    What is the most realistic focal length?
    The 85mm lens is considered the best fixed focal length lens for portraits. The narrow angle of view helps isolate the subject better and allows you to shoot from a comfortable working distance. Portraits taken at 85mm look the most natural because facial features don't get distorted.Apr 4, 2022

    Seeing as how I just picked up a 35mm, I'll have to let you know. Only retired my 35mm cameras awhile back actually. Been using a decent Olympus point and shoot up until I purchased the dslr. Are you using this on a crop sensor or full frame camera? Mine is a crop sensor which comes out to the equivalent of a 50, which has always been a staple of 35mm cameras ( or 55 ). I'm looking forward to see what results I get myself with it. Good question when it comes to primes. I feel everyone needs at least one. Primes are great for learning composition and framing as it forces you to learn how to move around physically to get that picture you want.
    Ah just caught in the comments you're using on full frame. A bit of a wider angle then. Luckily I do have an 18-55 so I'll have to try some expirements down at about 22mm. Now why couldn't someone just make a digital sensor device to drop into the back of a 35mm camera. Free idea there for anyone who followed this little rant.

    • @ev-ezaye3580
      @ev-ezaye3580 Před rokem

      Well on Sony cameras, the a7 line - at least - they allow you to shoot in APS mode, especially useful when using their E lenses for their cropped sensor cameras (Sony uses the same mount for both full and cropped sensor cameras - distinguished by FE and E lenses) I know this at least for the 1st and 2nd Gen a7 cameras. I don't know if they still do have that feature in Gen 3 through 5!

    How are you going to capture a compelling split second shot that calls for a 70mm when you are stuck with just a 35mm?
    Zoom lenses these days are so well-designed. True that their largest aperture may be no match compared to a prime, but that range of focal lengths you can get is astounding. It's like carrying infinitely many lenses as you zoom in and out from say, 24mm all the way to 105mm.
