    I'm enjoying watching this evolve . Rather than asking a ton of questions regarding the compatability of cams barrels pistons heads valves rockers push rods valve springs lifters and caps and so on . I'm just going to find out as you move forward . I've loved watching Tatro revamp dozens of Harley engines machining all the parts himself . Tatro has a machine shop but 99.9% of us don't. So that's what makes this interesting . ( getting parts that anyone can fit at home )
    Hope this comes across ok ..

    You know you are watching a great channel, when instead of being disappointed that a project is being held up due to supply chain issues, your first thought is: "Sweet, that means more episodes, and a guaranteed number of videos to look forward to!" • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Před 2 lety +2

      Thank you buddy, I appreciate that, it wasn't any particular delay, just I happened to order parts from the USA, most of the popular kits are in Europe, but not what I wanted so had to wait a little, plus a few of the gaskets were out of stock and as you know, you need to get all your ducks in a row before you pull the trigger, so all good, beginning filming re-assembly this week!

    Hey Dell, I am NOT a wrencher, But thanks very much for these vidz as I am really learning things about what I see on my Sporty. My 91 still had the flyweights in it so advance the timing. a tiney
    magnet w a fixed coil. . . those weights had to be greased every 2500 miles or one or I got stuck down in Venice, Fl and it cost me a good 250$ to get out of that mess. So yeah good maint. and knowing what has to be done and when...I got that changed out for the rotor style like I see here.

    Something stood out to me, and I was hoping you'd explain to me, so I understand why this method is important. You put assembly lube on the cams, so it stays wet and lubed during the time its sitting to prevent a dry start up but on the clutch pack you put either engine oil or primary or transmission oil on it. The clutch pack is going to be sitting just as long so wouldn't those parts dry out due to the oil running off after it's been sitting? Maybe I got distracted and missed that part if you already explained it.

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Před 5 měsíci

      Think it through mate.. start by considering that the cams, when stationary, are only touching at one tiny point...the rest being left to drain down.... the Clutch plates however... are in 100% full surface contact both sides, specially when staionary... so whould they drain down ?

    All is great but ... I can't get my head around about one thing: the bolts you are going to replace - why do you torque them to the spec, also applying Loctite??? Would not be sufficient as it is a temp fix, just to gently hand tight them to keep the cover on, without squashing new gasket? What is the reason behind doing it your way?

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  Před 2 lety +1

      Won't be replacing them until much later once the cosmetic work begins, and Ill be building the engine up all the way to fire up and heat cycle and oil change.. thus they will need to be torqued in properly for that, and you can replace one bolt at a time without releasing the gasket pressure with no problems. !

    As I mentioned in the comments of your last video on the clutch change/primary cover installation, you should clean the existing bolts and either rust proof them with a torch and motor oil or use a cold blue compound. I think the blackened hardware would look great against the aluminum covers and a nice match with the black frame. The money you save by not purchasing expensive (and currently unobtainable) hardware could be better used in other areas of the bike.

      Very rarely done Andy, the bottom end of these bikes are bomb proof, once you've got this far in and found cross hatching still fresh in the bores, cams barely run in and the pinion drive almost like new, you can take it for granted the bottom end is 100% fine, plus you've got to look up the price of the gaskets mate, it'll frighten you! I'm already up to over £250 on gaskets as it is, and the bottom end is that much again with all the bearings you'll need if you pull the crank out, and no point when you know it's good just by looking at the top end.
