- VOR approaches give every IFR pilot heartburn. There is a ton going on, and the situational awareness required can be greater than on a GPS approach. Here are the mechanics of getting set up for and flying a VOR approach, and then flying a missed approach and hold.

Sir you have no idea how much help you provide us students .God bless you
I was literally practicing this (on paper) an hour ago - thank you! You have a great knack for explaining things.
I can see why vor is getting phased out.
My cfi is always telling me that it's not fair that he didn't have much of what's available now when he was learning back in the day. ha
LMAO
Try an NDB approach.
I feel blessed to discover this channel. Thank you.
I really like how this is laid out for this topic and I'm glad you added the hold at the end and discussed the point about not turning the OBS.
Thank You For these videos watching from Jamaica
Excellent presentation. Thanks
Great explanation, thank you.
Hey,
I am currently in high school and want to become a commercial pilot soon and I get a lot of help from your tutorials. Thanks to you I can fly general aviation aircrafts much easier than I could (in sims ofc) before I found your channel. Keep up the great work and again thanks for being a guide for us!
Hey did you start your training yet?
any progress?
Today’s students are fixated on the glass cockpit. As an example with Microsoft flight simulator, and the Bonanza, equipped with a Garmin G-1000, I flew from KJEF to KFYG in Missouri. The database does not contain the VOR-A approach. However, the approach can still be flown which I did, using the heading bug and following along on the approach chart to proper altitude. When I hit the MDA, I went missed and again by using the bug I was able to fly the missed and enter and establish a hold. This had to be done without any magenta line or map on the MFD because it is not contained in the database. I made sure that my CDI was set to VLOC and use my heading bug and course selector. You can fly non-precision approaches that are published but not included in the sim’s database as long as you have the approach plate. You don’t need a moving map which is great for situational awareness, but it’s old school and it works. Maybe make a video on something like that where you’re not watching. Any map on the MFD. Keep up the good work.
dang i wanted to learn how to land a cessna
Question: why fly outbound for one minute for the parallel entry at ATR? Couldn’t you fly a tear drop entry or even just an immediate parallel entry? Why the timed entry is what I’m getting at.
Thanks!
You from Maryland mate? The branding looks very similar to the O’s and ridgely is right out side the sfra from us at Navy Annapolis Flight School. Lol
Rock on!
Love your channel, you make it easy!
Guilty as charged! Based out of College Park

@2:40 - If you are flying outbound at the same altitude as the inbound, isn't the risk of a collision extremely high? @4:50 Why do you execute a left turn to intercept, not a right turn?
For a parallel entry, you always want to turn into the "safe" area of the hold.
