"Just gunna move everything up a whole step" man music theory really IS easy
WHAT IM SAYING!!!
Ben you put a kind of love into your music that feels like the possibilities are truly endless
They are truly endless! Something to look forward to for our whole lives!
I arrived at a similar problem/solution - transpose one step and boom. Serendipity rocks!
Your work is pure inspiration to anyone with a DAW and ears. Nice one!
Lovely! You can also "cheat" in Reaper by turning on Spectral Peaks in Peaks Display Settings, and right click the spectrum and choose "Set range to full spectrum every octave." This lets you SEE melodies!
I also like the ... Scale peaks by square root, and Rectify peaks options.
Oh wow I would never have found this feature very cool
So cool! Taking the line "I can't go too far" completely out of context, I feel like that statement has strangely applied to your experimental approach to art a lot in the past. In old videos, halfway through I was always thinking "Wow, has Been gone too far? This is so weird." But every time you just lean further into it and suddenly everything clicks into place and becomes incredible. The "suddenly" is probably less sudden in your life than in your videos but I hope things continue to click into place there as well!
Love you Ben. Heaviest happy was found! Bury the Light and Mickdustrial have entered the chat.
That song at the end was so nice AND lovely AND nice as well!!! 🎁⭕️🎁
I was liking that dissonance of different keys
Never change, Mams 💜
polytonality is cool
@@kwichmann2777 😅😅🫀🫀🫀
Same, the entry was really harsh but beyond that it was surprisingly consonant and I love a good "wait, what?" moment to kick off a song. Every version of it from the video sounded good though, which really just shows that you can do literally anything and it'll probably be neat.
Its hard for me to take those leaps- crush the whole thing down and treat it as a sample- but the song turned out great because of it! Vibezzz
I was thinking to myself "ah, so they coordinated the keys". Nope, lol!
Every video you make is a gem.
Oh wow, a very interesting concept, and the piece at the end was gorgeous!
It's amazing to see you experiment so wildly with your own tracks and build something out of it
This channel is so cool! So glad I discovered it.
always so inspiring Ben ✨ - amazing video!
It's mesmerizing to listen to and learn from you Ben.
Lov it!! Great Idea! 🙂
Definitely a lookin'-out-the-window joint. Nice work!
Thank you for blessing us with this. Truly nothing matters in music just make stuff sound cool!
I like this art. Is good art.
But seriously, I really enjoy the experimental mindset you have cultivated. It's pretty inspirational to me and has informed some of my own productions. Thanks, Ben
I love the way this video is!
Thanks Ben I always love seeing your creative process. I'm slowly becoming confident enough to create my own art (the hardest part of art is not being too scared to make it... at least for me) and you are an endless source of inspiration.
Hi! It might be hard to make your first art, and it won't be your best, but it will always be your first. And that's so special!
as someone who is also terrified to make things, i gotta say it’s actually so worth it to just make something even if you’re shaking and crying, just make it and don’t let yourself stop ! also , START SMALL !!!! build the ‘make it even though you’re scared’ muscle one thing at a time!!!!
Loved it, thank you
Thanks! Very insightful!
Such a creative riff, very create way to compose a song!! Final product was great!!
Very courageous video!
Super cool idea I’m going to try both of these
This is so fun. I love it. 😂
Thanks Ben!
What a surprise!
I love these small creatures.
Song is SOOOO GOOOOOD.
Magnífico!!
"PROTIP: Make sure the synth and the vocals are in the same key"
Qué preciosidad!
Excellent.
Holy smokes, loved this track. Glad to see this broken down!
CAN YOU SHARE HOW YOU MADE THOSE SPARKLY THINGS I LOVE THAT SOUND PLEASE PLEASE MR. LEVIN PLEASE
Turned out a beautiful track. 🙂
i love ben levin
Powerful
I really liked this song when I listened to the album. The vibe reminded me of a heavier Beck song. I think I may have commented that on the video, I'm not sure.
I feel the same way about my music, where the happy accidents almost always end up being my favorite songs I've made. Trying to create a scenario where you'll have that sort of happy accident again is a cool way of getting the creative energy going. Seeing your creative process in these videos is really cool
LOVE xxx
Inspiring
My favourite track
I don't want to create rifts between people. And I understand the frustration about dealing in a world that only believes in popularity, believe me. But your essay on serendipity and love is amazing as always. I think it's a matter of public understanding but of all the guys out there teaching music, although I also have my reservations, you might be the coolest music teacher online. I don't know if that helps but I don't know any other music teacher who walks away from the 12tones as successfully as you do or develops the most personal satisfaction from it. How about a 10 for this one?
Impressive❤❤❤
I now know what's been missing to thwart my creativity. I need to gets me a purple robe!
reminds me of later Low

The whole album was amazing, but Starting Over really blew me away. Couldn't believe how heavy it was. I had no idea that dirty, nasty sound was distorted acoustic instruments--never would've thought.
Also, Brad mixed/mastered my upcoming album as well, and he did an incredible job. Great guy.
When the video begins as a small DAW tutorial lesson and ends up in life-changing art...
reminds me of NIN... which is my fav band so this is a win
Hineni is stoked
Guitar sound is almost like ring modulation? Very cool.
did you manipulate the “warbles” on “you go too farrrr”? Mayhap you change pitch ever so slightly with an lfo? or perhaps it’s a chorus effect of some sort? it’s interesting, even if it’s pure accapella (that’s actually more interesting in some ways!). Great job as always my friend
humanity rediscovering guitar distortion
Sufjan Stevens is awesome, man
i think Fourth of July is my favorite song of his haha
I love banana duck
You didn't fail to write a Sufjan Stevens song-it was just an Age of Adz song deep down in its heart.
hidden voice track, good idea, restrictions/limitations as creativity booster
I don't know what's real anymore
Is there a link to listen for the second song shown in the video?
Sounds a bit like something off of Baroness later albums
Is that an 808 bass or the classic 808 kick that sounds nothing like a kick?
indie doom OST
So you just need to fuzz up your chamber pop acoustic line to really sell your chugs? Well I'll be
What track is this riff on?
It's called "Starting Over"
@@BenLevin thanks Ben this track and video got me feeling really inspired today.
Next DOOM sounds kinda poppy
aaa a
First (and best!)
