- The SDF-1 Macross is a Strong-Attack-Type Fortress Ship (要塞艦・強攻型 Yōsai-kan Kyōkō-gata), outfitted with the CVS-101 Prometheus and SLV-111 Daedalus as arms. It is also capable of housing a massive city within its hulls.

SDF1 or Macross is still ahead of its time after all these years . This series and the star blazer series introduce me to amine in the 80s to me they were the pioneers of new story telling😊.
Same here, along with Starblazers. Both shows left me with an enduring love of Anime.
And to think that the SDF-1's last line of defense are three petite women using trackballs to defend like they are playing Missile Command.

I still can't believe that I woke up at 555 am on a Saturday turned on the TV and flipped through 3 channels of cartoons and landed on the first episode of robotech just as it started. I was in awe of the speed and detail of it all. Much better than that Gundam knockoff.

@@rachelbrinkley3240 Had to look it up to confirm, yeah, Gundam came well before a thing Robotech or Macross related. If anything the Robotech series is the knockoff, but Robotech and Gundam are substantially different.
The problem with the SDF-1 is the scale. At times, in the anime, it is at least, 15-30 miles in length. The interior of the city, in the belly of ship, is literally, at least 10-20 square miles. If a live action film was ever made, the SDF-1 would certainty be much, much more massively bigger.
I'll tell you what. If millions of alien ships from a civilization breed for war were chasing me, there is no other ship I would want to live in. If Global was at the command, it would be all good.
Really?! Many channels, like HalfScreen, that does size comparison has it at about 3/4 mile long. Though what you makes more sense. Maybe you should leave comment about its true size, citing the city inside it as a reason, as to why their size doesn’t work. Just look up “spaceship size comparison” or “mech size comparison.”

So many panels! Reminds me of the heydays of space combat games like Freelancer where ships have so much panels in their 3D models. I planned to make my own models of these spacecrafts for my 3D printing hobby but I need to learn to make those panels.
I love it! Totally awesome! I keep hoping someone will make a live-action adaptation of the entire Robotech saga someday before I die and I'm already old wich sucks.
Based on the novelisations rather than the show I hope.
The motivations are way better and the story better linked in those.
With the current state of anime to live action, I think we're better off leaving it as is.
No. No sane person alive would make anything Robotech.

@@namkha209 Robotech has a few advantages over Macross. First being a lot less lore. Less lore makes it easier to adapt. The second is familiarity. Macross has not had the same level of exposure as Robotech has.
The biggest draw back to Robotech has been Carl Macek and his legacy that has doomed Robotech. I am a fan of both and Robotech has the better chance with American audiences and even audiences outside the US as not a lot of them got Macross but Robotech. That said Macross had the ability to meet international marketing outside of that Harmony Gold would not allow in the US and other markets they controlled.
Still in the end, I don't want a live action of either anymore. Netflix, Amazon, and Hollywood overall have squandered that opportunity and ruined things.
@namkha209 I hate to say it, but you're wrong. The problem is that GenX had only Robotech. We didn't know Macross other than Macross City. Even Millenials grew up with GenX talking about Robotech and not Macross. Yes, there were a privileged few that found or knew about Macross, but word didn't spread like it does today. Millenials did figure out the correlation once the net sprung up in the 90s, but it still didn't spread so fast back then as it does today. Not all Millenials hate Robotech. So Robotech still has abuilt in fanbase that Macross does not even with newer younger audiences who, for the most part, hate or don't care mecha anime. The Gundam ssries has done things like SD and Build to get younger viewers interested by making it Gundam Pokémon to sell Gunpla.
Macross has only recently been released in the US, and several countries enmass due to the legal standing of Harmony Gold and their claims.
It's a far more nuanced problem since GenZ and Alpha lower birthrates as well. Meaning for the first time in a long while, there are more older folks like GenX than their are of GenZ and Alpha. Meaning right now, Robotech has the chance to be live action in an even race with Macross.
Let's see this go farther. The great big beautiful beast, actually had a head in n the shows..even very crudely humanoid.

アニメ本編では、この数倍の時間かけて変形してたよ。

I love that the hands are two ships they salvaged that was teleported along with SDF1 to the far side of the solar system.

I have a DVD Copy of that Macross Movie! Its actually quite good! Some great music as well! Opening & Closing themes by Mika Kaneko! "Riding in your Valkerie" is a great song featured in the movie!

