  • Marvel as I install a dashboard without showing any installation!
    Swoon as I drone on and on about crappy Chrysler build quality and dubious Mexican craftsmanship!
    Froth as I blather self-congratulatory idiocy about my non-accomplishments!

    Now that is amazing that you installed that new dash board with out having to pull out the entire sub frame assembly just because of a few small screws behind and under the dash. That really has built up my confidence to do this by myself. ☺👍

      Yeah, the sun did the disassembly work for me. It was in so many pieces I literally vacuumed most of the original dash up.

    I can attest to the quality of the LMC truck dash I currently have one from them installed in my 99 Ram V10

    Im Canadian, I have a 98 Cummins. and the dash is perfect in fact never seen a broken one. Idk whats with the American trucks. Good vid!

      The American trucks had Mexican plastic in the dashes.

      It's the lower latitude the sun intensity is much higher down here. Arizona is even worse, and points south.

    Lmc is a actual dash top shell that is why you have to disassemble the truck to install it, my truck has a dash skinz dash cap,lmc dash top shell is a very impressive product.

    LMC made a video and it's pretty complicated and they suggest you do remove the entire dashboard, mine is a 2002 dashboard completely crumbled, thanks Dodge.

    So being as this is a 4 year old video I have a couple questions since I need to do this to my 00 4x4.
    How has the LMC dash held up- they still are not cheap @ $260 for the dash and another $170 for the bezel plus another $5 for the clips.
    Next - was the Amazon one the same thing as far as able to be screwed on or was it just an actual crappy cap that was to go over the carcass/remains of the dash pieces?

      I purchased the LMC one (tan colored) for my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport pickup approximately 3 years ago. It has held up just fine. I live in south Texas so the sun does get brutal here during the summer. It is DEFINITELY better quality than the piece of crap that DaimlerChrysler installed when I bought my pickup brand new. I followed the video that LMC (czcams.com/video/0COhh7RCU50/video.html) has even though it is only approximately 13 minutes long. A few suggestions if you plan to tackle this yourself. 1.) Take your time and take lots of pictures to fall back on in case you forget how something was before you removed it. 2.) Take more pictures. 3.) When it is time to remove the dash, I would have someone to help lift and remove it completely. It's not because it's too heavy but because the remaining plastic frame pieces are so brittle that it will break if it twists and turns while removing it. I had to use JB weld, some wood pieces, and some of the broken plastic to repair where the plastic broke. 4.) Again, take notes and/or pictures of any electrical connection you remove and it will save you from future headaches when trying to remember what went where. If you have worked on cars before and have some mechanical ability, this job isn't too difficult. Good luck!

    • @RamblerReb

      At the time, each dash from LMC was about $250. That's five or six years ago, though.

      The top can be replaced without removing the entire dash.

    • @RamblerReb
      @RamblerReb  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Which parts do you mean? Like the bezel? LMC will have them. If you mean things like the switches, junkyards will be your best bet, or possibly eBay.

    I have a 2000 dodge ram laramie slt i am thinking about buying a carbon fiber or stainless steel trim for my ram dash bezel i think it would look neat.

    • @RamblerReb
      @RamblerReb  Před 11 měsíci +1

      I like the stock look, though I did wind up painting one bezel to match the dash color and it came out looking pretty good, actually. The bezel was used and had a little scuffing and I absolutely declined on moral grounds to buy another can of paint just for that, so I used the paint I bought to spruce up that godawful brittle cupholder I had to replace on it.
