It might seem weird, but to me learning English is all about discovering a new me, very different from who I used to be before speaking it and starting communicating. It definitely boosted my self-confidence too. Nice story!

Thanks for sharing, Julian. I think this kind of traumatic experience blocks many of us to thrive in life. Because we all, as human beings, need to be accepted, to belong and to feel safe. When there’s a lack of these universal human needs, it’s easy to shutdown and look for protection instead of moving forward and embracing challenges that could potencially threaten some of these needs even more. And our job is to find a way to show up in the world and open up to what we want and learn how to take care of all our needs, including growth, accomplishment, authenticity (an learning a second language is one expression of these needs in action) without freezing, instead, self-regulating when the world harsh and learning to embrace the power of our vulnerability. And I think it’s essential to learn anything and also to live with integrity. Cheers!
