  • Gabapentin is an anti-seizure and nerve pain medication, doctors prescribe it as a safe alternative to opioids. But addicts have figured out -- in high doses or mixed with other drugs -- it can mimic an opioid euphoria.

It's relatively safe even in high doses and no It's nothing like an opioid. Don't let a minority of users ruin it for everyone who uses it as prescribed and benefits greatly. Pain patients have been treated badly enough by the government.

No offense, but you are seriously screwing around with your brain chemistry and physical health over time with consequences you know nothing about - until it is too late with most of these chemicals. We play Russian Roulette with substances that we know are dangerous and can end your "short time on earth" really quickly. The mind goes first and then there is no longer real joy in life, only sadness, misery, madness and pain. I once felt as you do (1972) and was able to do pretty well until that philosophy led to 20+ years of addiction to Alcohol, Cocaine and weed at first. I had tried, or used meth, heroin, LSD as well. Getting clean in '99 saved my life and restored me to sanity and I have been working as a M/H addiction treatment counselor in SF for over 20 years now, so I know a little about this. Be careful of your choices in life, especially with these poisons. I was lucky, many of my friends are gone because of that philosophy, the only ones left are the very few of us who got sober. Be safe out there!

The constant throbbing pain made me stay home on the couch a lot, and skip a lot of things I do on a daily basis. Since taking this drug I still feel the throbbing pain but it isn't as intense as it used to be, so I can now get back to a normal life. I do feel a little dizzy, but I can deal with it. I was in a bad ATV accident in 2004, resulting in severe nerve damage to my legs among a list of other issues; was prescribed Gabapentin . I've -admittedly- in the past tried to get high off of them. All it did was make me super sleepy and groggy as hell the next day. No fun in that. Everybody's body is different I suppose. There are a myriad of awful long term effects- I had a nurse friend of mine tell me to smoke some weed instead, b/c it did the same thing and was healthier for me (and it would make me feel an added buzz lol). Never tried the weed, but after experiencing a few of these long term effects (which my Dr. NEVER informed me about) I asked to be taken off the med. I just recently started them up again b/c managing the nerve pain with CBD oil wasn't cutting it anymore. I don't take as high a dose as before b/c those side effects are awful. Before you try Gabapentin, for pain or other reasons, take a minute and see if the cons outweigh the pros. If I didn't REALLY needs these guys, I would find another way to get high. Just my 2 cents !!

I've been prescribed oxycodone, vicodin, dilaudid, morphine, buprenorphine and tramadol. Norco does the trick for me. Tramadol made me grow a huge lump in my neck. Oxy is too strong for me in a work setting. Dilaudid is way too damn strong. Extended release morphine is really nice too. I've been prescribed Norco for years and 5mg to 10mg max is good for me for like next 8 hours or so. For some reason out of nowhere they decided to switch me to buprenorphine until weed is out of my system recently. Like weed hasn't been in my system the past 4 years.

Gabapentin is a weird drug. It doesn't effect everyone the same, many don't feel any of the effects. Usually people use it in small doses but large doses around a gram or so makes you feel like a super weird loopy energy, but also relaxed. Your inhibited in all factors it makes talking and socializing easier and makes you feel more creative. Too much can make you sort of delerious though I used to take upwards of 10 grams of gabapentin a day but wouldn't mix it with anything. When I got into heroin I noticed how dangerous gapapentin can be when MIXED with other CNS depressants. I also moved up to pregabalin, or Lyrica which is a much more potent form of gabapentin in dose and effect. Those are actually scheduled by the DEA. Anyway read a lot about what gabapentinoids can do to brain development, and it's pretty scary. I guess they are finding out gabapentinoids can halt the formations of new neural pathways. It's been a while since I read these study's but to whomever is reading this and takes gabapentin or Lyrica or even phenibut should do some research on what they are taking. Can be pretty dangerous acutely and long term.