マクロス本体はともかく海上艦船だったプロメテウスとダイダロスの艦内に重力制御機構は入ってるのかねぇ...
搭載してるデストロイドの固定必須、特にモンスターが艦内を転がりまくるとか怖いこわい★
その辺初期は想定上考えてなかったからプロメテウスとダイダロスをくつっけたけど、よりリアルを増すために劇場版はアームドに変えたんだと思う。ただアームドにも重力制御装置付いていないから重力圏内では逆にアームド内が大変になりそう宇宙用なので、逆にプロメテウス・ダイダロスは嵐の中とかも想定しているので転げ回らない様には設備は整っていそうなので固定する分には問題なさそう。逆に宇宙では移動する時が大変だと思う。
ダイダロスとプロメテウスには人工重力発生装置はありません。デストロイドは足裏の爪というかフックというか、そんなんで床を掴むように歩いているんでしょう、多分。
Ok, this was in-freakin'-credible! If they are actually remaking the series using this as an example, put me on the mailing list! Just gotta say this though: the SDF-1 goes to fire its' main gun and all the veritech pilots are TOAST!

Flashback to the morning cartoons on PBS... Best battle scenes there ever were back then... What was the version after these that had the motorcycles and proto-matter?
Where's the Daedalus submersible ship for the right forearm? Those sections of the ship are modular in concept and you could configure the SDF with two Prometheus carriers versus the Prometheus/Daedalus combination from the Robotech anime. I can't recall what the SDF was configured like in the Macross remake film, Do You Remember Love? Overall, a well-crafted animation of the ship in flight. I like the sound FX as well. 🚀🪐
DYRL used Armor 01 and 10 as the arms, if memory serves....

It's a little disorienting at 0:34 when everything appears to flip horizontally -- the SDF-1 is travelling right to left, then suddenly it's facing right just as it's transforming. Panning into it would help the visual continuity a lot.

You got the scale wrong. Those jets at the end should be microscopic compared to the starship that housed them and a city.
I think it's a bit small, SDF1 was size of a rather large city. Comparing it to those Jets.. doesn't appear that big

そりゃそうだ!プロメテウスは急場凌ぎに繋いだ艦で本来はARMEDだから発進方法が異なる(詳しくは愛・おぼえていますか参照)

You got the scale wrong compared to the size of the fighter jets the single seat fighter jets should be a lot smaller by almost 50% to match the size of the super battleship. You have to remember this battleship literally has a city inside of it a city large enough to hold over 50,000 people and if you go by the scale of your fighter jets the battleship would only be able to hold barely 5000 and I wouldn’t call it a city I call it a town
初代マクロスはフォールド事故の影響で主砲のパーツを失った為変形しないと主砲が撃てなくなったのはわかるけどその後に建造されたマクロスシリーズに主砲を使用する歳わざわざ変形させる必要があったのだろうか？
マクロス7やマクロスFの戦闘ブロック艦は、変形することで主砲を手持ち兵器にできて、照準合わせや照準変更に柔軟性が出せるようになっています。
マクロスクォーターやマクロスエリシオンも同じ方式です。
良く出来てるとは思うけどディティールが一様過ぎてスケール感が無いし、1200m級のトランスフォーメーションにしては動きが軽すぎる。故に迫力が全然足りないし、マクロスをワザワザCGで作成した甲斐がない。正直1mの模型が変形しましたって印象。
So your saying that it doesn't have enough weight to it. Or it's moving to fast for the weight it's supposed to have.
Love the animation but sorry don't like the transformer sounds. Macross was different in the 80's. Love your work

この頃おもうけど、地球人類は、宇宙惑星間の中で、まだ、技術レベルがかなり低いようなので、もうこのくらいの戦艦空母はできる時代まで来ても、おかしくない。

They worked that out ahead of time, and had safe spaces and armored bunkers for the population with a 3 minute warning siren. Iirc. I can't remember if anyone died to that but Rick did have that close call.

カメラアングルが独特すぎて、「マクロスのトランスフォーメーションてこんなんだったっけ？」というのが感想。
ちなみに、マクロスの肩と胸部は艦体の主要な主軸かどうか、よくわからないんだが、胸部と大腿部の間は、たしかに伸びるんだよね。
したがって、要塞艦より強攻型のほうが、全体的にデカく見える。
ところで現実には、マクロス艦を実現するのはムリかな。何しろ、空母を腕として作動させるような全長１２００メートルの戦艦となると、馬力も超弩級。諸国家が国家予算全部費やしても、一部さえ製作できないだろうなあ😅
河森正治氏なら、建造費はわかるか😅
