- After flying into the Athens International Airport I stayed for two nights in Artemida, a small seaside town just a ten minute drive away. But it wasn't exactly the Greek paradise that I was looking for.

Tha abandoned buildings at the start of your video were tavernas and bars a few years back but the owners were forced to demolish due to state law prohibiting structures near the sea dna archaeological sites (right infront of them are ancient ruins as well as right next to the "bombed place" you mentioned). The bombed place was burnt a few months before your video. It was a great beach bar/restaurant and windsurfing schoo/center. The onwers lost everything to that fire. The building itself, the windsurifng equipment etc. The cost to rebuild and rebuy everything was enormous and a lot of people from of the town transfered money to the onwers to at least rebuild the windsurfing school. Keep in mind that Artemida is not a tourist attraction. It is a suburb of Athens that a lot of people live at and that have nothing to do with the turism industry. On the other hand, there has been a lot of missuse of money in the past and a lot of things could be better in the town. The Greek debt crisis, and the covid restrictions damged the area alot the past years but it is getting back to its feet year by year. Artemida is also transformed during the summer months since it is one of the nearest destinations for the people of athens to swim, eat and drink at the local beaches, tavernas, bars and clubs.
Thanks for the info, that explains it.

So here is our experience of Artemida as tourists. In August 2023 following an amazing 10 days stay at Dionysos Hotel in Ixia Rhodes we were looking to stay for a few days somewhere seaside in Athens. Mainly because our 7- and 9-year-olds love swimming. We booked an Airbnb in Artemida. We had an 8.55am flight on 09/08/2023 from Diagoras Airport in Rhodes and landed in Athens at 9.40am. We had booked a car with Avis and picked it up from the Airport. Only 15 minutes later we were in our accommodation. By 11am we were swimming in Artemis beach! We were very impressed with the golden sandy Artemis beach. The kids loved that unlike Ixia in Rhodes, in Artemis there were no stones going in the sea and the water is quite shallow. The beach was clean and organised with umbrellas and sunloungers. You could get drinks and food by the beach. Although the service was sometimes a bit slower than we would have liked it didn’t really bother us. The owner of our accommodation gave us some great tips where visit and eat. There are some amazing fish tavernas and we dinned a couple of times literally next to the sea once by sunset! We drove to the Designer Outlet Smart Park a short ten minutes drive from Artemis, to buy new luggage because the wheels of our old one got destroyed in transit. There, we did some more shopping. They have some lovely activities for kids like trampolines, arcade etc. Next day we took the kids to the Attica Zoo again 10 minutes drive away from Artemida. They loved it! We also drove to the temple of Artemis which was less than ten minutes away where there is a lovely archaeological area and a delightful museum next to a wetland. The whole area there is out of this world totally unspoilt. Our experience of Artemida is nothing like described in this video. However, we did our research before going there and we did use tips from locals to help us make the most of our stay. We loved Artemida and we will happily return there, it is a lovely place. Euxaristo poli Ellada we love you!
It's a difference if you visit in early May (out of season for this place) or in high season in August. Plus you did touristy family stuff (which is completely OK of course!) and Gabe is not so much showing these "best 5 things to do" in xxx.
Greece is one of my favorite countries in the world
welcome Back to Greece Gabriel, Καλώς όρισες
Check out Monemvasia if you not been there, few hours drive south of Athens, gem of a place😉

I'm SO excited you're back in Greece! Your videos make me feel like I'm there too. I can't wait to see where you go next. Happy and safe travels. 🤗
Yayyy! Back in Greece! The food. The islands. The beaches. The ruins. And the Music! Can’t wait!

