I've bounced off of social dance before because I couldn't make the leap from instinctual grooving to a beat to intentionally following it with choreography. I'm 35, and for the first time in my life I feel like I'm crossing this musicality barrier. Thank you!

I can find easily the "1". But it's strange that the YT channel "salsa beat machine" takes this song as an example for dancing on "2"

any song can be danced on any timing. maybe you feel it more on one timing than another but if someone tells you you cant dance it on a certain timing they're full of shit. -robin

Would you call this cheating if I tell you I already know this song and listened to it many times before I started your course? :-) Except... I didn't find the 1 as easy as I do know. Using the knowledge I have gained through previous courses, I know what the 1 >> can be

Hello! I checked the supposed BPM of this song, and the tempo is supposed to be 82bpm. From your counting I guess you are using the double-time of 164bpm. When do you know which tempo you are supposed to use? Is it 164 because 82 would be too slow for Salsa dancing?
I got at first the slow tempo by myself (using the tap BPM webpage ;) ) and then got confused when I saw the speed of your counting...
    Thanks for your videos!

Hey thanks, looks like you're right that the websites say it's 82bpm but from the sound of the instruments to me I hear the song at 164bpm. Honestly I'm not a musician so I'm not going to say what's right or wrong. If you try dancing it to 82bpm you'll see that it feels awkwardly slow. You'd never dance that speed in a social dance. So if a song is really that slow you would just dance to it at double time, a speed that feels more natural for salsa. -Robin

      Hi @@thedancedojo,
Thanks for the quick reply! That does make sense, and the website I checked did mention that it's often used at double time for dancing :). Just a bit confusing for a beginner like me... Will need to repeat your videos a few more times to get the hang of it! - Alex
