Less than a car, but more than a bike. Perfect all-weather commuter vehicle for single workers of modest means. A proven design with many virtues, and a ready market, and one that established motor companies absolutely REFUSE to build under any circumstance. What DO you do? Chase mirages of Dales, Elios and Apteras that never pan out, or start drawin' and wrenchin? My take on the concept may be more ambitious, as I want freeway capability and know that having no crash protection outside of a helmet, it will have to protect you like the motorcycle it legally is, with power and agility as it's main defense. Seeing your minimal, motorbike-like expression of the concept is a real inspiration to get started though. Not a welder, but I know a couple good ones, and could get it framed up with my next stimmy check, then I have all Summer long to do the body and canopy before the rains come again. Personal transpo that isn't an economic millstone for those who spend half their money on rent, Count me in!
with the flex joint on the bottom of the steering shaft you can make the mount near the steering come up with the windshield / canopy if thats hinged on the front , would make getting in and out a lot eazier
Handyman! Way to go. Fun!Neat! wish I could or knew how to do this for my Pontiac Montana van. Lol. It needs a steering rack. Good skills and equipment to have.
Not sure Vanity. I'd like to use it around my area on side highways and side roads. Possibly Freeway use but not very interested in competing with the big rigs.
I love this and I’ve been drawn back with this latest project! Are you planning on selling plans? Sure hope so! Keep up the great work! Can’t wait to see this on the road!! Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺
With the axle construction as it is at the moment, thrust struts are still required. Otherwise there may be a nasty surprise when braking. There is no problem with leaf springs in the longitudinal direction. Or build or A-Arms!
Hi, A few years ago I built an electric racing car, mainly using aluminium channel pop riveted together. In the US do you have to get official approval to put a home build car on the road as we do here in the UK.
In most states it is listed as a motor cycle. Some it’s listed as an experimental vehicle. I had a trike years ago built from the front end of a small pickup and the back of a motoguzzi. It was an eye catcher.
I am always very scared when I see the motor and some parts right behind the drivers spine cause I think in case of a front accident that will cut your spine in half. So I would at least put some inforcements in but that increases the weight, unfortunately...
You could have bought a larger steering wheel and used an R spring clip/pin. It would behave the same way Formula 1 race car drivers get in and out of their cars.
Don't forget your panhard bar. You may have enough room in front of the axle to install one. Excellent video of panhard basics: czcams.com/video/liR1--EHMg8/video.html&feature=emb_logo
I love watching these, thank you for sharing your temporary obsessions with us viewers!
Wow! I love your inventions!!!
Love the new series I’ve been watching your channel for a long time always enjoy the videos
I clicked like👍, as soon as I saw this populate on my screen!!! This guy is awesomely genius!!😀👍👍👍
Thanks Charlie!
@@paulwelkinsdiy Thank you, Sir!
I love your technical testing methodology. Such precise movements. It’s looking good.
Thankyou for being such an inspiration for so many around the world. Its looking great. Stu in Berlin
Thanks Stewart!
Make sure you put a trailer hitch.
That thing is looking frickin awesome!

you could make the sterring wheel removable with a pin for easier entry.
Hello again Paul , I felt and shared your excitement many times during this awesome video .
Great video you do great things. I love your realistic approach to shelter.
Can't wait to see it finished!!! Cheers
Nice job this far Paul!

I was thinking of that, but you'll see where my ever changing mind finally landed in the next video!.
I’m really enjoying this build so far! Just had to say something… LOL. I’ll be waiting on the next one.😁
Thanks Dylan!
Nuevo suscriptor 👍👍👍 Espero ver mas videos relacionados a este proyecto, son demasiado interesantes... Saludos desde Costa Rica 🇨🇷🇨🇷🇨🇷

Glad to see you still at it, very exciting build! Be cool for a minimalist camper trailer 🤩
Hmm... I just might!
@@paulwelkinsdiy 😎ooh yes, This is going to be epic!
@@hirokawiti4932 Yes he just might !
@@paulwelkinsdiy You could pop stud on a canvas cover to match you Conestoga trailer. A la Velorex. Have you seen one of those?
There is a chap in the UK who built something very similar around 20 years ago. He used a Yanmar diesel engine and gets around 450mpg.
Paul... do you think that you'll actually use this or is it just another temporary obsession?
Not sure Vanity. I'd like to use it around my area on side highways and side roads. Possibly Freeway use but not very interested in competing with the big rigs.
I love your projects.

Suggestion: make it flip up/adjustable or easier to remove so the operator can get in and out of the vehicle easier
Looking got so far Paul
Have a great day

Or build or A-Arms!
Getting there👍
Please consider putting a collapsible element in the steering column/harpoon.
Have you thought about adding a "rag joint" to the steering column to protect your sternum (in the event of an accident)?
That will be answered in the next video (wink!)
removable steering wheel may be an option?
Could you maybe have made a steering wheel that would fold in half through the center diameter with slide lock coupling over hinge point?
I'd love to build an electric version that could do 80-100 miles on a charge.
Yes and honestly using fossil fuel is ECOCIDE!
You can do cheaper doing 20 miles, since nobody will use yhis vehicle for lomg jorneys

I know it's your build, and you have every right to name it, but It's called Tadpole Trike!
You must have missed my mentioning Tadpole in one of these videos. I've been studying these trikes for much much too long. A DEFINITE obsession!
You are amazing
Super cool
Hi Paul, nice project as usual, is it possible to have an authorization for use on public roads in the USA, maybe very difficult ...
In most states it is listed as a motor cycle. Some it’s listed as an experimental vehicle. I had a trike years ago built from the front end of a small pickup and the back of a motoguzzi. It was an eye catcher.
make the steering wheel removable to get in and out like a race car chain it to the dash

I was thinking of going that route, but decided not to.
where did you get that universal joint?
Amazon!
wish i could build one of these, but the materials is going to be too expensive for me to buy and then build it.... i hate that
A "fuel efficient reverse trike" is simply called a "xxl velomobile"...
how about bendy or motorized spider legs for rising of the wheels
any steering enforcement

it will be a really rough ride with no suspension
With a mono shock in back and 2 up front it can’t be as bad as a hard tail Harley.
@@robertedge6902 It should be fine for road use.
Ayrton Senna
Have you no aluminium!!
Get it done already! I wanna see it rolling down the street!
As do I, but these are more or less 'process' videos showing you on-the-fly techniques on how to solve problems.
@@paulwelkinsdiy Yeah....I actually enjoy the process. But I love the finished product as well. 🙂
The only good thing to come out of Boeing
LOL!!
Trouble with these builds they rarely used In the real world. Shame really