Too early to visit greece in may. Islands are too windy this time of the year
@@andraskleistenes8586 what do you think about september? I'm going september 10-21
@@dsadawrware September is perfect time. The see will be very warm, and calm, sometime less windy than in the middle of the summer ( meltemi wind) Dodecanese are less windy than the Cyclads generally, but September is perfect everywhere. Wind keep the temperature cooler in the Cyclads , so someone prefer these islands for that reason
@@andraskleistenes8586Greece is gorgeous all around. I was in march in mainland Greece. Paradise
Not that terrible. Ive seen some areas of Athens that make this place look like paradise.
Same, I've also been to Piraeus which is an absolute shithole.
The whole area of Greater Athens is just a mess with some bright exceptions. Worst, ugliest most brutal and stressful place to work and live in Europe. (Greek here)
@@matthewxuereb5129Piraeus/Πειραιάς isn’t that bad. Sure it’s seems a bit deprived in places but your description is perhaps a bit strong imo. My partner is originally from Athens (Vyronas which is one of the lovely parts of Athens) and we go to Piraeus one day every year, eat at the restaurants at the side of the Zea Marina which tbf is beautiful. The cesspit of Athens without doubt is Omonoia, not Piraeus
@@Gk-ug6guironically I’d say the worst place in Athens is Omonoia right in the centre, above any of the Athenian suburbs!
Omonoia, Exarcheia, Syntagma, Monastiraki visit these at night and the adjacent streets xD
Nice to have you back ❤
Welcome back to Greece Gabriel.
I'm looking forward for your next videos.
Sometimes seeing the good and bad areas makes the country more authentic, I found it very interesting .
We stayed in Artemida after flying to Athens from Mykonos for two wonderful days early September 2023. We really liked this resort. Our hotel was right next to the sea. Our room had sea views. There are some great seaside tavernas and beach bars. We ate too much seafood and grilled meat! Delicious food. The beach was beautiful, sandy. There were many places with sunbeds and tropical umbrellas for shade we could choose to sit and have a drink or eat by the beach. We did not had to worry finding a sun bed anytime of the day. The water was crystal clear. We felt really safe in this town. Most people spoke English and happy to help us. We found it really easy to get to Artemida from the airport, around 10 minutes away. It felt like we were in a Greek Island. Best to rent a car as we found there is plenty to explore. Through driving around we found Artemida is a large town with many different beaches and plenty of restaurants. We particularly liked the Island Basket restaurant (right next to the sea!). We definitely will come again and recommend, if you want to be seaside near the airport for your flight back home. Stay well my Greek friends!!!! 😊
Artemis/Artemida is one of the most upcoming areas of Attica. It has the best windsurfing spot in Athens, some of the nicest traditional seaside tavernas you can find, it is only 10 minute drive from Athens International Airport, the Attica Zoological Park and Greece’s biggest shopping center SMART Park. You clearly went off season, intentionally selected a few places that look run down and neglected all the beautiful spots either because you wanted to prove your point or because you are completely ignorant of the area. You have also called it the worst area of Greece as if you have been in every part of Greece to know.
It's great to see you start your Greek tour again, since I had been watching your Greek videos several times, never feel bored of it. I also had traveled in Greek islands many times, and guess what, I will be coming again in the begining of June, so it helps me a lot to see your videos, Thanks.
I would recommend to drive south to Peloponnesow, go to Nafplio, Leonidio, Sparta with Mystras, maybe pass by my father's village Arna up in Taygetos mountain if you have time, then head south to Gythio , Areopoli, Limeni, Diros, Gerolimenas, Vathia, Marmari, Cape Tenaro. Also if you have even more time visit Monemvasia, Plytra and Kyparissi

Just remember, Greece just like Ireland suffered massively from the economic crash, so some areas may not be up to scratch. But Greece is still the best country to visit.
Better than Ireland (to be sure!). Visited Dublin last year and felt I would be mugged several times in B-road daylight.
This mess is not because of the financial crisis but because of the greek attitude not to respect the environment plus the inability of the municipal authorities to provide basic services. They prefer to keep the money for themselves...
So happy to see your back in Greece looking forward to your travels I thoroughly enjoyed last year’s I learned a lot 🙏
Hey Gabriel...Good to see you back in Greece. A heads up, this Sunday may the 5th it's Easter Sunday in Greece...Transportation will be chaotic but I have 2 suggestions for you No1 place to be in greece on Easter Sunday is The town of corfu Island .where on Saturday morning at 11 o'clock its the tradition in the town of corfu for people to throw huge clay pots off their balcony...Hundreds of Huge clay pots the ones ancient Greeks used to store olive oil & wine,,,And if u can't make it to Corfu you can go to my home town of Leivadi( near the ancient site Delphi) where it's a tradition for the city of Leivadia to roast 100 plus lambs and people can enjoy Easter roasted lamb for free....
i am in Leonidion for Easter. Very opposite from Corfu tradition. Quiet, clean, so arranged, with big and small lanterns to fill the sky in Easter and Easter Eve nights! Beautiful! With food and wine and music to all visitors to enjoy! I love it!
Gabriel ,(just an idea) the Ionian islands in Western Greece with their green dramatic landscapes and turquoise waters could be a nice region to see in the future! It is always a joy to see your uploads! Wish the best.
I agree. Lefkada and Ithaki are my favourites 😍
I've been to all of them except Lefkada: czcams.com/video/pa9yExrp33Q/video.html

