      Huge fan here, but his fashion sense was the epitome of cool during the 80's and early 90's.... then he looked like a parody of himself... till "This is It". That lady who worked as his stylist on "Thisisit" did an awesome job.... she basically did what he should've done 15 years before. I guess with all the problems he had, clothes weren't his priority.

    Michael Jackson was different before he even had money. My sister and I were at his house in Gary, Indiana in the summer of 1964. He was 6 years old and talking about achieving seemingly impossible things. He then pulls a ship in a bottle from the shadow box on the wall and said: Like this ship in a bottle it seems impossible, but yet here it is. I was 5 years old and knew he was different, I also got scolding by one of the brothers for strumming their guitar. LOL... those were some mature and intelligent kids. Also, the kids at his house were "Make a Wish' Foundation kids.

On top of that the "Make A Wish Foundation Kids" part is also bullshit because it wasn't even a thing back in the 60s because the Make A Wish Foundation didn't even start until April of 1980! I feel bad for anyone that actually falls for this bullshit story 😂😂😂😂

      I also remember how all us kids would get ice cream off the truck and sit in front of their house and listen to them practice. There wasn't any singing at that time, just all instruments. On the 4th of July, we were in front of my cousins house and all the neighborhood kids were running past with thier boxes of fireworks. As I wondered what was happening, my cousin yelled for us to follow. So we grab our fireworks and ran with the other kids. They stopped at a window of Jackson's house and all the Jackson kids were in the house watching us through the window. I remember wondering why they weren't coming outside to join us. They watched until all the fireworks were gone. Years later, I learned the Jackson were Jehovah's witnesses and they didn't celebrate holidays.

      Dressing up for a performance is one thing. Wearing a ridiculous suit like that on stage is likely just there for stage presence and so that folks in the back can see him better.
      MJ wore his stage costumes as real clothes.
      There's a difference.

    • @RaiceGeriko
      @RaiceGeriko Před 8 lety

      ***** Look... no one cares what MJ wore. That doesn't mean it wasn't weird. MJ was weird. That doesn't make him a bad person - it just means he was weird.
      Just because you don't believe in "normal" doesn't mean it doesn't exist. "Normal" is a word which describes a standard expectation from the majority. That exists.

    • @RaiceGeriko
      @RaiceGeriko Před 8 lety +1

      *****
      That can go both ways, and is pretty much a juvenile response. Just because you have been trained to believe there is no "normal" doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
      And besides that, it's not a matter of "training", even though your developed opinion on this matter is.
      It's simple logical reasoning that anyone can do, and I would argue that they do it automatically as part of a survival trait.
      Most people wear clothing that is functional for their current life activity. Normality is born out of functionality. Jeans and a T-Shirt for instance are the most normal articles of clothing to wear, because they're pretty much functional in any situation besides a formal gathering. Most activities can be done in this sort of attire.
      A wetsuit is normal for the function of some kind of activity that involves swimming and/or water. Formal wear is functional for formal situations. Just wearing underwear is normal for bedtime - it is NOT normal, and is also downright unacceptable in public.
      The Costumes MJ wore were functional for his stage performances. His appropriation of those clothes for his every day life is not a normal functionality in most people's life. It would be normal in his, perhaps, since he was on stage, even when he wasn't on stage - or at least he felt that way. But regardless, it wasn't normal for others.
      This is how abnormal (weird) opinions are developed.
      Your opinion is either functionally useful... or it isn't. If you gather a large portion of functionally useless opinions or behaviors... then most people will presume you're weird. Because you are. I'm sorry to be the person to break it to you... but that's just how it is. That doesn't mean you have to care. But it also doesn't mean that they're wrong for thinking it, and it doesn't make them "brainwashed", it doesn't make them evil or bigots, or any of these other social descriptors you've been "trained" to call them.
      "Normal" is subjective. But when the majority of people have the same subjective opinion - that statistic is objective which means that "normal" is objectively real. To believe in the myth that that objective reality doesn't exist is mainly why people like you and me are often at odds over petty shit.
      Like I said. No one cares what MJ wore. No one cares that you think his individual expression was beautiful. That doesn't make his costumes any less weird to the majority of folks who share my subjective opinion. And that's the truth.
      Your subjective opinion is no more special or correct than anyone else's outside of the fact that less people probably agree with you. And even if more people did agree with you... all you have done is create another "norm."
      Welcome to the real world, man.

