@Clomnang What i said, in my last reply is far from misinformation. You said vocal fry can't be done inwards, yet when i was laying in bed writing that reply i did it myself. Saying that is like saying beatboxers can't produce bass inwards even tho they do it all that time and its called inward bass. and i have recently been learning how to do said "Inward bass" and while learning that doing a whole lot of inward vocal fry.
According to the rules of traditional harmony, the distance between the bass and the next voice (baritone, in this case) can be as big as you like as long as the distance between each of the other voices is no more than an octave. And that's what they do in the final chord. From highest to lowest, the notes that make the final chord are Eb4, Bb3, G3 and Eb1. A fifth singer hitting a Bb2 would have made it sound even more powerful, but it's great as it is. It gives me chills down my spine every time.
Alvabass I disagree. Modern harmony theorists argue that for every second-fifth of an octave between vocal ranges, vocalists can indeed substitute pitch for distance, regardless of the third or fourth positions. Astounding in its simplicity.
And also when he hits the "high" subharmonic at 3:37. Subharmonics in the higher end of the spectrum are really hard to hit because the faster vibration needed to give a higher note makes it harder to stay in the subharmonic throat position and not jump to your chest voice. He's an awesome singer with a very clean technique.
This might be my favorite video on youtube. I love the arrangement of the song, the legato style makes the song flow so beautifully. Other versions of this song feel like a march and just don't capture the essence of what this song is in my opinion. Also, just seeing the joy on that bass singer's face is so powerful. That dude is visibly moved by the song and at the same time gets to showcase his incredible talent. I'm just glad that youtube exists so I can watch this for free any time I want.
I agree with everything you said but one thing. It doesn't do Ken Turner justice if you call it talent. Rather, it's a culmination of time, talent and pure practice that encapsulates this showcase of his skill!

Hi. Do you sing those low notes with normal compression of the glotis or do you compress the air more, like when doing a vocal fry? It sounds more compressed to me but I'm a tenor so I don't have a clue what it is to sing that low.
Sebastian Celesner for the really low stuff in the second half of the song, the notes are being made through inhaling fry. It's pretty good. I can get to around G0 with it, but this guy's got it down good.
I can sing almost as low as him (D1) just not near as loud. Not inhaling either, and neither is he. When you use that technique your throat sucks in really tight, his puffed out meaning he’s pressurizing his vocal chords and using falsetto. It’s how Oktavists sing so low with so much volume. It takes years to develop and that technique. I can do it and hit those low notes but it’s hard to control and very quiet until you develop power over years of practice and conditioning. It’s also why all oktavists are Middle Aged or older. Also when you get below G1 you get a gravely sound no matter what because your vocal chords are too short in length to sound smooth below that range. It’s why JD summer also is quite raspy in the lowest register, it’s not lack of a smooth voice, it’s physics. I have a large vocal range so I would consider trying to make a living from my voice, but I’m not a very good singer lol. I just have the range and not the talent

reminded me of Freddie Mercury
@Steven Criscione it's a beautiful part of the song structure to bring the song so high up from so low down

Ken Turner lives the voice. I love how he knows it's crazy low, and in his eyes you can see he enjoys the humor of it all.
he looks like he's loving every moment of it, it's so entertaining to watch
In the final chord there are 4 octaves between Bass and Tenor - and stil they have a fat sound. that's truely amazing!

Lmao this is kinda funny because you start with actual musical terms then devolve to “fat sound”
Why doesn't anyone talk about the tenor at 4:25 hitting a beautiful Eb5? Man doesn't get enough credit
I can't even hit that in my head voice but my voice is still maturing so I'm assuming my range might increase in a couple years
I mean the bass gets amazingly low but that Eb5 sounds absolutely STUNNING. Literally gave me the chills. Great composition, those four!

4:22 you can see Ken being relieved that note went out well, which just shows how hard it is to hit it even with his talent.
I always assumed that was actually him trying to remain conscious after stressing that vocal so much. 😂
And also when he hits the "high" subharmonic at 3:37.
