- Lush's final gig. Sad really, you get the impression the comeback has ended a little too soon. Hopefully this will do until someone uploads a video with better quality. You have no idea how hard it was to hold a camera phone up for 90 minutes straight - sorry if it's shaky or bad quality!
- Hudba
Dude, you struggled to hold up a camera phone for 90 minutes when you could have enjoyed the show in more comfort by not doing so and you're apologizing to those of us who did not?
Dude, seriously, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!!!
Are you thanking this amateur for his half-baked piece of shit. Someone had to do it. I mean the woman are so fucking pretty.
What about a Tripod and an adapter that allows you to mount your camera phone on the tripod.
@@DAVIDGREGORYKERR security is totally going to allow that inside a venue ... not
Miki was the excellent singer and frontwoman but it was Emma who gave the band their distinctive sound with her melodic guitar skills.
They should have recorded this last fantastic show for a DVD.
Well, you broke it down really well. I'm in 100% agreement with you. A CD live of their last show, if promoted right, would've been a hit. I think that their old fans like us would've cherished it, appreciated it and loved it. Furthermore I'm 100% they would've gained new fans as well. I missed their concert in Cincinnati Ohio in the 80's with Ride another favorite of mine. I couldn't get out of a Family Dinner and when I got there @ 10pm everyone was leaving, because it was a week night and the concerts started earlier and like wise ended earlier. That hurts me when I think about a missed opportunity. This music is Truly Beautiful and Dreamy in my opinion
Yeah I was at the 2016 tour and they sounded incredible on the stage. I would love to have a proper soundboard live recording.
Thank you so much for posting the entire show, complete with
Miki’s comments between songs. I got to see them seven times this year, including
their first show in 20 years at the Oslo in Hackney (it was amazing) but I
missed this last-ever show. You may be the only one who managed to capture the
entire show. I’ll be watching this video years from now, thanks again.
Thanks! As luck would have it, the two shows I managed to see this year were their first at the Oslo (happened on the one day of the year I was in London on business!) and what became their last in Manchester! I'm pretty sure I saw a tripod up on the balcony, so I'm hoping that someone else managed to take a more professional video, but if not, then this will always be here :-)
Paul - you're apologizing? Stop - I think we're all so grateful to have this! Thank you!!
And yes, I absolutely agree that the comeback has ended too soon... I've been away from the music scene for a while (4-5 years) and when I learned Lush had a comeback, I was like - YAY! then I learned it was over, and - crushed... but we got a WONDERFUL new EP and some more great live performances (thanks to dedicated people like you). Seriously, thanks again! :)
Paul thank you for your half-baked piece of shit.
@@herbertrichard614 oh my god what’s your issue. He is the only reason we got to see this great last show and your annoyed it’s not amazing quality. Just be thankful or don’t say anything at all
Yes. Thank You!
I was at this show, and then managed to talk my way backstage into the afterparty, believe it or not! I was with another fan and we both tried. I was absolutely determined and just lied through my teeth without shame - saying I was with management, and "Do you want me to call Miki?" The security guard nodded me in. I couldn't believe it. Miki and Emma did not exchange any words. Emma stood in one corner of the room with some people, and Miki in the other. They didn't speak onstage either, or look at each other - I was stood in the front row. Great show - you can hear that - but I was a bit heartbroken to be honest, and hurt by Phil's absence. He's a good lad and used to be quite chatty on Twitter. I had a dream I saw them play in New York and was tempted to fly over. I'm glad I didn't in the end, because I read later that Miki punched Phil before they got onstage. The stand-in bass player (from Modern English) did a great job. When I told him, his eyes lit up. I'm sure he felt under pressure, but he need not have worried. I spoke to Miki but not Emma, unfortunately. I told Miki that since they were done, I was going to start a Lush cover band - but quipped she'd have to audition like everybody else, with a red wig - which she found amusing. Got a selfie with her too and told her the truth of it: that she'd been a massive influence on my teenage brain because I didn't know people could be like her. Wasn't she such a whirlwind? Shy and sharp-edged, so many of us were besotted with her. Emma is a great girl. She used to write lovely, personal emails to her fans for years when she was in Sing-Sing with Lisa O'Neil (I don't mean a mailing list; I mean individual correspondence! This was, gosh, around the Madame Sing-Sing EP, for hardcore fans who remember. That must have been released around Christmas 2001 or the year after; the band website had little snowflakes falling. She'd talk about her life, and little things she was doing. I don't know how we got onto it, but she told me she was single, and the obvious reply was returned by me: Single Girl! I obviously didn't say, but thought: "Me! Pick me!" Who does that, though? - actually writing proper letters back to fans? I will love her forever for that alone. Emma was the quiet power behind the success of Lush. As you can tell, their music really affected my life and I'm glad they existed.
