  • In 2023, a series of NOAA expeditions in the Gulf of Alaska yielded fascinating, high definition encounters with deep-living and some truly strange ocean creatures: these are just ten of the intriguing ROV (remotely operated vehicle) findings from an August dive at a site called the Denson Seamount.

    It’s so exciting to see how many lower and upper lifeforms have similar qualities at depth. The limitations not presented at the upper echelons of the ocean, or for terrestrial life, confuse people to attach intelligence and complexity to life below where we cannot exist. The octopus and squid thrive there. Sperm Whale hunt there, whose brain it at least six times our size, and have at least fourteen million more years of experience on this planet the we humans have. There is so much we don’t know about the depths of our oceans. With this information, we mere humans should be in awe of the complexities of existence on our small blue ball of life in the vastness of the universe.

    The quality of the recordings is amazing, considering these creatures live in total darkness. The glaucous blind eyes are so different from the creatures able to properly see, and their movements at such depth is quite remarkable as the snail fish in particular seems to prefer a sideways progression or even going backwards tha straight forward. Most intriguing: Is the curled up eel in a defensive position, ill or just living like this? My only disappointment is that you haven't included any informative comments after each video as you used to do. What is the water temperature and pressure at these depths? Surprising to see how much life there is down there in this area.

    • @nct948
      @nct948 Před 3 měsíci

      I was wondering if it was due to strong currents, but you might be right. Some animals seem to sense there is something entering their surroundings, like the first photos of the octopus, who appears to me to be on high alert in a protective stance, all tentacles curled up on themselves like a frilly skirt. Afterwards it seems to relax as nothing is attacking it. Some people mention light emitted by the sub. but I thought it didn't emit light. Do you know? However it must be a source of unusual sounds in this quiet environment. I am therefore surprised they don't rush away from it. Very intriguing technology. 🤔

Ok, on my limited inspection that could just be a white rock strategically covered in dirt in the background, but that bell shaped white thing center right?