    • @RaiceGeriko
      @RaiceGeriko Před 8 lety

      *****
      "Actually I wasn't trained to believe in "abnormal" ways, I was trained according to the "normal" stance, but I learned that the normal stance doesn't really exist,"
      Learning IS training. Or does that not exist in your world either?
      I say something about functional clothing, and you talk about fashion... which is actually art... which is a discipline of personal, individual expression... which is weird by default.
      Good art creates new norms. And that's because good art serves a purpose - it has a function.
      Bad art creates more weird. And that's because it serves no purpose - it has no function. Unless you're a cheerleader for bad art... which I would bet you are.
      You've basically proven my point.
      Your problem is that you are the one placing value on this word "weird" like it's some sort of derogatory term - not me. "Weird" as I am using it, is a clinical term that denotes an object existing outside of normalized expectations as prescribed by a majority, subjective poll.
      It's not - lots of people like things because they are normal.
      It's - things are normal because lots of people like them.
      Normal isn't created until the majority agree. Man didn't create it to control other men. Men saw the same thing, and the majority found it agreeable.
      Out of 100 people, 80% think the sky is blue.
      20% think the sky is green.
      The blue thinkers think the green thinkers are weird.
      And they are.
      If you reverse that - then you have the same scenario.
      Your entire perspective on this is based in conflict and self absorption. I'm talking about a petty topic as objectively as I can, and you're still insisting that your interpretation of reality is correct.
      I happen to disagree... because I think you're wrong. And I think that the way I've explained it - plenty of others can understand what I am talking about. And I would wager that by the end of this, you'll just be another CZcams weirdo defending his dysfunction perspectives on useless topics.
      Also - you're full of nonsense:
      "So with that being said, I don't believe man can create "norm". "
      ""Normal" is a construct created by man, as a way to institutionalise ways as means to control others or create mediums by means to judge one another base done cultures standards."
      HO-LY SHIT! It would take some inhumane, harsh, serious training orchestrated by some cleverly insane, yet altogether, retarded authoritarians, hell bent on confusing the shit out of morons who "just don't get it" to believe in hypocritical, double standard, wish-washy bullshit like that. You can't even keep your story straight.
      Which is why no one can agree with you.
      Which is why you're weird.
      And the worst part of all... you seem to want to be. You find comfort in it - like an abused, battered housewife who doesn't know how to exist outside of the marital conflict, so she instigates it.
      That's normal behavior for the abused. And it's written all over you, pal.
      I don't want to be weird. Not because I have a need to conform to society's standards... but because it just makes so much damn sense, a child could understand it. No learning or indoctrination necessary.
      I'm sorry... your social theories are void of all knowledge and are completely, functionally useless.
      And look - I'm only being a dick about this, because otherwise, you would think I am going to tolerate that non-sense from you.