This is incredible. Thank you!
Thanks for doing this for all Lush fans. I was happy to see them here in Miami back in ‘93 @ Lollapoluza a couple of days before Hurricane Andrew hit, what a treat it was, I never though they would have come here otherwise.
Thanks for recording it. Never have the opportunity to see them live, miss them in the lollapalooza by a year. Greetings from Florida 😎🤘
This is awesome, thanks for this!
I saw these at glasto long time ago and couldn't make the rescheduled Manchester show but wish I had now. Didn't realise it was their last hurrah. anyway spot on for recording and uploading it. much appreciated!!
So thankful for your hard work - well done!!
Holy Shit! They preformed Stray and then right into Nothing Natural! Amazing! Love this! One of the best album openers ever! Been begging for them to do this for months! Thanks for the upload! Great job! 1:11:54
yeah, I love those songs
I used to play spooky every night before I go to sleep back in the 90s. It's still one of my favorite albums of all time.
Thanks so much, I was lucky enough to be there too.
Such a travesty that they have brought an end to such a successful comeback. the E.P. itself shows that they sill "Have It" Have sooooo much more to give! I was fortunate enough to see them back in 96 and again in 2016. Even more fortunate to meet Miki at both shows! Miki, Lush you are the best......hopefully you will continue
Whole thing was great! But Sweetness and Light I think really stole the show! That song has always been so amazing and they really knocked it out of the park on this! Just awesome. 👏👏👏 Thanks for posting.
Really good job PAUL , hat off,, I missed them in the south of France (shame!!!) but their comeback proved how GREAT they still are
Nice one. Thanks for this. Just saw Miki here in Belfast on her book tour, which was fab.
The recorder shouldn't be so hard on himself. He did an *amazing* job capturing this show. Much appreciated!
Thank you for this concert. I did not manage to see them during this tour, they sadly didn't passed by Paris. So I just watched two or three concerts here on youtube. Now that their tour is over, I must admit that something was lacking with the drums: this guy from Elastika is far from bad, but there's a dreamy-floating-precise quality that Chris had that is sorely missed. Some of the flying grace / magic of their music isn't hundred percent here. But I still hope they can write new songs and find a combo drum and bass that will fit them.
Thank you for this half-baked piece of shit video. Oh but the women in the band are so pretty we all had to have one more ogle. Thanks you fucking plebe.
I was really looking forward to some more new material... maybe there will be another twist to this story yet (hopefully!).. grateful I got to see them in the roundhouse. Thanks for posting this!
I'd like to think so, but I'm not so sure (did you see the rumour of what happened, in the last Popbitch magazine?) But they were and are an amazing band, and I just hope they know that they're still loved :-)
what was the rumour? I personally don't think they will get back together.
I saw them the previous September in L.A. and it was nearly flawless. It makes me so sad to think we may never have the privledge of seeing Lush perform again, but I'm always going to hold out hope that they will reconsider and come back to us!!!
*Really* unlikely, I'm afraid. They didn't split on good terms to begin with, and Miki's new book has infuriated both Emma and Phil. There's a better chance of The Smiths reuniting than Lush.

Amazing tour
thanks Paul for that. Good quality audio and video.
thanks again.
No problem - I'm just glad people like it :-) The audio isn't fantastic, but to be honest, something seemed a bit amiss at the venue. Was really harsh sounding (to me) and my ears were ringing for almost 2 days afterwards!
Paul Townend Paul I agree the sound quality at the venue was a bit off, great that you got this for us though
Glad I'm not the only one who thought the sound was a little off. To me the bass drum seemed to loud and maybe the snare too.
