My favourite books are definitely the Hetty Feather series! I love how strong Hetty is and how easily she takes on new things. I found it really interesting reading about her experiences because our lives are sooooo different. I've been growing my collection for around three years now and I'm sooo obsessed! My favourite books from when I was little was Little Darlings and Cookie, I used to read them with my Mum before bed, it was soooo much fun.

I love Jacqueline Wilson so so much, some of my favourites are the hetty feather series, opal Plumstead, my sister Jodie, candy floss and lily alone. I don't think you mentioned these ones but I live four children and it, queenie and the worst thing about my sister. I hope you manage to finish your collection !!

    • @daysoutdreaming

Yes, those three! We've actually read them all (and The Longest Whale Song and Clover Moon that didn't get a mention) but we don't own them physically, so forget to say anything! It's so great to add some of her newer books like Opal to your favourites list - JW's still got it after all these years, ahah!

I have read most of the ones that you ladies have not, and i would urge you to get to them as they are really good. Especially the two with male protagonists. Thanks for a great videos!!

My favourite Jacqueline Wilson book growing up was the Dustbin Baby. I am adopted so I resonated with the characters need to know where she came from. I also love Midnight and Vicky Angel. I already had a few Jacqueline Wilson books from childhood, and I read a few more last year, so I have decided to collect them all! I am hoping to next read Kiss, and re-read Lola Rose.

    • @HeartFullOfBooks
      @HeartFullOfBooks  Před 7 lety +2

Hopefully we can find the rest of her books that we're missing too! That's so great that you found a connection with Dustbin Baby. Double Act was the first time I read about twins, but Bee and I were nothing like Ruby and Garnet (if anything, we were two Garnets), but I just love that JW's books made little ten year old me aware of abusive relationships/divorced parents/abandonment that I wasn't experiencing in real life. Reading her books definitely made me a more empathetic person, for sure! Kiss is a great one, and definitely has more resonance now that I actually understand the LGBT+ themes!

My favorite book as a child was The suitcase kid! I owned the story of Tracy Beaker, but The suitcase kid I lend from the library so frequently that I can still recall exactly where on the shelves I could find it (and I am 31 right now, so this is at least 20 years later). I loved the story and how attached to her little stuffed animal she was, and I always felt for her so much. Really recommend that one!

You guys have prompted me to go on a jacqueline Wilson backlist dive. I can't even express how much Jacqueline Wilson meant to me as a kid. The Bed and Breakfast star, the girls series and Best friends were my faves as a kid. I haven't read or reread any since I was about 11 (I'm 24) but as an adult, Bad Girls, Vicky Angel, Girls under pressure and Tracy Beaker stand out in my memory as particularly poignant and influential to me. I loved this video!

We were definitely annoyed with our younger selves for getting rid of so many of her books. I mean, they didn't cost much from charity shops but still. We're really nostalgic readers, and so I can't wait to read some of these books ten years later and see what they're like.
Tracy Beaker is definitely the one I'm most curious about. I remember the TV show more than the books (and totally watched Tracy Beaker Returns when we were 16 and loved it 😂)

First one I ever read was Bad girls, and that was only a few years ago. I am a father, starting to read these books to my daughters, and they are so good. I hope to write a story of my own! Thank you for making this video. Hey, anyone wish bad girls got made into a tv show?

I think a few weeks ago you showed these in your bookshelf tour and from there I was just like "I used to love her! I need to buy some." 😂I had been in a real slump so I bought myself and my sisters a boxset from the works and split them between us. We've all been reading her books 😂it definitely helped me get out of my reading slump! I reread Dustin Baby, The Lottie Project and Vicky Angel. I can't really remember which out of all of hers I liked the most! But I loved the "Girls" books and used to feel really grownup reading love lessons xD I might have to pick up some more for quick reads when I feel I'm going into a slump :3

The Works is the best! I know exactly what boxset you're talking about 😂 We totally agree in them being perfect slump books, especially the short ones that you can finish in an hour 👌 Also, you managed to mention three that we haven't read, but am really looking forward to getting to!
(Not sure I'm pumped for the student/teacher relationship in Love Lessons, but it's got to be one of the OG books of that trope!)

Edit: I cried when I read My Sister Jodie! The ending was so sad!

  • @rosiethreakallrosiefreckle5765

I'd love to know which ones are left that you dont own/haven't read!
My fav JW book is Midnight. I remember when I was younger I was at a drama club and my "friend" decided to let go of my hands as I was spinning around. I smacked my chin on the floor and lost half of one of my front teeth. With a huge gap in my mouth, and feeling HYSTERICAL my dad went and got me Midnight. It was so special to me because I have a big bro called Will too and my other brother Andrew reminded me a lot of Will's character. I re read it recently and it was amazing. I deffo need to reread Double Act, The Bed and Breakfast Star and T Beaker!

Ahhh, that's such a great (if painful!) story! Candyfloss is particularly special to me because I got it at a car boot sale my Grandad took me to :D
Ones that we didn't mention but have read: The Longest Whale Song, The Worst Thing About My Sister, Four Children and It, Queenie and Clover Moon. We got all of these from the library, bar CM which we have on Kindle!

  • @bookmarksandbookshelves3998

I met Jacqueline Wilson in Bath aged 11 in 2009 and she signed my copy of Jacky Daydream. Sadly, my copy has fallen into a sorry state :( but I grew up reading her books and loved watching the adaptation of Dustbin Baby on TV. My favourites are: Jacky Daydream, My Secret Diary, Hetty Feather, Starring Tracy Beaker, Lola Rose, Sleepovers, Little Darlings and Cookie.
I haven't read Midnight but do have a hardback copy of it. Maybe I should read it sometime? I also managed to find a book called Nobody's Perfect by Jacqueline which was published in 1982!

Wow, that's got to be one of her earliest titles! YES, I'd totally recommend Midnight, it's got such a strong friendship element to it. Now I need to hunt down some of the old adaptations to watch too!

Now jaqueline has realised rose rivers which is about a richer girl in the same era and hetty feather Christmas but it is a short limited one but I would recommend them both.
Just came across you so I am going to sub obviously I read most of these.
It is great to see how other people interpet the books I have read.
It is surprising how many I have read without remembering it and it is great remembering them.
    ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
My favourite is the hetty feather series Lilly alone midnight or sleepovers -realises more she loves- other than hetty feather I couldn't pick a favourite.
