For anyone wondering why Dragon Rulers werent #1. As I said I took into consideration the deck's power relative to its era. Dragon Rulers were in the SAME SET AS Spellbook of Judgment. Prophecy were nearly just as good as them at that time. Pepe and Teledad had no competition in the slightest at full power.
The only thing about that is that Blackwings are much more consistent and have their own outs to situations like Delta Crow, Sirocco to swing over strong monsters, etc.
I mean I believe when Blackwings were at full power they had Oppression and Judgement, which do that in themselves. I get that that isn't a testament to the deck, but rather the deck during that format.
during the format when it was in its prime, it was really easy to otk with them, especially since they had dark strike fighter as well. the deck got hit twice (if I remember correctly), causing kalut, black whirlwind, and Gale to be put to 1, and dark strike fighter to get banned.
I'm kinda surprised you didn't include Mermails and Infernity after the decks have been so powerful in a number of different formats. Then there was Yatalock which was practically the reason the banlist was made in the first place. And only an honorable mention to Burning Abyss? That deck has been the true terror of the meta since late 2014 now.
Since the criteria is how powerful these decks were relative to most other decks in their format, I think this list is mostly correct. However, I think a top 10 that lists how powerful decks themselves were (without comparing them to other decks in their format) would be interesting to see as well.
No mention of frogs? They were so broken they had to rewrite all of the frog cards so that Frog the Jam was excluded from all of their card effects Kappa
I loved playing against Dragon Rulers Decks. So overpowered it felt like going up against the final villain in a series finale. Brutal. Ruthless. Epic.
I completely agree with your list Cap. At first I was sceptical because Performapals and Do rulers were forces to be reckoned with, but after hearing your explanation I was totally on board. Thanks for the great video once again
+Armageddon Knight you call yourself Armageddon knight. First turn triple trish, and the xyz build that won worlds and was relevant till they killed it, was still more dominant than a number of the others on the list. Also if it's not that bad archfiend back at 3 yeh?
infernity didn't do anything to soul charge nor lavalval chain. nekroz made lavalval banned, and soul charge was just a very abusable card. they're strong, but never did anything meta defining. I would classify it as a strong sleeper deck.
Wow, I really am new to the game. I've only been around to experience PePe's dominance, and hearing about all these old decks is like reading about ancestors to me.
i remember pulling a DaD and not knowing what it was but everyone else was freaking out, sold it for 400 cash and like 100 worth of cards ( in australia there expensive asf )
You really ought to redo this video again in 2024. I'd love to see it. It'd be really interesting to see how much things have really blown up in terms of power. I'd watch and drop a like for sure.
i feel like infernity should be number 9 or 10, at the very least an honorable mention , otherwise agree teledad, pepe and rulers are definitely the top 3 and id agree with your ordering
CCC was such a funny format..."I could just Snatch Steal his Spirit Reaper right now and we could continue this duel....I could just do it...right now....temptation...growing..."
I consider DAD to be the single most influencing card in the entire game. It has the perfect storm going for it. Easy summoning conditions, can be dropped in multiples. Just for summoning it, can be a +3. When you have not only one deck, but two decks, and entire formats named around one card, that might just be the best card ever created. I wish it were at three again! I love that card.
Kudos MCG. I am from Columbus Ohio and an older YGO player (just turned 50). I started in 2003 and that summer went to Origins. Got it bad and became a judge. I sadly quit when my wife died as she and I did the ygo tourneys together. I am now ready to slowly get back into it. Your videos are enjoyable as you mix the meta with opinion and intelligent outlook. Keep up the good work. Enjoying the heck out of your vids. Take care -D-
Oh.Teledad. I remember that format well. This being it was the last competitive format I ever played before quitting the game. Overall, good list. I liked how you put cookie cutter control(triple CCC I used to call it). That brings back memories. That said, I never played during Dragon Rulers format. To those who played in it, what was it like? I know plenty who didn't like it. Overall, keep up the good work, Cap.
