    Welp Project Stellar from MakeMHZ is currently a hot mess missing most of it's advertised features. It's currently no more of an "ODE" than a softmodded xbox.
    No 128mb ram support, No Xiso, or CISO support currently.
    Apparently it's going to use a whole new format and existing iso formats likely won't be supported. Don't buy the hype, this thing is no where near ready and currently no better than a tsop with m8 evox.
    If you already have the original hd+ with patched M8 you're probably better off staying there for now.
    Personally I recommend using Cerbios with a different hdmi solution.

      The XBOX HDMI (Now HD+) was a nightmare. The install was easy on a 1.6, but the software was absolute hell on launch and really even a year later it still had some issued . Trying to get that and the Xenium on compatible updates took a long time, because the original software wouldn’t work with all TV’s/Monitors, not sure it it was a sync issue at whatever frequency the thing ran at or if it didn’t follow proper HDMI spec. Whatever 2.0 software I have on there now stays and I’m done forever messing with it since it seems to finally work with multiple TV’s, but I’ll probably not have all the features.

    It sure seems like a lot of other posts and videos gloss right over how bare bones it is. I kept hearing about potential rather than what it could actually do. After experiencing the Psio and Terraonion products I really don't trust in potential anymore.
    If anything It really highlights how mature the HDMI projects from Citrus3000psi and PixelFX have been. When it comes to ODE and video mods I want them to just work.

    Thank you for this video. Was really looking into getting the best HDMI option and figured Stellar might be nice to have aswell but i'm having second thoughts now. Maybe better to spend some money on a cheap adapter and live with the less than perfect image quality and a simple TSOP flash but save more than a €100. Problem is for me at least revisiting an old console is always very shortlived ... afterwards it goes back in the box for another decade. Also these day's shipping half working stuff is becoming the norm .. from games to even cars it all get shipped asap with promises,bugfixes,payed services down the line. They say "updates" i see shit that should have worked in the first place. Thanks for bringing a critical view to this ... especially compared to the other video's arround. I don't get why stuff needs to be sold before it's finished ... no doubt this is an amazing piece of kit worth of the price and props to the makers but just finish it and then sell it not before and everyone will be much happier.

    • @ModzvilleUSA
      @ModzvilleUSA  Před 11 měsíci

      No it won't frag unless it's installed incorrectly. The 128mb ram will show up in stellaros but once you boot to the dashboard it won't be accessible.
      TLDR 128mb isn't supported at all yet. If you have it installed it just won't be accessible.
      WIth openxenium m8 there's a patch to get 128mb working so openxenium with patched m8 is currently more capable

    This thing has the potential to do things that weren't possible before, but I definitely agree that listing features on the Features page that the chip doesn't support yet was a bad move. I was disappointed with how basic it was when I first got mine (I went back to Cerbios at first), but features have been added that made me switch back to it (1.4ghz support, more partition layouts). It has a lot of potential, but will take time for that potential to become a reality. I'm excited to see what comes out over the next few months, but as it stands, it still has a lot of room to grow.
    I think Dustin (Makemhz) is a very talented developer who is capable of delivering on promised features, but again, expectations were set (by him) that the chip could do more than what it currently offers, and that created a lot of issues I see people have with it.
    Also, loading other BIOSes would be cool, but I can kind of understand why that isn't a priority for them. If all you want to do is load Cerbios, this chip isn't for you. Doing so would negate the need for an ARM co-proccesor and all the work that went into re-compiling the stock BIOS at boot time. I was interested in Stellar for the platform that it is, not just the ability to run unsigned code and such, like other chips/BIOSes offer. Once it matures, it will be impressive. For now it's still somewhat early in its life cycle and has plenty of room to grow before it becomes a truly compelling product.
    That co-proccesor excites me though. One drawback of the way Xboxes operate is that they don't have the ability to multi-task. When you launch a game or app, that's all that is running. With Stellar, it opens up the possibility of running background tasks. I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually see plugins that do all kinds of fancy things, like maybe even having an Xbox-360-like overlay on top of apps, where you can take screenshots, play music or perform other tasks without rebooting. StellarOS already kind of does this when you launch into its menu during startup, which shows the potential for this.
    But users need to be aware that they're mostly paying for what's to come later, as opposed to what it currently is. I knew this when buying, but was still kind of surprised what features were "planned" versus what was already supported. Updating that Features page would go a long way towards transparency and setting expectations accordingly.

