In this edition of the CRAFT Video, Becky Stern shows you how to make a custom fabric bike seat cover. You might make one if your bike seat is in disrepair, needs protection from rain, or, if you're like me, you want to cover up your nice saddle to deter potential thieves from lifting your seat while your bike is locked up outside. blog.craftzine....
*Grandson lives out from town on 18 acres and the **Latest.Bike** is great on trails through the woods, on gravel driveway, and through the yard. Keeps them active. Thanks Easter Bunny*
Damn, that's a mighty fine bike seat cover! And the instructions make it seem super easy!
@jdsmart118 It's a 2009 Fuji Track. Available in all sorts of sizes!
Why don't people like this host? She is doing great
Well done! A seat cover for rainy days sounds like a to-do project for my bicycle. :)
@TheYurry Hah, that's a neat idea! I'll have to try that next time.
That was a great tutorial, succinct, specific, straightforward, and the end product was perfect. Thanks.
@DraXgonProductions I was experimenting with different beads/charms to go through the holes in the saddle for decoration!
@Trixrocks Yep, you could make it bigger and use a layer of foam between it and the seat.
I myself have two left hands when it comes to sewing and I don't have a machine but I think it would be easy to enlist the services with somebody that I can make this product I think I'll be a piece of cake with him after I show them this video
I just made a cover for my recumbent bike and it turned out perfect! Thank you 💃🏻
Though I've been thinking of scrapping my bikes to make a recumbent bike, this was a good video. Also, I REALLY like the clean editing style that was used in this one.

I gather any unused chainlinks, put them together and make it long enough to go from my bike's top bar to the seat to avoid having it stolen.
I saw it on a video on here.
I also use old punctured tubes as my bar tape.
Pretty awesome.
@paukenkiger 1. it's actually leather, and the drawstring makes it really tight so it doesn't slide. 2. Just throw it in the washing machine. 3. It's to deter someone from stealing my name brand seat off of my parked and locked bike. 4. show me yours! Mine's a 2009 Fuji track with 650 wheels, nothing to scoff at and a great ride around town.
Thanks for this! I don't do much sewing, and I thought this project was going to be too simple to learn from, but I picked up some good tips after all. :)
Iv got gel seat covers on all my bikes with soft plastic carrier bags tied over them. Some are expensive mtbs and as well as protecting the gel seats from wet and mud etc it also makes the bikes look a bit less nickable. The bags eventually wear out but are cheap to replace. They probably hold up better than your seat cover would as well, which would be sh*t up and ripped in a few months
i really liked this one! i bought a bike to help save on gas this summer and i've been hard pressed to find cool lookin seat that is also comfortable! i think i might try this with an old leather jacket since the bike i purchased is a Pee Wee Herman style Cruiser lol
@rustyman101 totally!
me likes alot! so many fabrics and patterns to play with...old band t's with neat logos...schweet!
Awesome work... i went a step further and made double layer seat cover with extra cushion in between! :)
i dont own a bike... and really dont plan on ever owning one but that seat cover was pretty cool.
@029jessica Hah, thanks, but the footage is sped up during the sewing machine section! =]
@rustyman101 I would not recommend it for a large power bike because the G-force s in a turn are greater then that of a bikecycle and if the cover slides from under you it might not be pretty. but hey depending on the fabric it might work. test it at different speeds. OOO but I do like the craft I think it is outstanding.
Very nice Becky! Thank you for sharing.
You are awesome! I love it and will be trying it tomorrow. Thank you for the tricks.
best way to do this is to take a old seat that will not be used any more and take the seat apart providing its practically the same as the one you own.
I am paralyzed by this epic video!
@thunder22700 well, thieves are looking for resale value, rarely looking to nick parts for their own bikes!
very stylish work here, and you are quite clever and adorable, thanks for sharing these videos, cheers
Wow. The first craft I could use!!!
it's maybe a bit different to do but looks nice and not many people have a bike seat like this =)
That's pretty neat. Great job.
Looks pretty good, prevents wearing too I believe. Too bad I'm not really into sewing...
My brooks saddle never allows me to fart. Great idea!
