Miniature Schnauzer Dog Breed Guide | Dogs 101 - Miniature Schnauzer
The Mini Schnauzerâs history goes all the way back to the 15th century. Mini Schnauzer was first recorded in 1888. It has been a faithful and affectionate companion since then.
Standard Schnauzers were great farm dogs, but German farmers needed something to help them solve their problem of ratting. They began to cross the Schnauzers with smaller races of the dogs, such as Affenpinscher, Mini Poodle, or Pomeranian. The result was a smaller, more rat hunting efficient version. At that time, their primary purpose was to act as guard dogs and to kill the rats that would enter the barn.
The mini Schnauzer is part of the AKC Terrier community with its rats hunting heritage, as is the Scottish or Border Terrier. The Mini Schnauzer was not bred on the British isles, unlike most terriers. Their autonomy is not as powerful as the Scottish Terrier, nor are they as hot-headed as the Irish Terrier. They are usually very docile, but they are observant as well as energetic. By 1926, these guys became famous in all areas in the USA and were established as one of the world's leading dogs. These are listed as the 11th best-known breed of dogs in the USA.
Mini Schnauzers are identifiable quickly. They only have a few colors in their coat, grey, white, black and silver. The stirring mustache is one of their most common attributes.
The Mini Schnauzer does not grow so large true to its name. The males can grow 36 centimeters high and weigh up to 8.2 kgs. The females are as large but usually only weigh up to 6.8 kilograms. We can see how mini gets its name compared to the standard Schnauzer, which can grow up to 50 centimeters and weigh up to 20 kilograms.

My first dog when I left home was a miniature schnauzer. Funny thing was I was looking through some old pics years later and saw my grandfather had a miniature schnauzer too! Same color and all. I had no idea, hadnât even heard of them before I got mine. Thought that was really weird. Great dogs, canât see having any other breed now. My current Mini Schnauzer is 14 1/2 years old now, sheâs deaf but still good no strong!
Schnauzers are super smart and have such a big personality. We bought mine a times food bowl and we realised she figured out how to open it within a week!

My dog who passed away in May was a schnauzer- poodle mix. A schnoodle. He spent the last 8 years of his life paralyzed but he never gave up for his love of life. One month short of 17 years. I still have not got over his passing. We will be getting another schnoodle this fall and if this dog is half the dog of my little guy that passed we will be the winner.

They come in liver also, got to love genetics. They just aren't able to compete in their class....but is due to recessive genes . I have a liver myself, and people always ask if he is mixed breed, he is not. â€đŸ
