      @@suchetdas5392 Canon artificially limits the R5 Mark II to leave 8K oversampled 4K60p as an exclusive feature for the R5C Mark II or another camera. Thank Anthony for this video. I would like to add one thing, please. It’s SAD that these days camera manufacturers justify their price increase by adding flashy but IMPRACTICAL features like upscaling jpg files to 180 megapixels! Why don’t Sony and Canon add 32 BIT FLOAT internal audio recording to their cameras? That will help the majority of camera users who are solo shooters. Panasonic LUMIX GH7 already has it. All the pros know audio is worth 50% of their videos. If the audio is bad, then the video is useless.

    Based on some interviews, they are still saying that the R5C is more for video shooters that need a video hybrid camera that can shoot all day with zero overheating. Even with the R5MarkII having the fan grip, it's still not able to record video without heat limitations. Hard to know however, if the R5C was worth for them as a product. But considering the FX3's popularity I could still see a world where in a couple years they update the R5C to a mark ii version.

    as a sony shooter myself, I am very jealous of the r5ii (and r5). The r5ii is just such a balanced camera for almost all photography jobs, and sony just doesn't have a camera line (a7, a7r, a7s, a9, a1) that fits this higher budget true hybrid profile. The a7rv and a7siii are both around the same price as the r5ii (a bit cheaper), but they are both specialised for photos or video. We don't have a higher price-range camera that is a good hybrid of photo and video to compete. Our a7iv is a fantastic hybrid, but it is definitely one tier below the r5ii in price and features.

    • @JMurph2015
      @JMurph2015 Před měsícem +1

      a7iv should get a refresh this year or early next probably. a7r VI will likely show up sometime late next year or early 2026. I think the problem for Canon is like it seems quite trivial for Sony to drop an a7 or a7R that blows this out of the water. They already have the 3-4 year old a1 with almost exactly the required specs. Just trickle that general spec down to the a7 line and suddenly the Canon looks overpriced by $2K. Or they can bring a 61MP stacked sensor to the a7R and blow the r5ii's sensor at least out of the water.

    • @johannvantassel4604
      @johannvantassel4604 Před měsícem

      @@JMurph2015 right. The main difference in strategy between sony and canon is that canon likes putting faster sensors in all their cameras that shoot up to 30fps. Sony has the technology to completely outpace canon, but they just dont seem to want to make sports cameras under 6000$

    • @AnthonyGugliotta
      @AnthonyGugliotta  Před měsícem

    • @JMurph2015
      @JMurph2015 Před měsícem

      @@johannvantassel4604 you misunderstood. Sony haven't released anything this generation was my point. You can't accuse them of "only making $6000+ sports cams" when that was just the single most recent model refresh. All of the other cameras that are being compared are like 2-3 years old, so about 1/2-3/4 through their refresh cycles. They almost certainly *will* one-up Canon in terms of specs in one way or another in about a year when they update their other lines. It's an open question how they will do that, even more overmatched specialist cameras or pivoting toward a generalist approach. Remember the a1 is a 3 year old design, the a7R V is 2 years old, the a7 IV is 2.5 years old. These are old models. Comparing them to the R5ii is not apples-to-apples.

    I ditched the R6 because it would not allow me to use lens stabilisation without IBIS. Seriously found IBIS to be destructive and intrusive. Not just the jello. The irreparable effect was it sticking during panning, so people would jump 4 feet in one frame after the camera figured out that they were actually meant to be moving in the frame.

    ANTHONY!!! I need your help, please. In about 5 weeks I'll be purchasing either an R3 or an R5II.
    I have an R8 and have been wanting the higher 45 MP of the R5, but my understanding is that it doesn't do as well with sports.
    l'm upgrading camera bodies in September and have been mainly considering the R3 or now the R5II now that it's out and are comparable in price ($4k for the R3 brand new currently at B&H, $4,299 for the R5II + I always use a battery grip so we're talking around $4,500). I'm still currently leaning towards the R3, waiting for more hands-on reviews with the R5II.
    My main interest is shooting people; I've recently shot a niece's engagement, wedding and reception photos, a nephew's Prom photos of 5 couples, family photos, portraits, etc. This all obviously had me leaning towards the R5 (or R5II now).
    And while I honestly have been quite satisfied with results of the 24 MP on my R8, I have a friend who has an R5 and I do of course see the benefits of being able to crop/zoom in, larger prints and whatnot.
    However, I have also recently gotten into sports photography since I currently have three young teenagers (TRIPLETS, one daughter, two sons) who are and will continue to be in sports for at least the next 5 years (swim team, basketball, baseball/ softball, lacrosse, football/ flag, volleyball), which ultimately is leaning me again towards the R3.
    So for the moment, my conclusion is that the R3 gives me the best of both worlds in regards to what I shoot or will be shooting. Plus I freaking love the integrated grip.
    I was hoping that the R5II would be an improvement where I could use it adequately for sports, to essentially be an R3 with 45 MP. What are your thoughts on using the R5II for sports, vs the R3?
    And I would have even considered splurging for an R1, but with 24 MP, for now I would rather go with an R3. Would you recommend that I splurge for the R1?
    Please let me know your thoughts.
    And thank you for the great content you create!