    I mentioned on Twitter as well but DVD eject to dashboard is not patched out with Stellar so it messes with using the disc drive in apps other than the dashboard like XBMC (not set as dash) or DVD2Xbox.
    The IGR is janky and reboots the whole console vs the Dash.
    Ejecting the tray exits to the dashboard but UDMA drops from (whenever you have selected) to UDMA2 until the console is restarted via the power button or IGR combo.
    The lack of 128MB is strange as Stellar should just pass through the ram.

      @ModzvilleUSA  Před 11 měsíci +9

      Man it's been an unpleasant ride since then. I'll sum up my experiences between the two videos.
      - Got second hdmi kit in, swapped it in and it worked fine. Was told I probably fucked the first up with a bad mod chip install which makes no sense whatsoever.
      - Later down the line I installed an Hd+ in a 1.0 only to find out that 720p would freeze using their kits. They said just replace all the capacitors which worked for literally no one. Eventually they mad another qsb to address 1.0 720p freezing issues but tried to make it out to be a user error. No clue if the second qsb actually worked. From what I've heard 1.0s still have a shit load of issues with Makemhz products.
      - Did an install for someone eventually. It ended up fragging when it installed. I narrowed it down to the reach around portion of the flex cable. People in the discord were talking down to me and busting my chops until it was revield that there was a new flex design that the documentation didn't cover. Pin spacing changed ect. I was counting the spacing right but since it was a new undocumented design i had to do it differently.
      - the 1.6 flex cables aren't double sided and are stupid weak and rediculess to get a proper connection. I think they're just cheaping out on materials. It could be stupid easy to install but those flex cables need to be double sided.
      - All around unpleasant behavior from dustin showing up in my mentions everytime I list xbox parts for sell. Saying stuff like I sell bogus xbox ram, any Xenium firmware that doesn't have his branding with brick consoles, Just blatant bullshit. He does the same thing to anyone else who provides Og xbox products.
      Makemhz is the worst company in the space. If you have an issue with their product you'll be gaslit, talked down to and brushed off.

    I was super excited for the stellar, installed it, then realized I had to buy an upgrade kit to connect it to my HDMI+. Got the kit an installed everything, XBOX crashed constantly. The mobo had been recapped so I decided to try another power supply I had lying around, thinking maybe some aging caps on my current PSU were at fault. Upon booting the new PSU something shorted on said PSU and completely killed my HDMI+ and the input board for the display it was plugged into. The XBOX is 100% a-ok, and I know this is my fault, but you'd think there would be some better protection on the board, the fact that nothing died on the XBOX, but my HDMI+ and monitor are now dead, makes me concerned about the fragility of this expensive hardware. Dell is at least happily replacing my monitor after I explained what happened, but I'm left with a dead HDMI+ that is now roughly twice what I paid for it to replace. I just re-installed the original AV port, am using an XOSVP now, and using a Jafar chip I built up with xblast + cerbios. Everything works and is super stable now, and looks great through a retrotink.

    • @MichaelM28
      @MichaelM28 Před 11 měsíci +2

      It's not pointless but without better scaling (limited to 720p/1080i maximum) the image quality improvement doesn't justify the price and work. Best to wait for PixelFX (creators of the PS1Digital) to release their HDMI mod for the xbox.

    • @KainArkanos
      @KainArkanos Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@MichaelM28 I honestly wouldn't let the scalability of it determine if its worth a purchase or not. If it already had all the features it had listed then it'd be a no alternative buy for anyone looking to get the best out of their xbox, especially since unlike PixelFX's type of digital mods, the whole point of XboxHD+ was fixing compatibilities and trying to create a more native mod of running HD content on an HD capable machine. I personally think even a straight 480p digital mod just to lose the digital to analog conversion would be great with Retrotink 4k on the horizon within another year or two as having digital to provide out to an upscaler that accepts digital that's going to go much further than any individual mod in any system is going to give the best experience you'll probably ever get.

    • @leonkiriliuk
      @leonkiriliuk Před 11 měsíci

      @@MichaelM28 I prefer the method MakeMHZ had for the HDMI implementation; use as much of the base hardware to generate the video; if you need any advanced features, let a scaler (like the RT4k) handle it for you. While PixelFX makes great products, they tend to be an all-in-1 solution which means you got the full scaler + features which results in longer dev time, more bugs in the beginning, and significantly higher up front cost.
      XBOX HD+ is more similar to how GCVideo works in that respect.
