Use dental floss under the screen to get through the glue so you are not prying up on the LCD to limit the risk of damaging your lcd.

If you have cracks on the screen, it is better to apply the duct tape on the screen before taking it off, then you don't need to worry about scattering the glass around.
    Thanks for posting this video!

good idea to TEST digitzer and LCD before you close it.

Thanks for the video. Most informative I found and the suction cup method is, without a doubt, the best way to get the removal started. Everyone else recommended a razor blade which will scratch the finish if you're not EXTREMELY careful. Appreciate all the time you put into this.

Suction cup can be found on the soap holder in the bathroom,
alternatively there is one shipped with the iPad Mini digitizer sold by LaptopScreen

Thanks for your great video. With your help I successfully replaced the flickering LCD on my daughter's Ipad mini. I replaced the screen at the same time because I was expecting to break it when removing it. Very pleased that I managed to remove without damaging the screen so I now have a spare one.
By the way I used the suction pad from my Go pro suction cup mount. It is so powerful I could have pulled the screen off without the use of a blade.
For those of you who are asking about how much heat to use, the glue becomes soft when it is a bit higher than body temperature. Keep that heat gun on there for too long and you may well destroy the other components inside, particularly the lithium battery!

Thanks for the video. Wish I had seen this one before fixing my 1st mini--really easy to crack and/or overeat/discolor the LCD screen if you are not careful loosening the glue. This method is one of the better for getting digitizer safely separated.

Liked your video.I have a blank screen created by moisture, not directly dropped in water. It gradually spread and finally went dark. I can hear a beep when connecting the power cable, but no other sights or sounds. Screen looks good. I slightly opened and tried to dry it out with some hair blower heat. I have new screen and digitizer but am beginning to feel the problem is probably the lcd. I can and have backed it up on my mac. Questions: 1. does it sound like the lcd? 2. Will I also need to replace the screen? 3. How can I tell if it is powered on or off before I start?

Congratulations on your newly found fortune :)
First thing is to make sure the iPad is charged, it should display signs of life when the charger is connected.
If that doesn't help, then full tear down and careful inspection of ALL possible damage can net you some results.
Overall we'd rate such a project as "If you got nothing better to do" :)

Hi, before ios 7 comes out, I want to be replace my ipad mini. Replacing an entirely new ipad sounds great, but its also really expensive. Then I found this video, and realized it is a lot cheaper, but it definitely looks risky. Incase i ever do think about doing this, can you give me any advice of doing this right so I won't risk breaking my ipad. How often do you think people watch this and get it right without breaking their devices without experience of practicing these steps?

LaptopScreen doesn't provide mail-in repairs yet.
However iPad Mini, as seen above, is not the most difficult repair imaginable, we'd rate the difficulty (on a professional scale) as 5/10: using appropriate tools and plenty of patience, a first time repairer should complete the job in under an hour.
As well we now sell direct-drop-in iPad Mini parts (no soldering required)

But ive never had an issue with any iphone or ipad ive fixed where disconnecting the battery last (on accident) . The thing is if there is dust in those connectors, or anything, it can make a connection fail (which has happened for me on my 5s, the screen would turn in but the digitizer cable although in wouldnt work b/c of dust

    • @Laptopscreen
      @Laptopscreen  Před 7 lety +2

Yes, you would have to perform all the steps shown in the video. You would need to disconnect the digitizer in order to remove it and reconnect the new digitizer to make it work. The digitizer's connector is on the logic board, under the LCD and the EM shield, that is why you would need to remove the LCD and the EM shield to gain access to the digitizer's connector.
Watch the video carefully to understand the answer to your question.