Před 8 lety+1
Great Countdown.. I still remember the days I used to hate Gladiator Beasts every tourney I went i prayed not a GB deck pls.. only control deck i was truly afraid of
Dragon Rulers are the best deck of all times. Imagine if they were at full force right now and they were allowed to use the new cards that have come out since 2013. They would squash everything.
my decks were probably some of the most powerful when i played, since i build decks to beat the net decks.. like the cyber stein decks, gadgetss, darkworld [dark world would rekt most of these on the list] . ring of destruction+barrel behind the door. for the cyber stien decks, jinzo blood mooned most decks, chaos sorcerer exiled cards. and the one time i came back to play since no mtg even was happening ,i used dd warrior ladys to exile pendulums and samurai.
I'm surprised that BAs weren't mentioned. They may not have defined a format, but they have remained for such a long time and managed to remain extremely relevant through all of it.
Very surprised not to see Yata-Lock on this list. There was a time when all core components of the deck were straight up banned in both formats and are still banned in the TCG (Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End, Yata Garasu, Sangan, Witch of the Black Forest, Painful Choice). This was the deck killed by the very first Forbidden Limited list!
Tele-DAD deserves to be #1. People are forgetting that when Tele-DAD was the top in its time, the game had monster summon priority, which they got rid of shortly before xyz came out. On top of that, it had Dark Strike Fighter (pre-errata) which, at the time, could kill off a player without them having to do any extra work. Summon DAD (declare priority and kill something), spam synchros, summon Dark Strike, attack with all of them. If they weren't dead, Strike them with MASSIVE effect damage for game. Decks nowadays cant do that, and for good reason. It took Konami multiple formats to kill off that deck.
You see you can't say these are the best decks of "All time" since the game isn't over therefore meaning more decks in the future that can best this list
one other comment. psrformages were a great deck and powerful however dropped gb's to play infernoids and never lost to the deck. It has the ability to shut the deck down quickly keeping the grind game out of play. when emergency ban list happened kozmos came back and wrecked for a little while more. the only deck infernoids ever struggle with lol
I don't agree because even when full power short of lose one turn didn't really win that many big tournaments compared to the other power houses like Nekroz, Burning Abyss and Shaddolls.....I felt even with all the floodgatey cards it still fell short a majority of the time
Sparda51 I think of it from the Towers Perspective: Towers was a card that literally did change the game of yugioh, It was one of the rare "unaffected by everything" cards and it forced people to play dumb shit to try and out it. Of course Lightning is a thing nowadays, but back in 2015 it was a real problem, and I think Qli's were the only deck that could stand a strong chance against nekroz in a singles match because of their floodgates, and also they don't really SS from the deck to often. and final point, an equip spell with 4 effects....broken.
Tele Dad was hands down the best deck ever. I never played it irl but at the time i was playing the world championship games on the DS. It had the best synergy i have ever felt. On my second place is the old lightsworn- flamvell deck. Lightsworn itself was amazing. JD was truelly a bossmonster. But summuning 2 Level 8 Synchros with jsut 1 Rekindling was just insane.
I will say as a owner of a blackwing deck, going against another blackwing user is both fun and increasingly annoying as the duel goes on Both keep special summoning, deck searching and both trying to combo each other with Kalut/shura, and Elphin.
I feel like burning abyss should be up here because they literally almost won back to back NAWCQ and the way they adjusted through the formats was insane I think that they probably in the top 5 decks of all time maybe even better than nekroz on the consistency level
Teledad was my favorite format. You couldnt just win by herp derp summons and stuff. It took skill to play in that format, whether it was Lightsworn, Glad beast, LaDD, or Teledad, you had to know your matchups and mirror matches were insane to play. Miss that format.
Agreed. Too much speed and too much derp summon methods. There were herp derp summon plays in that format, but they required more skill and risk play to pull it off. You didn't just go in YOLO knowing you were just going to get a floater play off if it failed.
I wasn't around during glad beast or teledad but I still think Chaos control yata is the best. There were literally only 3-5 decks in existence at the time gravekeepers(lol), burn, exodia, beatdown and chaos control yata.Heck the banlist started because of chaos control yata. Kinda surprised full power Qli didn't make the list or at least honorable mention.
