    0:55 Some of those Barracuda SCSI drives have that unique "beep" like noise. I have one that makes a similar noise.

      That;s because it's a server drive. Servers have multiple drives like this

      maybe in some years, when I have more drives. It's getting hard to find old drives for reasonable prices

    Does your drive work? mine seems to be dead. Scsi adapter says that the drive failed to respond to start, and it was negotiating a 8 bit ASYNC bus when the rest of the SCSI chain is a 16 bit ultra160 bus.

    • @Struukbessen
      @Struukbessen  Před 3 lety

      Yes, works fine. Do you use an SCA to SCSI adapter? If yes, it needs to be jumpered correctly.

      @@Struukbessen I’ve got a IcyDock 5.25” SCA to 68pin drive bay that the drive’s connected to. Have tried basically every jumper setting possible on both the drive and the icydock drive bay, drive has a Ultra320 terminator on the connected after the icydock drive bay.
      If I use one of those Chinese 80pin to 68pin adapters the drive doesn’t even spin up, despite the delay or remote start jumper being open.
      I’m starting to think it’s had a PCB failure. Bugger. I’ll let the seller know…
      Edit: the drive spins up and initialises as normal, Activity LED goes out once it’s finished initialising, only making a few very quick blinks when the SCSI controller tries to talk to it, but that’s it. It even sounds like it’s doing some self diagnostics while it’s waiting for commands, kinda sounds like a steam train chugging lol.

      @@thegeforce6625 With a Chinese 80pin to 68pin adapter I use no jumper on the HDD and only one jumper on the adapter (ID1) and the drive works fine and even spins up with only power cable connected.

      @@Struukbessen mine does that too, mechanically seems fine but falls flat on its face once the SCSI controller starts trying to talk to it. Odd.

      It's a server drive, but designed and made by Fujitsu. After Toshiba acquired the HDD branch of Fujitsu, they produced some HDDs with their technology.