Amazing bands like lush make life worth living! ❤️🇬🇧
I've been on a Lush kick lately, and I'm glad to have seen this footage, and yet with all the great songs they played, especially during the encores, I couldn't help but feel sadness that Lush was indeed over. Yes, I would like to hope that Emma and Miki would get back together again. Such great music from this band I discovered when someone gave me the Spooky cassette, who said they were rubbish and was going to throw it in the trash, but I took it and immediately fell in love with their wall of sounds filled with power and raw emotion and killer grooves like Laura and Superblast! that rocked with much force! If only I had seen them with Chris in the 90's or during their short-lived reunion which now seems like an eternity ago.
Any idea of Laura and Superblast appear on this set? Need the track listing.
Sadly, I never did get a chance to see Lush perform live. I wish they would release a DVD of one of their early concerts plus all of their music videos.
Also from me muchas gracias for taking the awesome effort of recording this, great sound. I love it they played so much of their older stuff, the gorgeous Etherial (40:07) from their first EP. And For Love (49:00): Miki could also write great songs.
I'd love to know the set listing. Every track.
I attended Lush's show in Boston on 15 Sep 2016. I remember waiting in line to be let into the club and seeing Miki cross the street right in front of me with a shopping bag from a nearby women's fashion store. Ten minutes later, Emma crossed the street in the same spot sporting a shopping bag from the same store. And I remember thinking to myself that it was strange that they were not together. On stage Emma refused to be mic'ed for vocals and never came within 20 feet of Miki the entire show except on a couple of occasions to change her guitar. It was a great show but there were obvious signs that the band was not getting along.
The music goes on...3 of the 4 band members from this show (minus Emma) have joined Moose to form the band Piroshka. Check out their debut album, Brickbat...it's really good!
Only 2 of 4. Miki and Justin.
@@ald7248 I said 3 of 4 members from THIS show...bassist Michael Conroy who replaced Phil King for this final show is also in Piroshka.
I love this band. Saw them live here in Portland on this tour.. Wish they were still around as this last album was fantastic
I was there as well right up front, in-between The Girls. [ Got a good amount of footage of that]
the problem is not the quality of the video that today's cell phones do miracles, unfortunately the problem are the people who talk no stop (but why dick they go to the concerts) ...and many thanks that anyway the LUSH are immortal
Superb Last !!!
Good job with the video thanks!
thank you thank you just found out by accident this happened, love you , at least I can pretend I was there
I'd bet that Miki's visa issues in the USA arising from her undisclosed DUI offenses are what ultimately killed the reunion. The financial success of the tour was dependent upon pre-negotiated fees from Coachella. When Miki's visa issues arose, Lush wound up surrendering most of that due to the missed shows. All downhill after that I'd expect.
The audio sounds great mate. You may have the only full live recording of the last ever Lush show. You could probably run it through some video editing software to stabilize it's fine for me. Thanks for recording this.
Such a great 90’s band. Met Miki at The Venue in New Cross back in the early 90’s after the gig when Blur were 3rd on the bill 😷
They will be back - they are too nice and social to stay away - Thank God
Speed Racer i am so waiting
I'm still waiting (sniff-sniff) :-/
I don't think they'll be back. I read an interview w/ Miki in Feb. 2023 where she said that the band hasn't spoken at all since the late-2016 breakup and that both Emma and Phil are very angry at her about her new book discussing the band. It's also become clear that Miki and Emma have had long-standing issues that pre-date the band's 1996 demise.
49:28 >>>>> ''For Love" this songs reminds 90's era when everything get easy
This Michael Conroy, of Modern English, did a good job filling in for phil...I say give it a year, and they will be itching to get back in the studio again. All these months of touring had to be a stimulus for more creativity in the future...They are not even in their fifties yet.
He was great - not a single duff note to my untrained ear! As I said to someone else, there was a rumour in the last Popbitch magazine about why Phil left... I'm not sure if they'll come back again. I'd love it if they did, though - just an amazing band.