Yea in college I found a bunch of bottles of my mom's old painkillers, and one of them was a huge bottle of Lyrica. There were two full bottles of expired 4mg 90 Dilaudid, a bottle of 80 exp perc 30s ( my mom has lupus vasculitis, and various auto immune disorders that cause chronic pain, anyways, in the middle be to our new home I found em in an old bag and I remember when my mom was looking forward r these and she thought she left em in Honduras. For like 3 months of freshman year in college, I was getting addicted to opiates and when they all ran out I was going thru major withdrawal, so I took from her actual stash (which killed the parental trust for life) and now she keeps her opiates locked and shit. The Lyrica helped with wds, but it did leave permanent damage to certain parts of my brain, as I played basketball and certain sudden movements started a domino effect force of certain cranial 'glitches' and lil brain zaps and I would involuntary shake and have a small seizure. This happened for like five years after exposure to that one month I was on a Lyrica bender. I swear, in college, I did a lot to f different drugs and did portraits on all of them. My Lyrica drawings freak me out the most, next to my flakka drawings and my heroin art is beautiful but my parents will never know about the origins to some of my best work.

Na gabapentin doesn't get you high. These idiots don't realize gabapentin to get high sucks ass. You'll feel dizzy, groggy, tired, forgetful, gain weight and just feel like shit. BUT the reason gabapentin is diverted and sold on the streets is because it is really good at getting rid of opioid withdrawal and benzodiazepine withdrawal. So addicts who abuse opioids and or benzos use gabapentin to avoid the withdrawal. But to get high on by itself is ridiculous.

Hi Tammy , I was reading your post and spoke to my doctor who also prescribed me Gabapentin for neuropathy. I fell on ice hurt my back and had a anterior- posterior fusion on my back with full hardware. But my surgeon prescribed me 30 mg oxycodone 4 a day 20 mg OxyContin twice a day and Cymbalta 60 mg & 30mg + 800mg Gabapentin 4 a day which is 3200mg per day which pain management didn’t mention the oxy’s or cymbalta but asked who gave me that high of a dosage of that medication a day. I was told by 4 different doctors who all have practiced over 20 + years. I was told the most is 3600mgs a day and that’s only for facial nerve pain. But you are talking 4800mg a day ? WOW
Put those 6 800mg on a table and then for 7 days. Look at how much powder your putting into your stomach, intestines, blood stream, and to your brain. When you see 42 horse pill’s sitting there it will wake you up. I’m not demanding or dictating your life. But just seeing that I was done everything except 2.0 mg Xanax Extended Release
      3 a day for anxiety.
Your life will come back to you. Trust me ! Nobody cares about you but yourself. Your the only one that make these decisions. No one else. Doctors all they do is push meds that big PHARMA gives them perks to do that. Other then that all they know is hear say.

Left leg in bad shape as well minus osteomyelitis witch was the main reason for amp. Any way Gab. does not make me high and I'm not sure how much pain relief I get. I only take about half of what I'm prescribed, terrified of withdrawal but that is another story. I am also on methadone, I know that kills the burns and stabs that I feel. People will convince themselves that anything is recreational if they are looking for a high. Pregabalin is definitely stronger but then all you feel is drowsy and wobbly. Again, what's so good about that? I've had both several times so I know what they feel like... And yes, I've taken more than the therapeutic dosages but they're just shit recreationally.

Ooh, I just got a flashback of doing these the first time. They felt pretty good, take like 3000mg is pretty much the cap, not saying I didn't try constantly, but you can't really get any more high after that. Felt like way less anxiety, everything feels good. Like soft stuff feels super soft, and you can go on talking. Also makes you hungry and everything tastes good and feels extra good to eat, which is good I struggle with that. The physical part is pretty cool actually, how comfortable it makes everything. If you ever do this drug I highly recommend going to the beach and swimming it feels awesome. Highly don't recommend taking these with opiates. I was too high on loperamide and started eating a bunch of these to sober me up cause they make me more lucid. but later, after pretty much dying from overdose waking up in the hospital, I found out that gabas potentiate opiates, so yeah.

Nonsense. Drug is safe and effective. Amazing anti depressant as well for helping neuropathic pain.

too much gabapentin, for me, causes a ‘sound’ in the middle of my brain that sounds like a distant outboard motor heard from under water, something I’ve told my doctor, and that I don’t like, so I quit taking it in the doses he wanted me to… my next doc re-prescribed it upon my request at 1/3 the daily dose the previous one did and at that dose it mitigates my carpal tunnel pain relatively well, though I still take aleve for its anti-inflamatory effect. taking gabapentin in overdose amounts, I think might drive me nuts.
