    Cabbage, crumbs, scraps....whatever we call them, this is a fabulous idea for using them! I'm new to sewing so don't have much of a crumb stash, but I will start saving every scrap to make a quilt like this! What a fantastic and beautiful use of even the smallest bit of fabric! So glad I came across this!

    Thanks for this. I have saved lots of scraps and sometimes I just feel the need to sit down and sew something easy with no particular project in mind. This is the perfect pastime to do as a refresher between more challenging projects. I love how you've sorted into colour groups. That makes the final fabrics so pretty.

      Not sure if you have left this comment on the right channel Sue. We don't sell fabric in our store.

    I am new to sewing and love collecting the scraps. The more videos I watch, the more I believe some of my frustrations with sewing may be due to the age of my machine - a ‘66 singer. In this video I loved how quick it was for you to sew two pieces together and then realized you don’t have to hold the two bits of thread at the beginning. What did the buttons you pressed at the end do?

      @alandacraft  Před 5 lety

      I have a really old machine that I still use. One thing you can do before starting to sew your scraps together is to take a small piece of fabric and sew on that before feeding in your fabric. This stops the birdnesting that can sometimes occur when you start to sew.

    Had to laugh cuz you were cutting the crumbs into crumbs😂. But i love your technique of small onto a strip. Good video ❤

    I love the look of your crumb quilts because of how you group your colors! Gives it good coordination and a restful sense of rhythm amongst the chaos.
    This may sound dumb, but I really want to make something like this but I'm a new sewer and don't have any scraps yet. It would seem odd to cut up large yardage into random crumbs, wouldn't it? Do you know any tips for starting from large pieces and working them down into crumbs... other than just throwing them into a chipper/shredder, I mean?

    • @alandacraft
      @alandacraft  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you for your lovely comment Marialla. lol, a chipper is definately out of the question. You could always buy an eight of a yard of fabric and cut them into strips to make a start. Or you could start working on some smaller projects and start building up your fabric stash. We have quite a few small projects on the website. www.alandacraft.com/category/sewing-projects/quick-projects/

      Maybe you can pick up a bag of fabric scraps from a sewing store or op shop. Crumb quilting is a lot of fun and easy to do. You are going to love it Dorothy.

    Also I have lots of scrapes (crumbs), I want to sew them together to fairly large pieces, then cut aprons for my Christmas gifts this year to my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. All sizes!! The guys as well as the girls, they all love to cook!!

    This was a great video, I am thinking of using it to make a white wedding dress quilt with three fabrics to go with it. I am not sure if I want to do it in blocks or build the whole quilt with it!!

    I know you mentioned not ironing first, but when would you press the seams and does it matter which direction you press them? I definitely want to try my hand at this!

    • @alandacraft
      @alandacraft  Před 4 lety

      It really doesn't matter when you press the piece Cheri. I tend to do it as the piece grows and the direction doesn't really matter either. Have fun with it, I love watching the fabric come together. www.alandacraft.com/2017/09/08/crumb-quilt-technique-tutorial/
