Their position is not that they wouldn’t support Ukraine at all but that European NATO members who have not been living up to their financial or military commitments geopolitically have a more urgent interest in supporting Ukraine. They want the European’s to step up to the plate and meet their contractual treaty commitments rather than have the U.S., which has its own financial problems, bear the majority of the burden of supporting Ukraine. Facially, it is not an unreasonable position.

Of course, as is typical with cowardly Brit statesmen, Johnson did as he was ordered. In following orders, hundreds of thousands of lives were lost in the subsequent conflict. So do many Americans, as polls have shown. On the contrary, the neoconservative ideology which is currently dominant in Washington, which asserts that the President of America is entitled to (as Biden put it last week ) be "running the whole world", is extremist.