Good looking accommodations ! Onward with the Greek adventure! Love it!
Your apartment was very nice! Yes the buildings look run down but I noticed their streets are clean and don't see homeless. The beaches are decent too. Love your Greece videos!
Generally the streets in Greece are clean...compare it to german cities like Cologne, which is dirty like hell
We don't have homeless people at least in artemida.
Perfect time to be in Greece now, before the season starts. Curious for your adventures... You have a special connection to Greece, and anyone who truly felt the magic of the Greek Mediterranean will understand that. Looking forward to your travels, enjoy and take care.
Next time stay at Seasabelle Hotel 320€ a night. Just down the block from where you stayed. Not abandoned buildings there!
Your travels in Greece are some of my favorites! Looking forward to more exploration to come!
Have a great time in Greece, Gabriel. Visit Plaka as there will be less crowds with Easter Sunday coming up-as most Greeks go to their provincial counterparts and Athens should be somewhat empty..
Take us to Nafplio in the Eastern Péloponnèse-it’s supposed to be quite the place.
My mom is from SW Péloponnèse if you want a picturesque town and great beach -it’s called Finikounta. You won’t have to worry about big crowds yet…
You do know that you got into Greece kind of early in the season, lol
Enjoy, and thank you for taking us along..
Watching you from Calgary, Alberta and waiting for you to come visit us here as well!!
All the Best ❤️😘🙏🏻💛💚🩵
artemida might not have the best roads and buildings but it has one of the best beaches in athens.its a large sandy beach with very clear water even if it is very crowded
In your imagination only..
Omg, Gabe is back in Greece! YESSS!!! 🙂 Please tell me there are quaint Greek villages, turquoise waters and Byzantine Chapels in the near future? That's my fav 👍
Yes, definitely.
This place will be packed with Athenians during weekends starting from June. The beach in Artemida is shallow and the sand very thin, water is clear though. It is not the best place close to Athens with regards to the beach standards. You can head a few km south to Porto Rafti which is much nicer overall. The best beaches are located at the southern part of Attiki and not at the eastern area where you are currently.
Welcome back to Greece Gabe. Very happy to have you here again.

what i liked the most is that this place remains calm and natural as it should be.. and not vandalized and organized by the so called modernity of our times ,in order to show off its beauty.
Appreciated seeing this - some travel vloggers only show the "pretty stuff" - it is nice to see reality from your channel. Anyway, a nice chill day in a comfy Airbnb sometimes does hit the spot when one has been travelling a lot.
Sometimes these lesser places touch the strings more flashy ones don’t. Great video.

Welcome back to Greece! Have a nice stay!
Near there at Mati 2018 was the most devastating and deadly fire around hundred died and whole area after Rafina burned, adding covid to that I find it in great shape.
You must understand you are visiting a beach area at the end of April . By June , Artemida will be full of Beach goers and people vacationing. Not really fair to say the area is shabby considering it hasn't opened for summer season. To keep saying it's not attractive, you must be comparing everything to the islands . Each place has its virtues and I can think of worse places in Athens to visit.
Food looked awesome!
So many nice restaurants in Greece!
Bring it on! Can’t wait to see some of the Greek islands!! 👍
The food looked luscious. Great vlog as always.