I mostly agree with this list I personally wish Infernity was at least an honorable mention but that's probably just personal bias because I love the deck
I think lightsworn should have been on the list somewhere but otherwise pretty spot on. people who are saying "where is yata lock" that was one card so it fits under cookie cutter on number 6.
Air blade turbo should've been on here. If I remember correctly, it took all of the top 16 spots at an SJC. The deck was legal for a single weekend before the limiting of Stratos I believe. I could be wrong on some of that, but I'm pretty confident that I'm at least partially right.
Air Blade probably wasn't on it because it was legal for so short a time, he said that Performages and pals would have been higher but they were only legal for 1 month.
I played in Tele-Dad format...I had Tele-Dad. I remember games where people would show each other their hands and both would agree one who had that game before they even played.. I had to take a 2 format break after Tele-dad lol.
4:34 woah woah woah nekroz is not the second most consistent it is THE most consistent, no other deck EVER can litteraly play any card in the deck at any time, and before the predictable pepe is most consistent the fact that some of its consistency relys on summoning means it already loses in consistency to nekroz.
Black wings might've been ranked higher if Konami gave them competitive cards and not tier 3 monsters. On top of that we *barely* got any new useful spells or traps.
the only match up where rulers might struggle would be against kozmo but even then they could side things such as stormforth to get rid of dark destroyer plus the had access to vanity's at 3 and skill drain if they where legal to day nothing would beat them they are undoubtedly the best deck
Update should consist of Zoodiacs and maybe something else. Idk how good Inzektors were back in the day when they were around, but i heard they were pretty broke.
best decks of all time in no particular order are 1 mermail (have adapted to multiple metas and been competitive) 2 dragon rulers (one of the greatest and most powerful decks of all time) 3 nekroz (djinn lock, everything searchable, trish etc was just op) 4 burning abyss (have adapted to many metas and when new link comes will be relevant again) 5 zoodiacs (1 card xyz was op for the meta) 6 pepe (needed an emergency ban list no more needs to be said) 7 infernity (adapts to every meta has been around for years and its hit so hard on the ban list you'd swear mike Tyson did the hitting) 8 monarchs (seems to adapt to every meta. has had more variations than I can count) 9 teledad (for how good it was at the time) 10 spyral (mainly because they got a powerful link monster before all other archetypes)
These all were legendary decks but aren't you forgetting about Infernities? They won worlds at 2014. They had great xyz and syncho synergy, plus with their infamous arch, barrier, and launcher giving them great speed, combo, and negations. Also, even if you say why DRulers weren't #1. They still made the foundation for the dragon format with Hieratic rulers, lightsworn rulers, and mystic rulers even when they were essentially limited to 1.
i cant believe gb's got 4th. Honestly it is the most winningest deckin yugioh history from regionals to ycs combined. not to mention the fact that every format until recently it adapted to everything. yes teledad was up there but should be #2. personally played them 8yrs from when they came out topping too many tournaments to count.
Cap... Cookie cutter refers to how every deck looks exactly the same. When the card pool and playable stuff was far smaller, around 2004, cookie cutter chaos was the main deck. For nearly a year, every deck was the same.
I think Drulers is more consistent than pepe, sometimes with pepe you can brick also if you go 2nd you get destroyed by cards like twin twister but in drulers case going 2nd wasnt a problem unless the opponent had vanitys which blaster could get rid of
Spellbooks need to be waaay higher. This is a deck that has literally stood shoulders with the Rulers and yes, Rulers were probably the No.1 ever. No. 1. Dragon Rulers No. 2. Full-power PePe No. 3. Spellbooks No. 4. Tele-Dad No. 5. Nekroz No. 6. Yata Lock No. 7. Qliphort Towers Turbo No. 8. Six Samurai Gateway No. 9. Plant Synchros No. 10. Infernity (or Blackwings)
Were spellbooks really not as good as dragon rulers? somehow i can remember that they always had a slight advantage in the direct match-up...
Prophecy had way less tops than dragon rulers.
Prophecy were good but they only competed because they had a better ruler matchup than other decks, no way were they even close.
The final match at worlds was Books Vs Rulers. There u go.
