hi, i'm from Liverpool (another irish city basically) and i like the majority of scousers have irish ancestry, i went to ireland a lot during my childhood and i fell in love with ireland at 6 years old and i hope one day to return. i have discovered that my irish ancestry is from north munster :D i am so excited to learn more about my irish history.
Ciarraighe (Kerry) is where my forefathers O`Shee came from, and from Gaillimh (Galway) were my ancestors O'Fallon. Both migrated to the Basque Country after the cromwelian period, and then younger family members saw service in the Caribbean and the Phillippines (spanish Real Armada). Finally both family branches met in South America where they intermarried between them and also with my basque family branch (multiple unions). Thus Eire, the Basque Country and southern S.America are closely intertwined in my family tree. With my children we will visit Killarney, Cork, Galway and Kilkenny as soon as Covid permits us...
I'm half Irish half Samoan I love Munster.
Pro trick : watch series on Kaldrostream. I've been using it for watching lots of of movies lately.
@Salvador Beau yea, been watching on Kaldrostream for months myself :)
Sadly the great O'Sullivan clan was devastated by Oliver Cromwell. We lost a lot battles and many wars, but between the March of The O'Sullivans and the hideous losses at Kinsale, we are but a shadow of our former selves. Not much left of the house of Dunboye My father was born and raised in Castletown Bere, co Cork, my mom was from Mt Mellick, co Leois . Long passed now I am a yank as are my brothers and sisters. They never lost their love of Ireland or the love and respect for the Leary family that help raise my dad. Good people the Irish. Beautiful place.
My great great grandmother was a Sullivan, sad to hear what happened to them.
My 2nd Great Grandfather was Danieleen O' Sullivan Croumhane, born Abt 1823. Great video!!
My grandmother was a O'Sullivan.
I love Munster. Such a beautiful landscape.
Your ma loves the Munster
@@bobsmith3291 lol probably.
Nice to see my name, MacNamara, mentioned in the annals of County Clare. I would love to visit there, and learn more.
The MacNamaras, Clancys, Hickeys, Slatterys stuck together when they made their way across the USA to Chicago. Is mise Ă Slattarra.
I have McNamara's in my mothers side of my family too

