You’re an excellent teacher, Katy! You explain things so well, and as a beginner, I really appreciate it!
My teen and pre-teen kids love you, Katy! Thank you so much for all of your tutorials!! Their fiddle teacher was no longer able to offer classes due to illness, but your videos have allowed them to keep learning, and in fact pursue their favorite kinds of songs. My sons have taught themselves from several of your tutorials and now are teaching their younger sisters with your tutorials. They all spend time just watching your music videos for fun. My 12 year old daughter says that you are really fun and playful and nice and she loves how you wears fun colors and flowers. :)
Ive just picked up my violin after over 5 years of not playing and your way of teaching is so inspiring. It feels like a friend encouraging me and breaking it down for me. Thank you so much
How you getting on with your Morrisons jig? I’ve just about got 'De'il among the Tailors' down so this ones next. 😃 🎻
Hi Katy, I just wanted to say Thank You - for all your tutorials.
The one on Tam Lin saved me when I was totally fed up with a Schubert quartet.
By now they have become part of my daily routine as a way to unwind.
The structure of your lessons is great. By breaking it down into plain melody, ornamentation and slow run through players of all level can profit- and succeed from it.
Keep posting, Cheers Lumi
+Lumi Ketonen Thank you, Lumi! I'm glad that my tutorials help! =) I can relate to feeling frustrated with difficult music... A piece starts off great until I turn to a page that's so hard!! It can feel really defeating... =/ I really like fiddle music because it's a lot more laid back and social. I wish you all the best with your Schubert quartet! =) I love a lot of Schubert's compositions - they are so pretty! ^_^
Best tutorial I could find for this song, you've helped me so much! Can't wait to see more of your videos :)
Thank you Katy, another great tune I have learnt to play from you, love your teaching style, it is very generous of you to make these lessons free.
Hi Katy and thanks for all your tutorials. You are one of the reason I began fiddle. Just 6 months I began this instrument and I attack this one few days ago (with "your" sheet). One day I will have the level for Tiam Lin, this one and others for playing them in an Irish pub ! You tutorials are really really good (even if I have no problem whith sheet). But I have a lot of work in front of me.... So, thanks again from a french fiddle beginner and please don't stop !
this is great, thank you Katy. i have not seen a violin tutorial like this before. this is like taking a music lesson. you explain it so well, and slowly, for us beginners so we can follow. gathering from the comments below, you have a number of tutorials, i will be sure to look them up. please do keep up the instruction. the 'turns', slides, and flicks are awesome ! now the light goes on....
Katy, I absolutely LOVE the way you do this and break it up! Thanks much for the tutorial and I look forward to more of them!!! You abso-frikkin-lutely ROCK!!!!
Thank you! =) I'm glad that this has helped! : D I have a lot more planned! ^_^

+x You're welcome! I hope you have fun learning this tune! : D It's a lot of fun! ^_^ Happy Fiddling~! =)
I had to learn this for a production I was in back in the spring. the way I learned it was slightly different than this, the A part anyway and it's a lot more difficult for me to play, even today I don't feel like I can play the song well despite knowing it. I can't wait to try this version and see if I pick up on it easier. I caught on to Catharses quickly and I'm in the process of doing Tam Lin. Your tutorials are really well done.
First: your attitude is freaking lovely. I love the it. Second: wonderful playing you are awesome. Third: thanks so much for the video I just learned and perfected this song in less than an hour watching this. 💖 You're a great teacher!

Thats a fun one. I never took a lesson before but as a self taught thats exactly my difficulty level. Thanks!
Brilliant Katy thanks a lot for going to the trouble of doing this!
+Katy Adelson I don't have a Fiddle so I'm learning in my mother's mandolin. Thank you so much for this tutorial, I really love it!!!!
Greetings from Mexico city! We love folk metal and stuff like that here too! :)
Great Katy!!
Big fan from brazil here, great job, i love it
I love your tutorials!!
+Gojirella Yay! Thank you! =)
love it! subscribed!
Thanks soo much for this. Really appreciate it.☺
+Row N You're welcome! I hope you have fun learning Morrison's! =)
You play absolutely beautifully and I love all of your videos, however, a quick word of note, this being a celtic tune, I would consider adding a roll on the opening E and B notes as it really brings out the rhythm of the tune. Mix this in with some slurs and grace notes and the tune will come to life. It just feels like a "classical" approach to this tune.
Thank you Katie!!!
Wow! You seem like such an amazing and happy person!
I don't play the violin but I used your video to learn this tune on irish bouzouki. Loved to watch and you have one more subscriber after this! :)
Thank you for your nice comment and for subscribing! =) I love the Irish bouzouki!! I'm happy that his video helped you learn the tune! ^_^
It's my pleasure! Eagerly waiting for new video's :)
Thanks for the tutorial. Greetings from the UK
Thank you for watching! =) I hope you have fun practicing. ^_^
thank youuuu
Thank you for watching! =) I hope the tutorial helped! ^_^
You are SO AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!
I would like to add , that I've rarely seen a wild horse or, in my part of the country, a rich mountain . But I have once in a while seen a "Maid Behind a Bar."
+Doug Nickerson I don't think I've ever seen a wild horse, either... I guess there was the gold rush in Colorado, so we did have a few "rich mountains" lol... I wonder where some of these titles come from!? ("Squirrel Heads and Garvy" is one crazy tune title example... lol!)
+Katy Adelson thanks as always 4 your Interesting reply. Different names @ a session . I suppose the Important thing is what a tune sounds like & can people communicate about the tunes at all . A confusing example is "Paddy on the Turnpike ," i've heard played the version in Gm much as you play it . Others have a tune In G major, same name , with the similarity that it goes from a G harmony to an F and back. An Oak publications book refers to the famous 'Avalanche' by Vassar Clements as his variations on "Paddy on the Turnpike, " being in G major and closer to the second tune. so if you looked for the tune & found the Gm Irish version you could suffer some momentary confusion , but mostly this would be s.t. you could overcome with listening and taking a deep breath or two ) but if one looks for certainty in the naming of tunes well it seems a long row to hoe
i can t help dancing its so beautiful
Finally someone explains this! I've been trying to figure it out by ear! Could you do one on Captain O'Kane?
very nice !!
+Akantor Drummer Thank you -- I hope it helps you learn the tune! =)
can't wait for the sheet!
+Gergely Nagy Hello! I've finally written out and posted the sheet music for the version of Morrison's that I made a video on last summer. It has the regular tune version that I taught in this video, + all the extra variations that I came up with:
www.katyadelson.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/MorrisonsJig_Vln.pdf
I hope it is helpful! =)
+Katy Adelson Thank you! I already memorized it by hearing, but the sheet will still be useful, and my violin tutor asked for it too :)

