A gateway to Europe, the Greek island of Lesbos saw tens of thousands of refugees arrive in 2015. Back then, the islanders rushed to help the new arrivals. But today, sympathy has given way to exasperation. Many migrants are stuck on the island, waiting for their asylum requests to be processed. Their living conditions are dire; some have lost everything in a fire. Our reporters went to Lesbos, where they witnessed the migrants' plight, but also the growing frustration of local residents.

Unbelievably, the refugees were greeted with love and they repaid the hospitality by destroying property. Is that any way to behave? How do they expect to be welcomed?

"Refugees"? Most of them have been living in Turkey FOR YEARS.
And most of them come from African countries where there is NO WAR! Morocco, Algier, Tunis, Nigeria, Somalia, Ghana, etc. etc. Others are coming from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Irak, Iran, Lebanon, where there is no war either.

They set fire to the Camps themselves because they think they will be moved to Europe if the Camp isn't fit for them to live in ...one of the Camp's the Migrants were all packed up ready to leave the Camp about an hour before it Wes set on fire..They must have been told it would be set fire to ,that is why they were all Packed to leave ...It was a Camp on Lesbos not so long ago...They should just ask if the EU. Will pay for them to go back to their Countries...Angela Merkel encouraged all these Migrants to come to Europe when she flooded Germany with a Million and a half of them in 2015...She Caused all this trouble...

@Bainsworth erdoghan tries to create a permanent sunitic minority in greece so to influence the political matters of the country
If you have noticed from 2016 the borders to europe are closed from the north so there is no chance for this people to go in germany etc. Therefore why he still sents immigrants mainly and not syrians to the greek islands?
The procedure for asyloum is at least one or two.days per person
One has tooki it....40-50 people have already arrived......to request...the system can not work
Why in his deal 2016 said that if these people leave from the islands he wont accept them.back???by this way he is pushing the greek goverment to keep them there, in lesvos suddey the 40 per cent are immigrants.....when they will go.back??turkey wishes never

I got really Sick but never did i complain demand or even expect help like some of these people do. Also i respect others properties. I cant stand vandalism. I find the refugee question so hard because i know many good people that came here in dire need of help. but i also know of some that is only after draining our system and take advantage. I hope their country's will be healed so they can return. Lillehammer is about 5 hours drive from where i live. I passed trough it a couple of times in my life, going further up North. Many left to seek opportunities back then we had very few here and much poverty. So I understand the draw and the need. yet i think of what the Native Americans suffered because of that too. I dont think those whom left understood what they where getting into. They didn`t have much more than a dream either. @@Sup_Mate Some do that... just for fun or publicity really. so a lifetime of welfare in a free luxurious house. driving a free car and all bills paid might. All they need is a sad story. Some wont even give their real name or age. i had a political refuge living in my home. he told many stories of how many of those whom come are the rich in their country. (one had to be to afford the journey or to be prioritized) the promises and stories told there about our nations and what they will get are quite lofty. Most are horrified when they arrive and realize the reality of the matter. as some are treated like royalty where they come from. Many are given scripts before they go of what to say when they arrive to glide through the system. how to get as much for free as possible. they are expected to send loads of money back to their families and if they don`t they may get in real trouble with their families. Since the west have changed approach and it`s more difficult today to get as much out of our social programs as it was common to get in the 80-90`s the pressure has gone down but it`s still lucrative enough for some i guess. It`s truly sad There are still some that truly need help. but as in anything else they are often pushed aside for liars and crooks. @@ChronicCraftsman no, it isn't the europeans's people fault! Not at all the fault of the PEOPLE! However one can't deny the contribution of European POLICIES to the current situation. France needs to let go of former colonies and stop meddling in state affairs or being a bully. Of course France is backed up by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the EU. It is unthinkable that in this day and age all former french african colonies still use the French CFA Francs as their currency. And what happens when african leaders or the Population want to fight against these? Either the regime is overthrown (backed up by NATO) and the leaders condemned in western media as dictators (e.g. Gaddafi, former Ivorian president, etc) OR if the leaders are puppets of the european regime, they will get "support" from these countries and send in their troops in the name of "peace corps" to terrorize the civilians from protesting and fighting for what is right (e.g. the case of Cameroon with Paul Biya). Either way France benefits and so too does Europe. Because France is the second largest economy in the EU. And if France fails so too does Europe! So either way, right is right and wrong is wrong! And if the EU doesnt put pressure on France to stop this, it therefore means they are in support and seem to benefit from France's exploitation too. Once this stops, mass emigration/immigration will also stop!