    I have to disagree with your point on the R5II is a replacement to the R5C. Unless a Canon rep have told you so, there is just so much the R5C offers made it better not only than the R5, but still better than the R5II for video. There is clearly a market for compact full frame mirrorless for filmmaking and unless the C70 II downsizes to become like the R5, Canon would be making a terrible choice not keep the competition going and make cameras for video first hybrid shooters. Hi Anthony, interesting clip! About my special interest in other features: There seems to be still only anywhere between 17 and 22 minutes until shutdown in 120P - even with the new grip. That's not really pro video for wildlife shooters that are waiting sometimes far longer for the one perfect action moment...which might have a black-out camera due to standby 120P overheating :-( .
    And as Marco points out: More HQ downsampling 4K from 8K modes are required (60P, 120P).
    What I didn't hear / read at all is if the AF capabilities in video mode have changed, there was plenty room for improvement in wildlife like absolutely unstable animal detection as soon as the movement of the animla stopped.

    Only thing I missed was a possibility to jam timecode. Blackmagic pocket cameras accepts timecode through the 3.5mm mic jack. Sony FX3, A1, A7SIII can do timecode input over the USB connection. The R5II has been positioned as the small and light B camera to C400 given the codecs, CLOG2 and so much more. Timecode is the final piece to being able to easily slot the R5II into a production. Sure you can do audio timecode and convert later, but you loose the mic input. Sony gets around that. Blackmagic has the XLR inputs. Canon has the multi-shoe adapter to XLR from Tascam but from what I've heard it is shit. Canon really should make a 1st party XLR adapter to utilize the 4-audio channels they now have.

      If you look at the specifications for the CA-XLR2d, it has an EIN of -120db compared to -126 for the Tascam portacapture X8, and -133 for the metric halo uln-8 (a $4,000 audio unit), so I wouldn't call it "Shit". (maximum gain of 66 db for the CA-XLR2d). Panasonic, sony and red don't even publish those specs for their on-camera interfaces, and delegating the audio subsystem to Tascam frees up canon engineering staff to work on other aspects of the camera. I'm not happy with the performance of the lumix DMW-XLR unit - you can definitely hear the noise floor with 34 db of gain and fully professional mics, but I think the Tascam would be OK for run and gun. If you want pristine sound you should record separately and glue it together in post anyway.

    • @HakonBroderLund
      @HakonBroderLund Před měsícem

      @@KeithSklower true. The preamps in the Tascam is perfectly fine, and true. If you want pro audio that is done externally. That is another argument for the timecode input. Whats missing on the R5ii? Well, I would never be able to afford one... but i don't understand the CFXpress and V90 SD single card setup on a system that shoots 8k by professionals that would probably need/want dual recording. A photographer could get away with 2 different card speeds. But a videographer, to which Canon seems to have put a big effort into attracting potential buyers to the R5ii, would be crippled by this. Or at the very least, run the risk losing footagenfor their client.
    I think if I was a working photographer/videographer making money off this camera but can't justify something like the R1, this would be the biggest drawback.

    • @TomislavMoze

However, when you find out the limitations with combinations of Long GOP, All-I, frame rates, codecs, plus the need to buy the cooling grip, and invest in RF lenses (because of the horrendous 3rd party interaction)... then switching to the Canon ecosystem is just no a viable option. If you are already a Canon user... congrats... Canon just reached in your pocket for another whopping fistful of cash. Too many other affordable options out there now doing very well to jump ship.... heck the Lumix S5IIx is a VERY capable camera with open gate, video centric features, and that sweet IBIS. At less than 2k... its a far more sensible choice. And int he meantime, we still have to hear from Sony.... an A7S4 could be the gamechanger. Or not.... they manufacturers all play the stay away from the perfect camera game.