If you don't mind me asking, what exactly was the rumor/reason Phil left? Haven't been able to track down any information. I hope they reconsider in three years time or so to do this once more. Lucky enough to see them live 3 times this year.
George Wolynetz "When Lush's bassist left the recently reformed band, the statement they put out was curiously vague, but is there any truth to the rumour that he walked after getting smacked in the face after an argument with a bandmate?"
Thanks Paul. That's a real shame then if that's the case.
SO good and his tone is so different.
Class! just before "sweetness and light" someone shouts out " I used to fancy you!" . I would have shouted back " I still do!"
I’m glad I got to see them back in 1994 and even got to shake Miki’s hand.
EMMA HOT AF...to bad no good auto fucos resolution back then. This is Golden.
😢
15:07 sad to think that might have been the last time that superb song will ever be played live...
That’s my favorite one of Lush… sad too
I like Piroshka, but maybe it would have been better for Miki to replace Emma with Moose and keep the Lush name and just keep on releasing new music as Lush. Three-quarters of Piroshka played this last Lush gig after all.
In the past several years there has been concern about people not holding their cameras up and all to film shows, etc. The downside of that is that we won’t have any footage of shows! Glad at least a few people at shows do! Lol
I normally only record favourite songs, but this was a special show - I knew it was probably their final gig, so wanted to capture it for posterity!
Cheers! I saw them in Camden. I wonder why Phil bailed. I hate to say it, but Emma and Miki are Lush - they should have carried on with another bassist, honestly. Fingers crossed, huh. Hell, Emma should form a supergroup with Miki and Lisa O'Neill.
I captured full audio with a decent audio set up....maybe someone can splice that onto this film. I shot a few clips, but wanted to enjoy the show.
If no one else has a better video, I'm happy to do this. I'm out of the country until December 20th, but send me a link and i'll sort it out after then. Many thanks!
Paul Townend My audio is currently being mastered (in Sweden by a friend). Will send on when I get it back. AT853s Mics > Sound Professionals Battery Box > Sony M10 Recorder
what happened to this endeavor? 👀
great audio and video.........the band is a little off their game, but it 's still great!!!
I never really understood why this band didn't achieve more mainstream success. It would seem they had all the essential elements in place. I loved their sound and songwriting style. I am grateful that it is captured on recording. It may not be the perfect vision as far as the artist's standards go but I still enjoy it greatly.
I think they could have but Chris Acland died and from what I've read the band was having problems getting along towards the end as well.
@@wlouisharris That shouldn't have mattered. The main thrust of the band was the Vocals and the Guitars. Great Drummers are a dime a dozen. As far as I could tell, you could remove them from the mix completely and still have the basic sound. I realize that bands are also fragile things and chemistry is crucial but when I hear this band it's the Vocals and Guitars that stand out.
@@horowizard Just from interviews I've read Mikki and Chris were very close and it really devastated the whole group. I think the band was already on shaky terms in getting along and this broke the camels back - just my speculation. I saw Chris live with them a few times he was an amazing drummer, but yah, you can replace drummers. There's a reason that didn't play Star Sign on this tour I think - listen to the drums on that song.
@@horowizard I think Acland and Mikki were real tight from some interviews I read. I think they were already infighting and Chris' death pushed them off the edge. Yes, you can find another drummer but listen to Starlust. I saw Chris live with Lush a few times. He was amazing. There's a reason they didn't play Starlust on this tour - no one can play it like Chris.
@@wlouisharris it wasn't necessarily fighting iirc, Emma was literally about to quit which would've possibly broken them up anyway, as she was kinda primary songwriter and Miki apparently lacked the confidence (though, as we see with Prioshka, maybe she would've just regrouped then)
now, the REUNION breakup was apparently because of fighting...
Lush should forget Philip King and find another bass player and keep it moving. Remember, Phil King was a REPLACEMENT for the ORIGINAL bass player, so it's not like they don't have the experience. Reform with new ideas and put out music that you like and your fans love, Lush.
Phil Hayes Phil was a great player and was with them since spooky. He went back to The Jesus and Mary Chain since they decided to tour again and do another album.
Got to see them play an unreal set in Vancouver. I'm happy if it is done now.
