    We have lots of questions about how to make this bigger. With precuts it is pretty easy. 1 pack of strips makes a small twin/ lap and 2 is going to make a double/small queen. You can then border them to make to make them as big as you need, or buy another pack! I hope this helps!

      Jenny this is really fun how can send you pics of my quilt of this key hole pattern I want to show that I learned from you

  • @adventureswithfabric6710

    I really love the simplicity of this quilt. I cut my strips at 6 1/2”according to the instructions, but since my edges were pinked, the strip sets of 3 were slightly larger than 6 1/2”. If I were to make this again, I’d probably cut 4 strips at 7” so there’s some wiggle room. I don’t ordinarily use pre-cuts and didn’t realize how hard it is to be accurate even when you conscientiously sew 1/4” from the “valley”s. All in all, quick and fun. Thanks.

    It’s now 2024 and I still love this quilt! With all the fabrics, jelly rolls, layer cakes, etc. we have new every year, this quilt could be made over and over and never have a duplicate! Thus would be a great donation quilt for my quilt guild without the borders - our charity works with children in crisis ages from very small through around 16-17 and these quilts are not intended for a bed (although they could be)! They are meant for something personal that they can carry, sleep,under or whatever they choose so we don’t make any larger than about 48”-50” wide and about 605”-65” inches long at the most as we have no idea the children’s ages when the time comes for donating (either Sept. or Oct.). So many thanks to Missouri Star for all the wonderful quilts that have made and will keep on making!

    One of the first quilts I saw was a keyhole quilt, although at the time I didn't know what it was called. Some gal was at a local fabrics store where I sometimes shop and she was looking for backing to match her quilt top. Her quilt's colorway was browns and blues. Absolutely stunning. I was a newbie quilter and so I just could not figure out how she made the blocks. They reminded me of tissue boxes, to be honest. Anyway, once again, Jenny, you have solved a quilting mystery for me. Definitely putting this one on my to-do list. Thanks for the great tutorial. :-D

I have a bunch of fabric mostly from the same collection and I am using that. I will send a photo when I finish it. I don't want whites in this because of spills from greatgrandsons. I love them dearly, but coe on, use a darker color when you have little ones around. It wont stain as easily.

    ...to make the inside 'keyhole' more scrappy, could one make a 'tube' strip set using 6 jelly roll strips, then just pick it apart, at different intervals (like bargello), so that you have more variety within the 3 little squares that make up the keyhole part?

    • @Candeerose3
      @Candeerose3 Před 6 lety +5

      I understand what you are saying D H...I'm sure you can make the center anyway you want. Maybe one fabric center, a fussy cut piece, or two fabric block, etc. Being creative and going outside the box makes it fun. Strips sewn together and cut on the diagonal would be nice too.

    • @HRHDMKYT
      @HRHDMKYT Před 6 lety +3

      Great idea, D H! I think you can totally do that. Or instead of strip sets, just cut 2.5" pieces from the remainder of each jelly roll strip, and randomly sew 3 together for each of the 35 blocks... and the middle border (it's not *that* much extra work! ;-D). This easy-but-delightful pattern is definitely going on my "must make" list, to be made with all my jelly rolls from MSQC. ~Diana from Toronto

    So we're cutting the same three color strips sewn together that go in the center for the 6.5" strips as well and we'll be mixing them all up from other strip sets? Would you say the outer border is a 5" or 5.5" one? I'm trying to look at the 2.5" inner white strip and guess from there. It's a really pretty quilt! Thanks for the tutorial!

    • @Candeerose3
      @Candeerose3 Před 6 lety +4

      It sounds like you'll be cutting 6" length from strips (4 for each block) and then sewing three other strips together and cut them 2 1/2" to be used for the center. The outer border (red) looks to be 5". If the keyhole block finishes 6" @ seven blocks across and then add the three 2 1/2" border strips that totals 54" wide, then add 5" wide border to measure off at 63 finished.
      I have a bunch of fat quarters I'm going to use to make this. It can be done with a jelly roll, fat quarter and any fabric of choice. Personally, I'm going to make mine a bit larger seeing as I have a lot of same collection of fat quarters.
      I hope this helped you out. Happy Quilting!!

      I think the first cut for the print strips should be 61/2”. If you sew three 21/2” strips together accurately, they should come out to 61/2”. Now, mine usually don’t come out that accurately, but I think that’s the size they are supposed to be.

    We love our Jenny! Another great quilt. How wide is the outer print border, please?

    Jenny, I see you using an amazing array of rulers in your projects but - being someone with a limited income - I just wanted to know what is the basic combination of rulers you would suggest is absolutely necessary ?

    Love the quilt and am making it right now! One question - how did you come up with the duck quack at the beginning of each tutorial? I love it!!!

      Hi Michele! It is the Jane. It's great for sewing straight lines quickly!

    Just a thought but the block you made looks like the number 8. That could be done with all the blocks and called a Crazy 8 quilt.😃