GREAT to see you back in Greece! Have you checked out Patras, the 3rd largest city there? It's got some really nice town squares, restaurants, a castle overlooking the city/bay, and a great museum too. And the engineering marvel, the Rion-Antirion bridge is a great link to Nafpaktos, a nearby, charming beautiful port city across from Patras. A few miles down the road, I would also venture into the mountainous region above Nafpaktos and go to small, scenic villages like Platanos (House of Iphegenia is a scenic hotel built into the mountain; gorgeous stone road there too), Perista (built into the mountain), and and cross the Techniki Limni Evinou (near Kedros Chalet). The mountain driving is stunningly beautiful! You can do this in a day or two (better). Safe travels!
In 1990 I took a ferry from Brindisi, Italy to Corfu island, then another ferry from there to Patras. But I didn't stop and explore, caught a train from there straight to Athens. So no, I haven't really seen it.

Artemida was a pretty popular place for Athenians back in the 80s. My family used to rent an apartment for the whole year, although the best time to be there was definitely summer. Take a 10+ years crisis into account and you have an explanation why so many buildings are abandoned. I haven't been there for decades myself, although I still live in Athens! At 14:57 of your video it was a great video games place! 19:39 the beach I've learned how to swim! So many memories! Wish you all the best!
Great vlogs 10:39 on Czech Republic. 🇨🇿 They reminded me of my trips. I usually based myself in one central location when backpacking Europe. Staying in one hotel or an Airbnb for a week and then booking day trips to surrounding areas each day from that one location. Staying outside of major tourist areas. I found I saw more, as I wasn't travelling for the sake of finding accommodation in those areas I wanted to see. It made for a lesser stressful trip having a hotel accommodation location for 1 week. I would get up early and then travel out to the sites I needed to capture for content and would return late at night to the same hotel/Airbnb. I would repeat this process for each country I visited. Similar to a spider, Web technique of ibranching back and forth to the same hotel location. I found this saved me money and maximised my content. This let me focus on content of interest rather than just making travel videos of me actually travelling to the location. This stopped my vlogs, mostly being of me videoing myself travelling. I would film 3 minutes of myself travelling to and from my intended destination. And then I would have more time to film content at my destination. Pity about Slovakia. I think you have gone to Greece too early. Great 👍 vlogsj
Thank you 🤗💙
You went to greece very early this year. I hope u make alot of great content there
Have you ever been to Kastellorizo? Really nice and super tiny Greek island, I went there a couple of years ago as a day trip from Kas, Turkey. I think it may be the smallest Greek island with car traffic, and also probably the one furthest from mainland Greece.
I think he has but not sure
I’m so happy to see you in Greece again❤
Welcome back! Artemida is ...OK during the summer, the sea is surprisingly good in some places, shallow and kid friendly with fine sand.
The temple of Artemis and the adjacent museum are worth a visit. Other than that the contrast in architecture compared to Vienna is striking.
It seemed like a nice place if you ignore the derelict buildings. Possibly they went broke during COVID. Working class areas can have charm, and the cheap but good accommodation could be a good base for visitors spending more than just a few days in Greece.
Just ordered greek food .. great coincidence!
Peninsular Greece is 83% of the country. It also has a [very long] coastline, historic towns, mountains, vineyards, olive groves, historic sites, etc. You've pretty much exhausted the interesting islands, except for a few (I don't think you've been to Chios, Lesvos, or Kithira). Looking forward to seeing you tour the Peloponnese region or Epirus. Perfect for spring. 😉 As for islands: since it's not heavy season, this might be a perfect time for the medieval City of Rhodes.
Greece has the longest Coastline in the Mediterranean.
In Fact, it is SO LONG that is basically makes up 33% of the ENTIRE Mediterraneans Coastline!
Crazy to think about. But not surprising considering just how many World Class Beaches that Greece has! 👍🏻
And the longest sandy beach in Mediterranean is in west Peloponnese in the middle kyparissiakos gulf ,its 60 km sandy beach bay with no stop, off course tthere is in israel and italy and spain long also but that beach it's a Little more then others and its beautiful

The beaches of Loutsa ( aka Artemis or Artemida ) are very good and clean for the metropolitan area of Athens. Among the best actually. Especially in April or May when there are not many people around. I swam there about 2 weeks before you were there ! If you want to visit a better tempke to Artemis take the bus to nearby Vravrona Βραυρώνα and then a taxi or walk a bit towards Porto Rafti. You will see the archaelogical site near the sea and it also has a museum.
