- It's not a conspiracy that 151 has bad print quality, but was it done on purpose? Well, for the content of this video, YES IT WAS! Lets follow the evidence that is completely anecdotal to the cards in my cases to find out why!

I'd take that conspiracy theory one step further: clearly they outsourced printing of the set to the same facilities Wizards uses for Magic!🤯
That's precisely what happened. You can tell from the booster packaging especiall the glue on most packs. Pokemon packs open way easier than Magic cards.
i remember hearing horror stories about print quality for magic in 2013 or 2014. It would make sense. But it seems like I still can't find much as far as 151 out there. Though if the main printers for pokemon are moving on as scheduled, and then the extra printing of 151 and reprinting is done as wizards. I can also tell you 151 had horrible batching issues. Many of my packs had a pattern to what cards were in them. legit half my packs started with a charmander, then a pidgy. And I got lucky, where I bought my cards I got 2 zard SARs. But both are LP.
but doesn't bad QC make grade 10s harder to get which keeps 10 pops low which makes 151 more investable do to scarcity?
so they can sell more products
tiny portion of the hobby. Its mostly casual collectors coming into pokemon getting it.
As a player that collects it's nice pulling an SAR/SIR out of the pack, seeing it has a ding on the border and then feeling no guilt about sleeving it up to bling out my deck because I don't have to worry about depreciating its monetary value haha.
I admire you being so honest to your buyers in grading your cards, even when they are pack fresh, you grade them appropriately unlike some TCGPlayer sellers
OR... because 151 print run was SIGNIFICANTLY larger than all other SV sets thus far... and had to be produced on the same timeline...
...Increased quantities in the same amount of time = lower quality...
...Quality had to take a hit to meet demand. I think that's a far likelier scenario.
Ain't no way 151 got even close to as much print as other SV sets lmao.
@@AmbrotosArkhon I disagree. Pokémon isn’t dumb - they knew there’d be higher demand for 151 over their first several SV sets.
And it’s not worth debating. Nobody has the numbers.
@@AmbrotosArkhon For some reason your other comment isn't displaying now, but I'll address what you stated in that comment.
You claim Pokemon "...short prints to drive up scarcity"? I whole-heartedly disagree. Pokemon wants to get as much product into the hands of their Customers as they can. They don't want to see shortages, so that's a wild claim.
#2 - since you brought up supply again, here are some numbers you may not know about... I have visibility to a large wholesale program and here is what was purchased for Paldea, Obsidian and 151:
~100 Paldea Booster Box Cases (3,600 packs)
~175 Obsidian Booster Box Cases (6,300 packs)
~880 Pokemon 151 UPC's..... (14,080 packs)
Oh, and by the way, that doesn't include 151 ETB's... and you already know 151 ETB's DEMOLISHED its other SV set counterparts....
@@FlowerCityCards 1: Pokemon got cards into the hands of their customers. Sets like 151 aren't main sets and are special sets so they generally tend to be printed less.
2: Your math is wrong assuming your labels are correct. 1 case = 6 boxes. 100 CASES is 600 boxes * 36 packs per box or 21,600 packs. ETBs can be added up if you wish, but all sets have them so they mostly cancel themselves out mathematically.
I would be interested to know how many ETBs were purchased overall though.
Either way you're not hitting your claims of massive over printing and at the very best are on par with other sets.
@@AmbrotosArkhon While my math was wrong on the booster boxes, I see the numbers being purchased/allocated and I think what I failed to mention is that everything sold for 151 products. If we received as much as we did, then other distributors are getting the same amount. That's the piece of the puzzle we don't have.
There were about 100 ETB's, meaning 10,000 additional packs. All collection boxes, mini tins, ex boxes - EVERYTHING sold. Not the case for the other sets.
If you accounted for all of that, 151 outperformed / out-supplied every SV set thus far to-date.
Oh and 151 will be reprinted.. Can't say the same for the standard sets.
Here in Brazil we had a lot of problems with 151. That's so sad, print lines, white dots, scratches... This could be the best set in years... After that I collected the set in Japanese, the best quality possible.
ALL of the SV printing has been horrible back corners. Literally every pack I open I wonder why I bother ⚠️⚠️
Bro I had to stop the video right when Mason got up and started walking after taking down the green screen. LOVED THIS!! Hilarious, nonchalant, just get up and move to continue the same conversation. Great work!!
I like these type of videos from you. On the ground, raw, personal and to the point.
I know there is one factory which prints the worst cards of pokemon and magic. You can tell because the package breaks apart when you try to open it. The glue is super strong but the cards are always misaligned. I did get some packs from that factory for 151 and I knew as soon as I opened the pack the cards would be terrible. I get heaps of Magic cards from there. It's a US factory.
I opened up 151 right when it came out and had to stop - the ‘checkered’ print lines were so bad I just could t justify it.
I knew it! Like how does the machine screw up every full art and sir?
not having a sharp blade when cutting. They are going back to not replacing the blades when they should like in 2021
@@differentlyabledmuslimjewi4475 but look closely at the comment. Im saying it’s usually the nicest cards are defect-ridden. Most bulk is perfect other than centering
That explains a lot. 1 blastoise , 2 venusaurs, and 1 charizard SIR I pulled were all messed up. Dings and chips on the edges. And the worst was the charizard. It looked like it got stuck on some sorter and it has some deep long scratches on the back of the card along with chipped edge.
