminded me of when it was my first time playing it from the soundtrack to the audio of the Goblin throwing fire balls and killing those ghosts

Honestly ultimate Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2000 on ps1 are probably my favorite Spider-Man games and you can correct me I won’t listen to it but you can correct be but I think ultimate is the only Spider-Man game to date where venom is the villain but also the secondary protagonist in a 3D spider man game
