- Nope, you’re not alone! Cats are known to be picky when it comes to new food, especially when the tastes & textures are so different. Ultimately, patience is the most important when it comes to transitioning. While this is definitely not the norm, we’ve even heard of senior cats taking multiple months before getting to full raw. What other tips / techniques did you use to help during the transition phase? 🐱

When we started formulating our Cat Recipes, we thought that it’d be quite similar to our Dog Recipes but we were proven wrong so quick 😂 our nutritionist kept emphasizing the importance of ‘palatability’ for cats which was less of a concern when we were working on our dog meals. Since cats are pickier, it was important to not add anything that might deter them during the transition. Whereas commercial dry food companies would use add-ins & palatants to solve this, the only thing that we could do was pick our ingredients carefully. Add in the higher nutritional requirements, and now it felt like an unsolvable puzzle. Every ingredient we added in had a significant nutritional role to play. From mussels for manganese to organic egg yolk for choline, each was intentionally chosen.
But as a result, we now have the most nutritionally-dense yet most ‘pure’ Cat Recipes. There’s nothing extra like veggies / fillers / spices, and it’s jam-packed with the good stuff while still being a high meat percentage-based diet. We can’t wait to hear what yours thinks!
Its better to also switch to a plate instead of a high-sided bowl as they can experience something called whisker stress or fatigue which can turn them off wanting to eat, as their whiskers are constantly being bothered when trying to eat from a high-sided bowl.
Is there any benefit to having the plate raised?
@@hammypie I have never personally used a raised plate but I do know they should be eating in a position that's more natural for them like the crouched position, though idk too much about it.
@@catsatdusk6710I was always kind of against trying the raised plate idea because I also thought it was an unnatural position too, but I finally gave in to see if it would help my one cat who frequently vomited after eating. And that 3” elevation has made such a difference!! She doesn’t get sick anymore!
@@kristy1653 that's so good to know.. but i am so curious why that would be the case since it's not a natural position?? either way i'll do that if my cats ever starts vomiting
My cat actually likes high sided bowl, lol. Or to be precise, I think due to the way he eats, which is predominantly licking, his food will move around. High sided help to prevent spillage, make the food more concentrated, makes it easier for him to eat. So, I guess never underestimate our own firsthand observation on our furkids. Sometimes we are just faced with a very unique preference that rarely found elsewhere.
My cat switched from canned food to raw food right away at 7 mos. I put two plates down for him to choose. One plate with canned food, and one with complete and balanced raw food. He chose the plate with raw food.

Your very lucky. I tried this and she absolutely refused the raw and was suspicious of her regular food after that.

My cats had no issues switching to raw, in fact they love it . They have been eating raw for almost 2 months now

My kitten began eating full raw at 8 weeks old. He has never had anything but a raw diet 😊
My cat eats everything, no preference, clean bowl every time , it also eats by hunting outside and eating full animal plus eats the full bowl and sleeps for 12 hours.
Cats really rely on textures. My cat will only eat freeze dried, even though I raised her raw 15 years ago
i do Hybrid, Wet can and raw (usually Frozen Beef and thawed immediately). But my cat transitioned right away.. But I do notice my cat get hungrier faster with raw food vs wetfood
Tonight I gave our one cat raw venison ground meat and she ate it immediately! Never had it before. 🐈🦌

I hide a small portion of raw in my cat's wet food.
I got my cats to eat raw by getting chicken hearts and blending them with a little water so make it smoother.
We recently aquired a new cat. Or more accurately, she aquired us. She’s all moved into my garage. The thing is, I raw feed my dogs and I feel bad giving her commercial cat food but she loves it and refuses to eat anything raw I put in front of her. She’s not picky about commercial cat food though, she’ll eat wet, dry, moist and any brand I buy works for her too, she just refuses to eat real food. I’m going to try cooking it, but I’m vegetarian and don’t feel comfortable cooking meat. Even raw feeding meat to my dogs is uncomfortable for me but I can deal with it.
It can take some patience but it already sounds like you're doing a lot for her :) just doing whatever you can makes a difference! Have you tried taking a bit of the wet food she eats and mixing tiny bits of raw into it?

Same.. my cat gave birth to 3 kittens and they are 3-4 moths old now at first we gave our kittens cooked meat and raw but slowy we started giving them dry aswell but 1 of the kitten is such a pickey eater she Doesn't eat anything rather than raw. And its such a big Problem because we dont have Raw food laying around all the time and most of the time its frozen in the frige and i swear to god she would not eat food for 2 days if we dont give her raw. And the other problem is when we give her raw food she would wait a few seconds to eat it and the other kittens run in and steal the food from her and she just stands there until we give her another pice. Idk what to do with her she would look in the trash for raw meat but Doesn't want to eat the food we gave her😔
I literally just sat down the raw food one day and they immediately started eating like I switch up my cats food so much from wet food to raw food to dry food to just sardines into the water that I don’t feel like they’ve gotten used to anything. Maybe in the past for sure my cat headed obsession with fancy feast for period of time but as he’s gotten older, he pretty much it’s whatever I put out.

