And they talk about Blur, their bassist was one of their reasons for Ladykillers. There was another name for inspiration, but the main inspiration was Kiedis. Even the video makes direct references
@@petercook360 I'm reading Miki's autobiography at present and haven't got that part of the book describing this time but I did read/hear from another source "Blondie" was Matt Sharp.
I caught Lush headlining (with Weezer opening) in the Summer of ‘94 at a tiny club (Fastlanes II) in Asbury Park, Nj. Lush was everything I hoped for. Way better than seeing them at Lalapalooza in ‘92. Loved that! A spectacular night of herb smoke in the air to go along with their heavy use of dub and effects. Great band.
@@duanescot My friend. I saw this at Montage Mountain in Scranton, PA. 4 carloads of recently graduated High Schoolers who drove in from Jersey. So many highlights including Soundgarden playing the then recently banned “Cop killer” from Body Count and Lush playing “For Love” & “De-luxe”. Absolutely one of the great highlights of my teenage years
@@orthodoxreuben1974 Yeah it was great wasnt it? Body Count ripped and I remember the massive mosh pit on the greens in Mountain View during Ministries set, well, there was nothing green left, just a whole lot of dirt after that :) ... take care!!
The best interviews of Lush ever here. I remember seeing Deluxe with friends 4 the first time on 120 and - that's really the it moment. Can't describe how good it was and is.
The 80's and 90's were the last good decades for great music. Opening up a SPIN or Alternative Press magazine and checking out new indie bands or articles about older bands like The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Pixies or your favorite band I didn't mention.
I disagree. Gala, Spooky, and Split were all 3 really great, but you could tell Split was going to be the last great album because Lovelife was where things really went downhill.
Ahh...The 1990's at First Avenue in Minneapolis. They were on tour for Split. Lush with Robyn Hitchcock... good times... Gala and Spooky still sound amazing to me.. I really like Out of control, a song they made in 2016.. Miki & Emma patch things up... life's too short..
This is from late in the band's career. I am not a fan of 1996's "Lovelife" at all, but "Gala" (or the "Scar" LP in the U.K.) and "Spooky" are real classic albums. "Split" is also fine in parts, but just not quite on the same level as the first two. Lush was best when it was in full dreampop/shoegaze mode and had the same producer as the Cocteau Twins. By 1996, their sound had changed drastically, and it's not to my taste.
It's different but very sweet in it's own way. Their Blind Spot ep was an ideal marriage of all their previous works and it saddens me that this glorious talented duo ended its course..
@@user-dw6uc3wv6c From what I've read, it seems as if Emma Anderson wasn't that happy with the "Lovelife" sound and wanted to do something more like what they'd been doing previously. Then, tragedy struck and nothing else happened with their next planned LP. You're right: it's a matter of taste. But, "Lovelife" is so unlike their earlier music that I just can't get into it. And I actually really hate songs like "Ladykillers" and "Shake Baby Shake."
@@julianhermanubis6800 Ha ha, I see your point mate for 'Ladykillers', but we should not omit pop jewels like "I've been here before". On the other hand, you could find sparkles of the old flame in tunes like Tralala, Papasan and Olympia. As for 500, well, every great band has its soft side, I would say that it's the equivalent of Pixies 'La la love you" from Doolittle. Cheers!
they have the same english accent as me!! ive met alot of americans, canadians and australians in my adopted country (china) and they make fun of my accent sometimes so i think im a bit whiny, but its nice to hear two people i like alot speaking english the same way that i do!
Wow last saw Emma in the After Dark club in Reading, wasn't looking for the guys, but I'm pleased I found them again.. hope Emma is still cute. :) Lush was a fun gig. little guys from Reading, drunk and trying to slam dance on me.
Yo this is crazyy. I just discovered their music today so I decided to watch their interviews to see what they like. Please Take Note I'm Only 17yrs Old So Yeah.
They got some airplay in the early 90's when alt pop/rock was still big, but no way were they gonna compete with the edgier bands that American kids were hungry for. Once Nirvana arrived, it was over.
I can see why Lush never truly made it. They had some great songs but they lacked that abrasive personality the 90s audience wanted. The girls were very timid. They had a chance to open up here and show their personality and they were too scared to it seems.
Bob Mould was producing a Lush LP but had to quit because he said he kept picking the wrong girls song, i think he kept picking songs Miki wrote which upset Emma. Bob quit so the band wouldn't break up !
Two classy, beautiful, TALENTED women. I love their music. more and more power to them.

Great band! Miss the 90’s alternative music.
As a 80’s fanatic, I’ve always said that alternative rock saved the 90’s.
Im listening to Miki's book at the moment. She had quite a turbulent life. Interesting band.
That's funny that they took a break to play an RHCP video and Lady Killer was about Miki having to deal with Anthony Kiedis on Lollapolusa 92 tour.
And they talk about Blur, their bassist was one of their reasons for Ladykillers. There was another name for inspiration, but the main inspiration was Kiedis. Even the video makes direct references

I've always heard the last verse ("Blondie was with me for a summer") is about original Weezer bassist Matt Sharp.