Then call it most dominant decks of all time not best.
Perfect Circle
Love your channel and nice dual today loved the third dual specially
Infernity > Blackwings
Blackwings don't have 3 cards on the ban list. Blackwings cannot make a board that says you cannot play.
And Dark Strike Fighter 0_0
during the format when it was in its prime, it was really easy to otk with them, especially since they had dark strike fighter as well. the deck got hit twice (if I remember correctly), causing kalut, black whirlwind, and Gale to be put to 1, and dark strike fighter to get banned.
Yeah, but this is not only ordered by pure power, but also viability and competition in the format. Anyway, Infernitys are much better.
OCG multiple cross banlist tournaments has showed that Dragon Ruler is master race xD
I beat them with exodia stall and burn
@@allblazing1160 I doubt that you'd be doing this consistently.
That's a ftk and or otk. If he included them they'd win no matter what. Easily the most op deck ever.

I completely agree with your list Cap. At first I was sceptical because Performapals and Do rulers were forces to be reckoned with, but after hearing your explanation I was totally on board.
Thanks for the great video once again
Infernity won worlds, got lavalval chain banned. Soul charge, barrier, archfiend and launcher to 1. Not even an honorable mention, really.
Infernity won Worlds, with the World's BanList which is a hodgepodge of both the OCG and TCG banlists and what did he say in the beginning? TCG Only
Infernity never did anything relevant in the TCG, the cross ban list made them strong and then the TCG boned them.
+Lord_Derse incorrect Nekroz did. Not particularly a good reason mind you but they did it
Full power D-rulers were the scariest because they were the most explosive and could put damn near uncrackable boards first turn
I remember when everybody would summon draccosac 1st turn.
Wow, I really am new to the game. I've only been around to experience PePe's dominance, and hearing about all these old decks is like reading about ancestors to me.
Dragon rulers got 10 cards on the banlist,.. So I don't understand how it's not #1
he is comparing the best decks during their time not against other decks that were considered the best besides Pepe beats dragon rulers.
he is comparing the best decks during their time not against other decks that were considered the best besides Pepe beats dragon rulers.
+zeroman108 watch some of Glasgowygo's full power duels for d rulers vs pepe
Lordofthings1 watch litlum 2300 for that too
Pepe is better than rulers
put together a tele-dad cost about $ 2000
And how much of that were 3 x Dark Armed? Dont mind me, I didnt play during that format.
+Mattheuw1154 dad was at 2 during those days. He was like $200 each I think? I remember he was $300 during the Return-DaD days. He was at 3 then.
How much of the $2k was pre-errata Crush Card?
Houston Carter That's what I thought.
i remember pulling a DaD and not knowing what it was but everyone else was freaking out, sold it for 400 cash and like 100 worth of cards ( in australia there expensive asf )
dragon rulers have got all the boss monsters on the ban-list, r.i.p dragon rulers
Number 0: ghostrick
You really ought to redo this video again in 2024. I'd love to see it. It'd be really interesting to see how much things have really blown up in terms of power. I'd watch and drop a like for sure.
i feel like infernity should be number 9 or 10, at the very least an honorable mention , otherwise agree teledad, pepe and rulers are definitely the top 3 and id agree with your ordering

Lightsworns running JD were really powerful before limits and bans were set
Chaos, Rulers and Teledad are my favorites. Anything with dragons on it is a must have for me
Ah brings me good memories I enjoyed yugioh a lot and one of the decks I used were the fortune ladies but cheaters with unbeatable games ruin the fun.
Kudos MCG. I am from Columbus Ohio and an older YGO player (just turned 50). I started in 2003 and that summer went to Origins. Got it bad and became a judge. Dragon Rulers are the best deck of all times.
Imagine if they were at full force right now and they were allowed to use the new cards that have come out since 2013. They would squash everything.
if rulers had access to gospel of revival they simply would be unbeatable
definitely, i get ptsd just thinking about it
lol Yeah Dark matter dragon and stuff, ugh! Just dragon dumps for DAY~
Dragon Rulers have been powercrept
Not in the slightest. They're still extremely powerful.