@mattox can probably get some memory foam from a craft or hobby store, if not check your dollar stores or wal mart for some cheap memory foam pillows
Looks pretty nice
Hey that's awesome, I love DIY things like this. The seat looks great! :)
great nails! and you make it look so easy!
great tuto: fast, easy to follow, thanks!
the seat you had under it was really nice lol i don't think i would have done that, would have just used a bike lock so people don't steal it...
@InweTaralom I wear safety glasses!
Nice project, turned out perfect too!
Thats really creative, i would never have though about it, but could you fill it with... im not sure which kind of material, but something to fill it to make it coushoned?
@ljsavmech its not for a powerbike mini 4stroke, 4 tuning went looking for fabric the other day, didn't find what i like, probably going to design something myself :D
@leloodallasmultipass class indeed! =] Good tips, thanks!
This was great I can do this I fix bikes and sell them this one was the easiest thanks
1. because this is MAKE =]
2. My /bike/ is branded, but it's locked to a pole. My seat isn't locked, so this "hides" it, so to speak.
@TehDuffs yah, NYC, bike theft capitol of the nation, second to only maybe SF.
@TrentR42 Thanks!
soo to prevent your bike from being stolen because of what kind it is...you put a really cool and flashy bike seat cover... awesome
Very great master class!!! Thank you!!!
What can you do if you want a gel seat or at least a more padded cover?
question: should i do this on my motorcycle... would it be possible, its a big seat
but it looks very cool :D
I have the same seat. Totally going to try this, Thanks!
Oh cool, thanks. Ill have to try this sometime
that looks cool thanks
it's a great idea and thanks
Thank you!☺
Thats pretty awesome!
Used this multiple times
Which cloth we use
well made vid. nice work.
I would not clip the inside curves- this is a stretch fabric. This just creates more edges that can fray. I also would do a tight zigzag stitch all the way around to avoid fraying at all. To top it off, I would embroider the words "Becky's Butt Here" in the middle of the cover, were I you... for *a touch of class*.
@panzuman I agree. dope stuff!
Very useful video thank you!!
wow pretty neat work
@KernowLadz im making a blue and black one with lightning bolts for my bmx and then im going to paint my bmx blue and black with the lightning bolts
Nice!
whats the white dot for that was in the begining?
thats really cool
@InweTaralom You can do it slow, like her.
i didn't ride a bike for a few years and the one time i do, my butt hurt so bad for a week...omg never again...or get a new bike seat. it hurt alot O.O
well done
a good idea!
@rustyman101 there are few videos on modding motorcycle seats in YT. I recomend to buy the same seat for bike somewhere on Internet, and then try modding it. It would be bad to ruin your only bike seat :O
Cool, I am making a denim one for my BMX :D
Looks really good, but I don't have a sewing machine, so my stitching would bunch up the fabric.
can you stuff under the cover some soft pillowy material to make a seat more comfortable?
what I was thinking but I am more interested into making my fit bike seat more comfortable as its quite hard on a bike that may get rained on I would put a waterproof material in-between the stuffing and the cover as it will get smelly and mouldy quite quickly
littlemissmakeup075 thats very true haha thanks for the advice
no problem happy to help
It's drawstring. You can take it off when you're done riding.
Love this!! Thank you for sharing : )
brooks leather saddle?
I did one out of the Newspaper.. But after the Rain s.o. has stolen it or sth..
Great job i love it
@ljsavmech stand up during turns?
@mewmaster151 dear master I would never recommend to anyone to stand up during a turn on a motorcycle. wether it is a large 1000hp susuki or simple mo-pped.
thats a brooks saddle she has those things go for like 200 bucks!
very useful
@mix1300 My recommendation is to drive more bike. :) You get used to it. If your seat is soft change it for a harder one, soft seats heart more, trust me I know. Get your lazy ass from the seat when you are riding on bumps and wearing soft pants with no hard sewing like jeans.
@makemagazine ahh makes sense. great job!
the tracing lines looks like an iron man mask =D
Preety useful :)
my bro and his friend ade black and wihte handle bars and new grips.
that was cool
@DraXgonProductions was it some kinda vibration mod?
sweet.
love it!! thanks for the help!! xo
did you sew right over those pins?
Nice
Thank you!
does this cover slide from seat?
@makemagazine cool i got a 1987 robinson racing gt bmx bike