I thought that was a filter background so when you pulled it down my brain broke.
They’re coming from the factory with marker pen on now. Smh.
The S&V card stock is garbage.
Just opened 2 booster boxes of paradox rift and the same problems you speak of are present.
If you buy NM from most sellers on tcg player you can find a lot of LP as well lol
tell me about that lol so many purchases labelled as NM when they were actually not
I pulled the charizard and the blastoise art rares out of one upc box and they were both so clapped they went right to a binder wouldn’t even think of grading it’s bad lol
I have a pack fresh 151 gold card I pulled. I always keep my hands off the cards when pulled the best I can… whilst carefully inserting into a sleeve avoiding the corners, then into a card saver if deserved. This gold card… is the most damaged card I’ve ever owned!
I think it could also be the case that they were rushing to print this set and cut corners (literally)
I freaking love the tin hat episodes! I personally think the poor quality is due to the sheer print numbers. Higher quotas, lower quality standards. I could totally be wrong lol
I completely agree I just cracked the Charizard I have two Blastoise and two Squirtle literally all the desirable cards have some type of slight damage I don't understand it I'm very carefully when opening it
Definitely agree with you because otherwise everyone would be grading every single card printed. They probably knew they had to control the grading population given the trends for recent sets.
Yeah it's crazy 151 was my first set to start collecting with now that I'm buying other sets it's pretty rare to find cards with significant defects and damage weird
2:00 Come with me, and you'll see.....
I got a great chuckle out of the fedora tin foil hat. Bravo sir!
all the etbs I opened were the same
and the print lines were insane
Same thing they did with xy evolution set.
Remember Rudy doing the tin foil hat 😊anyone else you want to copy
Do you imagine there is a “fuck up” button at the factory or that they hire small children to play with the cards before packing them?
I ordered a 151 ETB from bestbuy a few days ago. Got the notification today it was ready to pick up. I was super pumped on my way home from work with that ETB sitting in my passenger seat. Opened all 9 packs, only had 1 pull. A fucking Arbok ex. That’s it. What a fucking joke
Only arbok buohaaaaaa! 💀 😅
Obsidion card quality was pretty banged up in my experience.
Thank you Mr. Shiny Hat Man!!!
I think they're just resting on their laurels now. They know that regardless of how bad quality gets that 98% of people are still going to buy products so they simply don't care to waste money by making sure quality is better or by trashing product that came out bad.
Interesting, but id almost think it’d go the other way. Lowesr psa pop, you’d think the set would be more investable bc people chasing the psa 10s. But you’d definitely know better than me.
i spent nearly $3000 and not one of the cards can pass as a psa 10
I figured they had to turn up the printing speed because they needed to move quickly to meet demand… still my opinion
Dull cutting blades due to mass printing
Pulled 5 charizard sir and they’re all damaged/off center to the point it’s not worth grading.
Mason got the pimp hat on haha
2:04 - Reality is torn asunder
I mean. If I was a con artist I would be recording all the things people consider 'tin-foil' hat theories and trying to replicate them because I know they will give me the benefit of the doubt.
They will never contain the poliwhirl hype.☢️ I didnt open 151 but Orion Sires opened all of it. He's your guy
You are much stricter requirements for NM than other places I have seen.
I really doubt they would intentionally make a set bad. But yeah, the quality is pretty bad for collectors. Luckily I’ve spent a couple K to make sure I have a really clean set. Spent way too much on it but I absolutely love this set
I’ve always thought that Pokemon benefits from providing various levels of condition. With grading exploding the past few years people are ripping so many packs chasing that “perfect” card. If all cards were “perfect” one of the biggest chase elements would be eliminated from the hobby thus they would sell less product.
Brother I respect you and your opinion but look at the burning shadows rainbow zard bad qc makes 10s more rare which makes pulling a 10 worthy chase card expensive just my opinion
Obsidian Flames card condition was awful so not sure that part holds up. Most of scarlet/violet print quality has been awful honestly
I’ve been saying it for years Mase but everyone thinks I’m a looney. They don’t like us making money 🤷🏻♂️
Every one of those LP's are sold as NM on tcg player.
I sold a good chunk of basic ex Singles and 99.99% of them are LP. I knew all the NM on market were not NM.
Idk man, most of my 151 cards are of great quality
That hat is spicy
No more reprint of 151? 🤫
I feel that about 151 quality
yeah because collectors love offcentered damaged cards
Honestly obsidian flames has terrible print quality and paradox rift also isn’t great, although it’s better than the other sets.
Love the tinfoil hat. I feel like that’s not the first time you’ve made one 😂
Might only collect Japanese for now on…… 😂😂😂
100%
Conditions has been absolutely trash
No lie print quality was horrible
Thats why people running to one piece
Wonder if they reduced the quality to save some money as well. Kill 2 pidgey with one printer
Tin foil fedora 😂
Have pulled 3 Zards and one of them had a small dent on the side of the card. The other two are solid PSA 10 candidates. I traded in the dented one for a UPC and pulled the last card I need to complete the set. 151 was a perfect set to me and I never had a problem with card condition except for that one Zard.
Maybe if u took better care of your cards then maybe they won't be all LP😅
Mason you are covering this topic to hide the fact Pokerev is clearly getting WOTC sets reprinted for him by Pokémon. 🧐
Only mason could make a video about CARD CONDITION interesting
Just cuz it’s crazy don’t mean IT AINT TRUE!!!