Thanks for choosing my deck for #1. :)
For the next Yugioh Hierarchy vid, can you do top 10 skillful match-ups? An example can be like the Dragon Ruler mirror or Shaddoll Mirror
my decks were probably some of the most powerful when i played, since i build decks to beat the net decks.. like the cyber stein decks, gadgetss, darkworld [dark world would rekt most of these on the list] . ring of destruction+barrel behind the door. for the cyber stien decks, jinzo blood mooned most decks, chaos sorcerer exiled cards. and the one time i came back to play since no mtg even was happening ,i used dd warrior ladys to exile pendulums and samurai.
Based on the criteria, I think you did pretty good with the list 👌
I'm surprised that BAs weren't mentioned. They may not have defined a format, but they have remained for such a long time and managed to remain extremely relevant through all of it.
I love the scripting you do for these videos.
Very surprised not to see Yata-Lock on this list. There was a time when all core components of the deck were straight up banned in both formats and are still banned in the TCG (Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End, Yata Garasu, Sangan, Witch of the Black Forest, Painful Choice). damn, I guess a lot of yall forgot this is Cap Gs opinion. & at the time, Tele-Dad was was close to like a rack to complete it.
Wtf? *Yata Lock*, the O.G. god-tier deck, should've been number 1.
Now those were the days.
I feel as though full powered Qli's with 3 lose 1 turns and 3 skill drain and 3 scouts (and saqlifice) would probably be around 7-8 on this list.
Agreed
Jazzshadow2 I forgot about towers lol. yeah they definitely should've been on this list
i think this list is more of decks that were near tier 0 or at tier 0. qlis were tier 1 even with towers
I don't agree because even when full power short of lose one turn didn't really win that many big tournaments compared to the other power houses like Nekroz, Burning Abyss and Shaddolls.....I felt even with all the floodgatey cards it still fell short a majority of the time

Both keep special summoning, deck searching and both trying to combo each other with Kalut/shura, and Elphin.
I think top 3 was correct given the criteria, may have done some swaps with lightsworns, qliphorts, kozmo, frognarchs
goat control should be on here, that is a really fun format
Haven't watched this yet, but yata lock invented the forbidden list, lightsworns, dragon rulers are three which all come to mind
I would think a deck that has been relevant for over three years would be on this list. Yes I'm talking about Mermails.
RKOallday2012 BA didnt make the list and has been relevant for longer than mermails tho
Frog FTK format. Supposedly the reason why Effect Veiler was made.
I feel like burning abyss should be up here because they literally almost won back to back NAWCQ and the way they adjusted through the formats was insane I think that they probably in the top 5 decks of all time maybe even better than nekroz on the consistency level
It seems that yugioh has very limited interactions between players. Do you play around stuff, or in response to your opponet moves?
Teledad was my favorite format. You couldnt just win by herp derp summons and stuff. It took skill to play in that format, whether it was Lightsworn, Glad beast, LaDD, or Teledad, you had to know your matchups and mirror matches were insane to play. Miss that format.

Really surprised that I don't see Chaos-Yata at number 1. It was only the deck that is responsible for the ban list even existing.
I would like to see a duel between full power old monarchs vs new monarchs
I mostly agree with this list I personally wish Infernity was at least an honorable mention but that's probably just personal bias because I love the deck
I think lightsworn should have been on the list somewhere but otherwise pretty spot on. people who are saying "where is yata lock" that was one card so it fits under cookie cutter on number 6.
When I saw teledad as number one I was like this man know whats up
Such a stupid but awesome deck
Did anyone else think that MegaCapitalG would say "make money" at 4:30
I was out for a bit and actually have never seen a TeleDAD deck
Dark world's back in the day were scary.
2003 Chaos Control poopies on Cookie Cutter and Perfect Circle Monarchs.
Good list. I can agree with some of them.
I played in Tele-Dad format...I had Tele-Dad. I remember games where people would show each other their hands and both would agree one who had that game before they even played.. I had to take a 2 format break after Tele-dad lol.