+Duke Togo - Pitchokey666 Phil King had already left the J&MC by the time the reunion happened - and he didn't tour with them in 2017. Look - it was great that Lush re-united for even this short time. I saw their show in Boston (one of the last with Phil King) and it was a good show - but it was obvious that Emma and Phil were not enjoying themselves at all. Not even Miki could cover that up.
@@ald7248 Maybe a big motivation for reuniting was money - who knows. They sure sounded great. They proved they could do it again with Chris - sure they could do it without Phil. I saw Pinback a few years ago and talked to Zach briefly and in that brief conversation I could really tell years of touring and playing bars had worn on him. Maybe Lush didn't want to go back to that lifestyle. Maybe they will take another crack. I do know this - Mikki needs Emma and Emma needs Nikki - they have great chemistry.
@@wlouisharris You seen what Miki has been doing with Piroshka? Some good stuff in there, I hope they keep it going. Another album was planned some time this year I think
ВОСТОРГ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The entire show sounds like a live album. It's not that shaky
If you miss LUSH what about ORIGEN.
why did Phil have to quit during the end of this last tour?
because he's an arsehole
Musicians 🤫
Miki punched him in the face, apparently.
Good 🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
I was so bummed when they ended their comeback so early on. The Out Of Control E.P. was as good as anything they did back in the day. They obviously still had that Lush magic. Their concerts still sounded amazing. Why did they end so soon?I was looking for a new full album release, but I guess it wasn't meant to be.
Shame that LUSH had to close in 2021 because of problems in the hospitality industry and Human Malware.
Amazing show, terrible audience
They deserved better
I was shocked when the house lights came up and you saw the audience. The dumped plastic cups were disgusting. Not the same sort of audience they had back in the 90s....
Is this your first Manchester show? 😆😆
The penultimate gig was miles better
I feel sorry for Miki because it seemed she was really enjoying having Lush up and going again and was MVP of the tour. She may have wanted to keep the band active for another recording. Phil & the band obvs came to some major disagreement ($$$ ? ) for him to quit during the tour like that. So heartbroken they never made it down to Oz & NZ.
+Jules5 I saw them in Boston and I was perhaps 10 meters from Miki during the performance. Miki did a good job of feigning enthusiasm - but those smiles she was giving us never reached her own eyes. Emma was exhausted and wouldn't even allow herself to be mic'ed for vocals. They were not enjoying themselves :-(
Aw that's real shame. was the Boston show close to around the time Phil split? Maybe all that shit was coming to a head - and before Emma smacked hit him. Emma seems to by mic'd up and singing just fine from what I can see of the Boston show (on youtube)
@@Jules5 Emma smacked no-one. Do the maths and you'll work out who did.
@@nigelg7476 🤣
While I love Lush and wish I could have seen this, the sound quality is horrid. Bummer.
Seems a lot of people are blaming Phil for the disintegration of the comeback/reunion... seems to me that's the wrong person(s) to be looking at, especially since they managed to find a very competent replacement for him on short notice. There's recent interviews from Miki where she has stated that Emma & she just weren't getting along at all as band-mates and musical/song-writing/business partners by the end of this tour, and that she and Emma haven't really communicated with each other at all since. Don't know what it was that's gone wrong between them, but Miki stated that they'd have to sort out and fix their interpersonal problems before there'd be any chance of another Lush reunion. I'm inclined to believe her on that.
On the other hand, fortunately Miki's out there with a new group (Piroshka, I think - somebody correct me if I'm wrong) making new music, so something's continuing on from here.
By your first sentence, I can assure you, you know nothing of what happened , and your assumptions/conclusions regarding evetyhting else are flawed, I'm afraid.
Adam Sirius And I should take your word? Do you know anything, or are you just being an asshole?
Actually, I care just enough to post on this zombie thread, but I don't really care about your answer.
Bye now.
awesome, great job, you get an "A"
Lush were great in the 90s. Coming back two decades later, not so much. I'll remember them for what they were.
2 years have flown by! A great gig by a great band. Desire Lines never sounded better. Absolutely no need to split due to a fuck knuckle bassist that wasn't an original member anyway. Megan the security guard stage left was lovely as well ;)