I had no problem converting mine at 5 years old. They absolutely prefer raw.
Don't free feed my cat is like impossible xd I don't even eat on a schedule haha. I've always just gave her a bit of food before I got to sleep and in the morning. Sometimes my cat will meow at me for food (pretty rare tho). My cat's not fat and if anything is just regular weight and doesn't overeat either. She use to eat meats but at a certain point she basically just refuse to eat anything that isn't dry. (Even as a kitten she refused to eat wet foods so we just gave up, the vets also said if they just don't want to just don't do it.)
I'm having a difficult time stitching my two adult cats to raw.

Also people, please don’t underestimate the power of simply letting your cat become hungry. Wait a whole day or even two, the cat won’t avoid wet/raw food and starve itself. It’s ok for the cat to become hungry first, it would be cruel to force the cat to eat crap it’s whole life just because you can’t hold out a day or two until it becomes hungry
Never let your cat go 2 days without eating. They can get hepatic lipidosis and it can be fatal
I have recently found a street adult cat, I haven't feeded any raw to her still since I don't know how to make raw for her, which doesn't even harm her and she also likes the taste, with zero experience it's first time I am raising a cat
I would recommend that you dont give her any raw food and just stick to what your feeding her. Because i have a cat that i found in the streets as well at first we gave her raw and caned and slowly started giving him dry aswell but at first he ate everything but later she became spoiled and just wanted raw and didnt touch anything else and it became a really big problem because we didnt had raw food laying around all the time and most of the time it was frozen in the frige. It was really hard to get rid of the raw food addiction but slowly she started eating other foods again. Im not saying that all cats are the same but i would suggest that you dont give her raw food all the time or she would become spoiled like mine😅
I might get a 5+ year old cat and a 4 month old cat and they will both be transitioned to raw diets and the most spoiled things ever if I get them
I have transitioned to adult cats to Raw. It took two months from going from free fed kibble to twice a day raw.

@@ErichMariaRemarque2023 my cats were being fed free feed, kibble. so first I got them used to eating kibble twice a day. then I added in canned food until they were eating just canned twice a day. then I gradually added in ground premade raw food until they were eating just raw twice a day. you can skip the kibble portion if your cats are already eating canned well. Cats are much harder to switchover than dogs are. And you can’t do the Toughlove method with a cat.
My cat used to eat anything and everything. Man tried to fight me to take chocolate out of my hand. Dw he did not get any and was not injured me however I was scratched up 😂

Anyone know how to prevent Taxoplasmosis when switching to raw?
The Toxoplasma gondii parasite is actual susceptible to freezing so is mainly a concern when using 'fresh' meat & ingredients that are never frozen. We actually receive all of our raw materials frozen & process them at 30F (frozen temperatures) and bring all products down to 0F immediately afterwards. this is a great question! It depends on how you're sourcing your raw food & the food safety practices of the manufacturer. For example, we require all of our beef suppliers to test their products for E. coli & also test our batches of food for E. coli after manufacturing & prior to releasing the food to ship! Yes most fish is safe as long as it’s boneless and isn’t seasoned or salted, however fish should only be a meal addition or treat and not fed as a complete meal because it lacks many essentials nutrients and even with supplementing it’s difficult to cover all nutritional gaps
I have 5months old and she never eat it. She just smells it and go away and didnt come back for it. Is this good normal or she should it raw
we'd definitely recommend starting slow! have you tried mixing it with her current food in really small amounts (i.e. just a spoonful of raw mixed in very well)? If you have any other questions about transitioning feel free to ask :)

If Becky is really working 16 hours/6 days a week, on her feet all day…how’s she still this big? If I was working 90 some hours a week, I would barely have enough time to sleep, let alone eat enough each day to maintain my fatness. 🤔 Shit’s not adding up here.

Don’t compare cats to dogs or vise versa they are entirely different species and the breeds of both have varying temperaments if we’re comparing a shiba to a ragdoll the roles would be reversed

Uh, dogs can be picky about food too. Also dogs aren't loving as a default. Recuses for an example can be fearful, aggressive, have health issues that can effect their views of people, etc. So both your reasons for trying to say dogs are "better" are not valid.