with the new blackwing support I think they should at least be within range of plant synchro
I really don't understand how you don't have Kozmo or Burning Abyss in here, Ba has been a tier 1 deck for 2 years now
I feel like DDT, Airblade, and Return DAD (if memory serves) should have been in the list, at least in honorable mentions.
cap g needs to remake this list with zoodiac and spyrals happening
Chaos Control(1st half of 2004)
Where's the Yata deck fam? I remember my scum days playing that and it was by far the most busted thing I have seen
Update should consist of Zoodiacs and maybe something else. Idk how good Inzektors were back in the day when they were around, but i heard they were pretty broke.
best decks of all time in no particular order are
1 mermail (have adapted to multiple metas and been competitive)
2 dragon rulers (one of the greatest and most powerful decks of all time)
3 nekroz (djinn lock, everything searchable, trish etc was just op)
4 burning abyss (have adapted to many metas and when new link comes will be relevant again)
5 zoodiacs (1 card xyz was op for the meta)
6 pepe (needed an emergency ban list no more needs to be said)
7 infernity (adapts to every meta has been around for years and its hit so hard on the ban list you'd swear mike Tyson did the hitting)
8 monarchs (seems to adapt to every meta. has had more variations than I can count)
9 teledad (for how good it was at the time)
10 spyral (mainly because they got a powerful link monster before all other archetypes)
I wonder how this list would change with the newer decks around like spyral, pendulum magicians and zoodiac
I wonder how this list would change with the link-era decks around nowadays
You should do a top 10 list of decks that need a buff. You can probably guess which deck I'm thinking about that needs a massive buff.
The Agents
Dinomist
Igknights
Six Samurai
Majespecters
Crystal Beast
Legendary Fisherman
Cold Lightning Those would go well with Gladiator Beasts for decks that need upgrades.
Neos and Neo-Spacians? A deck that was always sadly useless even in its own era?
cloudians?
Eh, I'd say D-rulers, Infernity, Yata-lock and Elma-recycling are the best ones.
Aside from Batterymen, ofc
What's the explanation behind the opening? The noise reminds me of a cantina...
I'd say Chaos had it pretty good back in the days.
I think Goat Control should have been easily taken in place of Cookie Cutter.
I swear you make a list like this already
Cap... Cookie cutter refers to how every deck looks exactly the same. When the card pool and playable stuff was far smaller, around 2004, cookie cutter chaos was the main deck. For nearly a year, every deck was the same.
I think perform pals are overpowered and won the European championship and has so much consistently
hmm, I think the title of the "Strongest Archetype" goes to Kozmos.
Dragon Rulers or TeleDAD I bet is going to be Number 1.
surprised Dino rabbit wasent on this
I think Drulers is more consistent than pepe, sometimes with pepe you can brick also if you go 2nd you get destroyed by cards like twin twister but in drulers case going 2nd wasnt a problem unless the opponent had vanitys which blaster could get rid of
Good list, my only change would be PePe to 1 dad to 2. that deck was way too strong.
Dragons were probably more powerful than both. But PePe was still easily 2
Macloche deck is the deck that I find fun
You need to update this list and put Zoodiac Beast.
Rip damage juggler I miss you I love performage cards
hmmm NECk-criess you say........sounds like a good deck. Swift shoutout to Ninja Dinosaurs = ]
people who dont agree hat teledad should be number one havent played yugioh long enough to understand that it was best of its time.
1) Dracopal
2) Shaddoll
3) Dragon Ruler
4) Spellbook
5) Nekroz
6) Tele-DAD
7) Kozmo
8) Tellarknight
9) Burning Abyss
10) Chaos/Yata lock
Spellbooks need to be waaay higher. This is a deck that has literally stood shoulders with the Rulers and yes, Rulers were probably the No.1 ever.
No. 1. Dragon Rulers
No. 2. Full-power PePe
No. 3. Spellbooks
No. 4. Tele-Dad
No. 5. Nekroz
No. 6. Yata Lock
No. 7. Qliphort Towers Turbo
No. 8. Six Samurai Gateway
No. 9. Plant Synchros
No. 10. Infernity (or Blackwings)
Ghostricks!!!! Should be somewhere on the list
why you didn't put yata lock or turbo towers on your list?
