Happy birthday Amy. Did you notice the ornate bridges? Rule of the country roads :::Always walk with traffic coming toward you safest way. You can’t see what is behind you. I was taught this when I was 4years old and never forgotten. You two do walk a lot on dark lanes. Take care and enjoy rally. It’s lovely to see the old boats still going ❤❤❤

Those tunnels... especially the wobbly ones are nerve wracking... you did so well! wow
Having recently travelled through Braunston tunnel for the first time we completely agree that it is a very bendy and awkward one! We passed 3 boats going through, with just a couple of nudges, but there were loud bumps, scrapes and shouts going on behind us! Yes, that water point near the marina (and the famous Gongoozler's Rest cafe boat) is little more than a dribble. Hope you had a good birthday :)

My sister and I are coming to Oxford (also Manchester) in January and wanted to take a narrow boat ride. We are from the States. It seems as though most don't do rides in January. Is it just because of a lack of tourists that time of year? Any suggestions?
The boating season tends to be from March through to the end of October. This is for many reasons but the winter months are the main time that Canal and River Trust carry out repairs to the system. This means that there are lots of closures so boats can't travel. In addition, the canals can and do freeze over in the winter so boats can't move anywhere. Oxford does have trip boats but they tend to be river cruiser type boats rather than narrowboats. There are some narrowboat hire bases nearby. They may have day boats available for hire.
Sadly the trip boats probably won’t be operating on the thames because of the river levels. January is flood season so the river would be too fast flowing and dangerous.
Hire boats on the canals tend to be hit and miss. Some places will close but some will be open. Just maybe don’t plan a long trip as the canal may freeze etc. 😊 Hope you get to sort something though!