      @ChronicCraftsman Před 4 lety +1

nkem eto hey I understand your point about France and their meddling with the politics of certain African countries and I agree with you completely, but this situation has nothing to do with African migrants at all! It’s about Syrian, Iraqi, Iranian, Afghani, Pakistani, Indian, migrants who are in Turkey hoping to illegally cross the Greek border to travel to Western Europe mainly the U.K or Germany. I cannot speak for Germany but as far as the U.K goes there is no longer the resources for anymore illegal immigrants full stop. There is a lot of British hard working people that are paying their taxes towards housing, feeding, educating, asylum seekers. And that’s not including the cost of health care for them either. So yes I can sympathise with the plight of some of the migrants, but surely the working age men of these countries should be at their home lands fighting and working to make their own countries better instead of running off looking to illegally travel to countries where the majority of the people don’t want them in their countries?

it stuns me they travel from Africa over many countries not escaping war as a real refugee do, but wanting to bypass legal immigration and force their way in to Europe. there is nothing wrong in wanting to improve your economic situation but do it legally Europe isn't the answer to everything. what shocks me is the entitlement and the complete lack of respect they have for the host country. I see it in my own country where these so called refugees are taken in, given support, somewhere to live and safety and then complain and demand more

It's a plain game of Erdog to provoke Greece, as always!!! But what's the position of european allies concerning Greece?
10 years they prohibit foreigners to pass into their countries by forcing Greece to keep them there!
10 years they have turned Greece into a big storage room of foreigners from arab countries!!!

      1. How can you say it's *not* about willingness but in the next sentence talk about what someone *doesn't want to do* ? What I'm willing to do is the definition of willingness. I'm not saying i blame them for not wanting to do that, or that I think it's a desirable action - merely that's where the problem lies, not in a lack of manpower or equipment.
      2. We have indication that the Turkish forces has supplied the migrants with equpiment (like tear gas) - which is highly problematic. But not in a larger scale. Saying that the migrants has *the same equpiment* as the Greek border guards is nonsense.
      3. Large scale migration has never been the answer. I'm sympathetic with the greeks but at the same time (as you can hear in this video) the people of Lesbos had for years helping migrants - feeling good about themselves while doing so - but then sending them on becoming someone elses problem. I wouldn't mind handing out waterbottles beeing all nice as long as I cuold send them on after that. Unfortunately I live in the north of Europe where all these helped migrants from Greece eventually ended up. We havn't had a pressure valve to release and send them on when it all came breaking down on us. *That's* why we eventually said ENOUGH and closed our borders. Which sent a wave of closed borders down Europe and eventually made Greece the once with all those people that couldn't be sent on. *Greece shouldn't have let them in to with to begin with!*
      4. "Criminality, robberies, rapes, dirt, drugs..." I'm from Sweden. You don't have to tell me things I already know. We have more attacks with explosives nowdays then Mexico.
      5. I don't know what you mean by "where's the support". You have *massive* support from the rest of Europe. I hear NO countries with support for letting these people in. Every country is saying they refuse to take in another large amount of migrants. Sure the main stream media is calling people "refugees", but the politicians and the people are 100% pro support of the Greek border.

It`s not the first time i see it so at least. You are not forgotten. They want eu to get involved in talks for solutions. i hope they will find real solutions this time. But we are a small country too, so to be honest i`m not holding my breath unless someone coughs.... We must not give up hope though, maybe something good will come out of this epidemic. the refugees wont likely be so willing to travel to the epicenter of an epidemic, if they know. On the way back I wanted to visit Antwerpen but when I got out central station it was in such a mess, immigrants, angry, filthy. I got quickly on the first available bus from Antwerpen in 5 minutes despite travelled from Groningen but you need to show UK passport before buying bus ticket to UK. Even before Brexit it felt like travelling from EU to UK was like abroad like UK is not really EU. That bus was late. On the way just before crossing the English Chanel bus was going though immigration checks from France to UK prior boarding on a ferry. Dogs were barking. There was illegal immigrant in the luggage compartment. It is £10,000 per immigrant penalty for bus driver if he would have made it to UK. Lucky French police spotted him before crossing. Also on the way from London to Rotterdam Flix bus was stopped by Dutch motor police for inspection. It is tense situation. It was April 2019 before this crisis in Mach 2020.