The Mc Carthys high kings of munster proud of my family ancestors history and so proud to be Irish and come from such a jewel of a country
Enemy clan! Haha jk we are both of the EĂłganachta
Clann Cholmain
I'm O MaolagĂĄin my family's kingdom was Tir Mac Carthian same as Mc Carthy
My brother-in-law's grandfather was Jeremiah McCarthy/MacCarthy. I believe Jeremiah was born in Hoboken/Hudson, NJ. but i don't know who HIS father was. (Clue? Jeremiah and his wife Alice named their only son; John Joseph McCarthy, b in NY in 1920) Jeremiah married Alice Costine. I found them living with Alice's family w/3yr old John, but could never find Jeremiah again. Any help would be appreciated.
I too am a McCarthy.
I am going to Ireland with my daughter in March. I am so excited. On ancestry, I traced some of my ancestors to Munster. Their surname was Cross. I wish I could find out more about where they lived and worked. I want to spread some of my mother's ashes there.
I have ancient roots in Ireland, the family name of Ryan. Sadly, this is all I know. I am 1/4 irish.
Thanks for this glimpse into my family past, a starting point for my research.
I am also a Ryan, on my father's side. My DNA match puts me with 27% from NW Munster
@@alisonsimms7344 my son had his DNA analyzed and I can find out my Irish roots from his DNA because his father's side of the family has no Irish roots - so anything that comes up from my son is from my side of the family....I have to ask him! Then I will know at least where in Ireland. I thought my grandmother said something about County Cork.
@@mamaboocee Ryan is popular in about twenty counties from the high side of the middle of IRELAND heading south so good luck Limerick has a lot đźđȘđđźđȘ
Mamaboocee:
Check out Sean Ryan the whistler. Top notch.
Best wishes.
Happy listening.
@johntuohy1867 thanks! Will do! đ
My family comes from county Cork, Waterford, Roscommon, and Dublin
Thanks for the information that provided information on the many clans that were part of my family name, Callahan, O'Callaghan in Munster. I appreciate any light shined on my family history.
My family is Callahan, Sullivan, Barry, O'Brien, Dalton, Cavanaugh. I did my dna... says I'm 70% Munster Ireland. I guess my family didn't venture outside Munster families...ha!
Callahan was King in 460's. The Spanish moved the Callahan clan west...something called Callahan Hills. Armenians (Noah's ark landed in Armenia; Mother Mary's grandmother Sarah was Armenian apparently) were forced out/being killed so many tribes went to Ireland.
The son of the chief of the O'Callaghan clan was killed at the battle of Lixnaw in 1568 they numbered about 107 fighters.
Australian here. Great Grandmother was from Killarney.
My fourth great grandma was Annie OâMeara, sometimes spelled OâMara, her father John OâMeara from somewhere in Tipperary. Iâm lost at this spot in my searches
A proud Mahoney here (originally OâMahony)
Me too
another great video very informative , thanks for the work you bring to us
I come from McCarthy but also O'Hehir which interests me because there's scarce information on Hehir compared to so many other Irish names. Also a distant relative of Niall of the nine hostages but so are like 3 million other people
I'm of the Daniels and Fitzgerald lines from the Munster area.
These videos are wonderful, btw.
Go raibh maith agaibh!
New to the channel but if you haven't already could you possibly do the history of the Gaels in Scotland? I would be curious to learn more about the Dal Raeda and if any Scottish clans can trace their roots to Irish families.
Tons of them can
The O'Hurley clan ( OhUrthuile) is DalCassian from eastern Ireland, but moved into Munster.
Thank you so much, very interesting!
My second great-grandmother is Honora O'leary, which is funny after I learning of "Hostage Island" because from what I'm getting from my genealogy research, I'm Danish/German and Welsh/Irish. All of my ancestors seem to have found a mate amongst their enemies, we couldn't have hated each other too much Ha Ha!
Iâm OâLeary and from my ancestry test Iâm 75% Irish 12% Norwegian and 8% Iberian - The rest Englishđ
My 3x got grandmother was honorah O'Leary nee Crowley from the same place , maybe we're related , I also got 13% Scandinavia
That female name still runs in our family on the O'Leary side. My dad's family was from the Daniel Michael branch that traces ancestors far and wide - Columbia to Australia. From what I can tell, it was a naming tradition for centuries, maybe eons, in the O'Leary clan and I once came across a list of the 'Donals'...Donal of the Tides, Donal of Fair Hair, etc., even a Donal of the Boils! Apparently we carry the genes for hemachromatosis, a problem with iron absorption found mostly in men, and those who suffer from it do get boils. This would make sense in a population highly dependent on iron-rich meat from cattle raising and our family was renowned for it, as the name denotes.
My grandfather is was born in Dublin, Hayes was his last name, derived from O'Hada, O'Hara, O'Hay
I am part Native American and the predominant remainder Irish from the Mac Kerley's of northern Munster around the southern bank of the river Shannon, that's as far as I got on my own, now to get serious and call in some help.l'd like to know to what Clann we were affiliated, get some good ol' "rediscovered family" vibe communication going on, then nothing left but to make it happen! To think that I cared and knew little about my Gaelic blood and the rich, strong culture estranged from me till my life changing awakening due to Conan comics and even more awesome Cu Chullain, due to my first album from the Greatest Rock Band to come out of Ireland- THIN LIZZY! due to the brilliant Celtic cover art from Ireland's amazing Jim Fitzpatrick! I had become aware. A gift I had just begun to unwrap. And I love the very cool and revealing cultural similarities between the American original and the transplanted Celt, turning him from "Indian" hunter to being responsible for a good percentage of Native American mixed bloods. No good for drinking though.
Thanks for the channel,
Sinn Fein! Walter Kerley.
Thanks very interesting.
My DNA says I come from Munster Ireland, thanks for this video.
Yes DNA brings us back to our far away home of Ireland, Scotland, Wales , England .

My great grandfather was called âCorkâ I know this is where he came from to England, sadly I can't trace him because he took this name when he left Ireland. đą
McCarty here.. ancestry dna said Munster! awesome
Somewhere in Carlow, Ireland there might be a grave with my name on it.
Apparently I died in 1730 . Much fraternization has occurred since. Even without internet . Which they never could have anticipated. Victoria really shook up the gene pool and then stirred. Maternal half is French/ Welsh grandparents.
My grandad was an irish electrician, sean deleer
My Dad was an electrician too ! , and a Brady from Cork !

Could you do a similar video on County Monahan. Iâm specifically interested in the Cush family near Emyvale. Loch Ern?
Irish families are knowns as septs not clans. Clans are of the Scottish
One Irish word for family is 'clann'. It's still in use today. You're correct that they were also called septs, among other things.
Iâm an OâKeefe and a Brennan, and I also have Cravens and Cullens in my ancestry. My immediate family is from County Wexford though.
Last name is METCALF âŠ. My ancestors came from Munster , Ireland đźđȘ Iâm 62% Irish âïž đ

Many Armenians were being persecuted and went to Ireland. (Noah's arc landed in Armenia.) Could the darker Irish be Armenians?
My grandfather father's side is Irish DNA however we carry a British last name (Yates) a man by the name of Ambrose Nicholas Yates (Cramer) which was a Irishman held the last name of a man that wasn't his father so even though i'm a black man I have DNA of the Cramer's which i always wondered even though we carry the wrong last name would or does the Cramer's accept us as their own?

