Amazing capture! Did the bird gulp those whole fish (do you know what type?) down alive?! I wonder if a spiky fish that size stands any slim chance of escaping or even damaging her stomach if eaten in that condition as well??

Yes it did. Watch how the fish wiggles while going down the bird's throat.
Herons eat everything and all of it. Snakes, rabbits, even cats. Fur and all.