I love your playin' 'n' ur videos . having said that , theres always a catch ) I was a thinkin' some beginners may not know a jig is in six , six eight . Mayb 'splain that , as Lucille Ball used to say . .
+Doug Nickerson Thank you, Doug! I realized that as I was listening back to the video.. =/ I usually mention the key and time signature, but I forgot to in this video! =S I've been debating about whether or not I should add an annotation explaining it... I already have a lot of annotations on the video... =/
I just saw your eyes and I thumb up immediately 💖
merci beaucoup Katy Adelson
Thank you 😊😊😊😊😊
You're welcome! I hope it helps! =)
Fine, summer is here, I have time, so why not try to learn all your cool tutorials? 😳
Is there any chance we could get the bowing for this tune? I really like this version of it!
Hi Katy ^^ any chance you could take some time and do a tutorial for the longer version of this Jig? The 2+ minutes one you play in your other video. Would greatly appreciate it!
+Jack Bauer Hi Jack! I could make a tutorial video over all of the variations that I made from my other video of Morrison's. Since there are several variations in the music video, I might need to split the video into different variation parts because the buttons won't all fit on the left side of the screen... But I think it would be a fun video to make! =) Thank you for your suggestion! I'll try to work on it sometime soon! : D
could you do a video on your bow grip? I see your pinky floating in a lot of your interpretations and I'm curious
hi katy, your video is really great. it's really helpful to play along with your video.
May you provide detailed sheet music of jigs? There is some sheets available on net but that's not detailed enough.i am struck with rhythm what makes jigs music extremely elegant =)
Here's a fun detective story : I learned Stoney Point ,or Stony Point , from a book, "Appalachian fiddle." Many people play it differently , I discover a video "Wild Horses of Stoney point," which is similar. Well! If you look in a book called "the Phillips Collection," for Wild Horses, you find three tunes: "Wild Horses (A)", "Wild Horses (B)," & "Wild Horses (C)" a.k.a. : "Stoney Point" & "Pig Town Fling" -(of course) :) the book goes on to say "see the related: "Rich Mountain." If you liik at Rich Mountain, it is a tune very simukar to what Ian Walsh plays , which he calls what ? "Stoney Point"
+Doug Nickerson Hi Doug! That's really interesting what you have discovered about the tune titles! It's quite a wide variation of name - Stoney point, to Wild Horses, to Rich Mountain! I think there is a lot of mix-up between tune titles and the actual tune, especially when they sound similar. I think the title and tune morphs a lot especially since a lot of them are played from memory and by ear. Sometimes I wonder if I'm posting the tune under a wrong title! =S Many times I've heard a tune in a jam, but knew it by a completely different name....or I'll recognize the melody, but when I ask for the tune's name, the group sometimes says a title I've never heard of before.. It's neat how much a tune can change over time and by region! Sometimes I wonder how some of the older tunes sounded 200 years ago. I wonder if the tunes sounded completely different, or if they still resemble each other. =)
Interesting!!! I will have to look at these tunes!!
NICE
+milky oxide Thank you! =)
Dear and cool Kathy,
From where or what recording did you learn this version?
Not Bothy Band right?
Luv the way you teach.
Pretty cool and efficiant 😉
Take care x
thank you so much for this. I love the camera angle. But I wished my bow arm could keep up the pace with my violin hand. I just can't get it right. D=
Gracias, hermosa. Por enseñarme.
Yeah you do a good job, if I may suggest if you could put tapes on it would help with following it from a visual perspective too, thanks.
Hi, I'd really like to know how you bow this song. Your tempo is really fast, so you can't be playing single strokes for each note right? Do you play three notes per stroke?
For the eighth notes, I usually do 3 separate and 3 slurred. Sometimes I change it up and slur both groups of 3 eighth notes. More and more I've been adding in stranger bowings where I'll do 4 separate and 3 slurred. This puts the next up-bow on an awkward note, but adds an interesting texture to the tune. ^_^
Where can I find the music sheet? I really want it! ^^ Thanks so much Katy for this awesome tutorial! I loved it!!