I wish I could read the handwriting in my grandmothers album. He father was the first generation born in America.

Did he say rebel how can someone be a rebel in their home land?resisting tyranny doesn't make someone a rebel.
What about The Colemanâs and Leahyâs
Hello thank you! Any information on the Hanley name in Ireland?đ
There is a very famous story of a poor girl called Ellen Hanley. She was known as the Colleen BĂĄn. Murdered in 1819. She was buried in killimer in co. Clare and was from limerick herself. You should be able to find her story online
Any information on the okeefe? My mother is okeefe. Her grand parents migrated to the states. We did our dna test and it showed me being 55% Irish. With my dna matching with people in cork, munster. Any information would help!
Fermoy co cork
Had many a Okeefe beer here in Canada cheers

Father was a Gunning , which says a lot .
We have a castle called castle Connell , itâs actually supposed to be castle gunning
55% Irish my roots are McGowan Tucker Corbett and OâBrien. County Limerick, Clare and Donegal
Where were the Carrolls in Ireland
Very old family around Tipp/Offaly.
How many americans are watching this video?
I'am friend
It pretty much lines up with what Ancestry says about my grandfather's family(Donahue)but spreads out a bit from Central Cork to the south and east. Then again you're talking ancient times and Ancestry is talking basically the last few centuries. So people move around more in later times with all the problems in the 19th century especially.
O'Sullivans are from Kerry,right?
A lot of O Sullivans in West Cork
Iâm a Carroll (originally OâCarroll) with ancestry in MunsterâŠ.. I THINK originally in TipperaryâŠ.. my 3x great grandparents moved from Ireland sometime before my 2x was born and moved to Brighton and died there of old age, 3x grandma was from Waterford (and was a Keogh) but Iâm not 100% sure where her husband was from, only 1 census can be properly read and it says Kerry, one just says Ireland and the other isnât properly readable
my clans and germany blood mixes is me
I'm Irish American, and my son's mother is German, as in, originally from Germany.
So it's nice to see our mix around places â
Do you have any knowledge on the Flynns or O'Flynn family ?
Try Wexford and Waterford.
McMahon here
Where are the Maloneyâs
Tons in Bantry and surrounds in County Cork. South west.
My DNA says I come from Munster and Cork Ireland. My last name is Lowrey so i guess its from the O'Leary?
Brien from Cashel
The Wild Gaels of the mountains of Munster were the McCarthyâs the OâSullivans, the OâDonahues, and the Moriartys (OâMuircheartaigh). OâBriens came much later than those primordial clans. Definitely still worth a mention seeing as their namesake is Brian BorĂș⊠but they themselves descend from those earlier clans that the Normans called âthe Wild Gaels.â
O Brien here also Mc Caffrey,
Any idea where the name McGrath came from?
It's a Tipperary name.
@@cormacbrowne9571 IT IS IN iRISH "MAC RAITH" AND IS A BRANCH OF THE O'SULLIVANS.
Does anyone have knowledge of the surname ONeal or ONeill ?
I think they were main kings up North, in Ulster. There's some great videos out to study that history. It's fascinating.
Very powerful clan in late 16th century.
My last name is Rohan. I know there are alot of Rohans in kerry, I believe my fathers side are from dingle. Do you have any information about any Rohans? It isn't that popular as other surnames.
Riders of Rohan! :D
My mother (Rohan from Ballyduff, Cloghane, West Kerry) told me that the Rohans were two brothers, one of whom emigrated to Cork and the other to Kerry from Brittany and were originally 'de Rohan'
... the family story (unverified) is that they were French refugees that fled the 1789 revolution.
Rohan is one of the 30 French noble names (i.e Cardinal de Rohan, Marie Antoinette & the affair of the diamond necklace) and the Rohans were Dukes of Brittany based around the town of Rohan, Morbihan, Brittany.
... so not originally Irish ...but like the Fitzgeralds have become more Irish than the Irish themselves!
@@michaeldunne9882 Marie Antoinette was supposed to flee to Dingle and passage was arranged but she believed she wouldn't be touched so stayed on in France.
O'Brien, Purcell and Bourke from Thurles

It's weird because my family descended from the O'Heffernan or Ifernan clan in Corofin. yet we're only about 1% Irish
