    False start. English is nowhere near that. Check Arabic before broadcast😮 400k is nonsense respectfully It's somewhere between 1m and 1.5.m Irrespective of the analysis you first offered, convoluted and too subjecive tho it is IMO. I speak OK German which has around half KNOWN published words in total. Your video is basic fun and is not without value, but its content is collocation. Your view is too subjective here, but well done anyway.

    Omg this is some of the most hopeful information I've ever heard. I've been studying foreign languages out of my own curiosity since I was 7 years old. Nobody forced this upon me... I just always was more interested in traveling and speaking multiple languages... I fully plan to move to some nation in Europe and completely integrate and never ever EVER speak English again, not even to save a life. I don't care if you're on the ground bleeding to death, you'd better not ask me for help in English when I finally arrive in Europe.

    British accent is far more pleasing to listen to. American pronunciation is over the top with their R's, it's actually annoying to listen to. General English and General American are both easy to understand for me.

  • @taralh1986
    @taralh1986 Před 2 měsíci

    I can only speak from an American perspective but it's similar here. It's just not required to know foreign languages if you live here. The country is the size of Europe and whereas you'd pass through multiple countries amd languages to go from Spain to Poland, it's all the same country and same language here. You can travel and see numerous cultures all in the U.S. speaking only English. The Americans who make a conscious decision to learn languages do just as well as everyone else and that's without years of schooling or natural exposure (except for Spanish, depending on where you live). It's hard to learn a language on your own and without an immediate need to do so, people don't do it.

    I'm a native English speaker in the UK and speak advanced Russian. I also am learning Portuguese, though I can only speak on basic terms and not indulge into complex topics yet, though it's only been 10 months. There were a few times that I had to speak either Russian or my rudimentary Portuguese in the UK, because there are some people living here who don't speak English. And regarding French, classes were so ineffective, it's unbelievable. I had exposure to French a few hours a week for several years and never could say or write anything that a French person could understand. While with Portuguese, I am understood at 10 months of study. Turns out input is important and classroom drilling doesn't, who knew.

    Dont think five minutes is long enough to explain why there are so many British accents. Old English can explain the south and eastern parts of the country, which originally came from the Anglo-Saxon invasion. But we have to acknowledge the influence of the Celtic languages, obviously Welsh, Scottish regional accents derived from this. Or how the accents places like Liverpool or Manchester were influenced by Irish immigrants and other social factors. Then there's the class system too, which introduced a standardised form of English.

    When you read, you speak better in all aspects. Ask anyone who speaks more than one language, and you'll see. I do, and I can attest to that. Reading is paramount to speaking skills, as is listening and writing. Like seeing and hearing, one complements the other and, in fact, enhances each other, creating what's known as synergy or working better together than separately. Read as many books as you can, it would help you tremendously. By the way, English is not my first language so I know what I'm talking about.

    I think a false sense of entitlement only leads to frustration as the world keeps responding that it doesn't work the way you think it should. On the other hand, being grateful for the privileges you happened to be dealt and watching yourself build the life you desire, brick by brick, leads to a solid sense of self-esteem that beats the emptiness of baseless entitlement any day.