    • @JRCGuitarist
      @JRCGuitarist Před 7 lety +2

      Actually, the problem with people calling others weird is the misuse. Being "weird" is natural. It's called individuality. No one person is the same, regardless of general opinion. Being "weird" is a compliment. But it is also misused, overused, and doesn't really exist when you look at reality. It's just a label, without much of any functionality since we are naturally different even in our lives. If "normal" existed, then the idea would be that it's "normal" to be "weird". Since everyone is "weird"
      Michael Jackson was not weird in how he dressed. People need to research his activities before judging him. He was an entertainer, and considering the church function was public, his style of dress was functional according to your argument.
      I reality no one ever agreed on what was functional. That's how the real world works, There's not universal standard of social conduct. Even the majority is "weird". Truth is, this particular topic is debated by the most intellectual beings in our society, and many consider "normal" to be a social construct. It's just a theory, and is not definite. So here's reality, if society looked at every aspect of your life, you would rightfully be classified as "weird" like everyone else. There's no way of escaping it. That's what you are. While some people who are pro Immanuel Kant would argue that man's social behaviour is backed by functionality, it has been long proven Kant was false, man's functional behaviour is rooted in a sense of belonging and loyal, and doesn't have to have logic. Hence, guys walking around with their pants sagging. Normal within social construct doesn't exist since in actuality, even by majority, each individual deviates from those constructs throughout their life. Making everyone "weird" (meaning if there was any universal or if anyone actually lived according to general standard, which we don't) by default.
      If you look at jeans and T-shirts based on functionality, neither are functional outside of their original intended creation. Fashion, however caused them to be used outside of their functionality. So everytime you wear jeans (functional to work) and T-shirt (functional as underwear) outside of what it was originally created for, you are wearing them outside of function and by your logic are in fact "weird".
      In Jackson's case, People who knew Jackson said that when he was at home he wore jogging pants, jeans, t shirts, slacks, and pjs, when he made public appearances, he wore his MJ style. It was apart of his persona. Just like Steve's suit was his stage outfit, MJs style was his public dress. The difference is Steve's style is not iconic, Jackson's was. So Jackson as an entertainer, wore his trademark clothes. That didn't make him "weird", it was apart of his job. His at home clothing was the same as everyday people. His costume designers did an interview explaining that they tried to get him to wear more expensive and luxurious clothes around the house like a smoking jacket. But he would just go back to wearing a T-shirt and pj bottoms. What's "weird" about that? That's what many people wear at home.
      People tend to judge Jackson based on everyday people's standards and fail to remember that he wasn't an everyday person. So he had to function different from us. He needs to be judged based on his status as an entertainer, and many entertainers dress different publicly than everyday people.
      As to someone being abused just because they expose the truth about social constructs like normality. There are many people who were not abused like myself in this topic, and understand that we are all "weird" by default. It's not a matter of having been abused, but people needing to learn to know what they are talking about before labeling people "weird" when it doesn't apply.
      Jackson was not "weird" for wearing his trademark outfit to that church event, it was his public function, Steve and other people don't seem to understand that. And I agree with the OP. Steve's outfits here, not really making him look like he's in any position to criticise a fellow entertainers public dress. Michael's style was far more fashionable and iconic. His own style was 'just different'.

      I wish Michael saw it the way he did. Even though he meant nothing wrong so much can come from just trying to be nice. Especially with women and kids....always a misunderstanding. That's why his ass caught two cases smh

    • @yolanda7g
      @yolanda7g Před 9 lety +19

      Maddygurl12304996 But here's the thing - I think MJ lived in the world as he thought it should be. Where you can lend a hand to kids without being taken advantage of as he did. This is why he kept the way he was. I don't think it was naivety the entire way through. I think it was a conscious decision to be like 'no' - he was not going to stop giving and caring the way he did because society thought it was 'weird' or 'strange' to do so. MJ has said a lot of revealing things about this - most of all in Dancing the Dream ('the head says yes but the heart says no'). He said in an interview that if it came a choice between shutting himself off, being like everyone else, be cunning, thereby saving himself from suffering...and just taking the hits, MJ said he'd rather suffer.
      And MJ had it right. The one thing a lot of kids - black AND white kids - are lacking is a true family unit. Attention. And friendship. Adults leave them in front of TVs and the internet and can't be bothered, and all it produces is messed up adults. People are quick to criticize but a lot of what MJ said is true. This kind of stuff destroys our world. And MJ refused to conform because it was that important to him. And unfortunately, it cost him.

      @Maddygurl12304996 Před 9 lety +5

      That is a very good point. Im glad that he remained true to himself.....I just wish that more people understood where he came from and did not try to take advantage of him. Thats unfortunately how life is smh

    • @yolanda7g
      @yolanda7g Před 9 lety +8

      yeah its true. More so than that, I wish people actually listened to the stuff he tried to tell people in life and take it to heart so not all of it was in vain. People were so wrapped up in other stuff, and MJ really tried hard to get some important messages across but it always got overshadowed - obviously. But maybe now that he's dead and his life is looked at in a more reflective way, people can push through the clutter and see what he was really about.
