For those who are getting a Foodsaver for the first time, you will find it indispensable for prepping. I did rice in smaller quantities, beans and almost anything dry and they still hold theirseal after many years. The beans give off a gas over time (and after consumption), but that doesn’t mean you lost the seal. There is still no oxygen in there. Sharp objects like egg noodles will puncture the bag so they should be double bagged and handled carefully. Be sure to get an extra box or two so you have some after shtf. Lastly, meat sealed in foodsaver bags will not get freezer burn and keep in the freezer for at least a year.

@Alaska Prepper, Never use an oxygen absorber and moisture absorber together. The oxygen absorber needs that moisture to work properly. By using BOTH you render the oxygen absorber inoperable, hence the reason it was still pliable as if it were brand new in this video. Peace

What a terrible grievous shame! And not uncommon! I was visiting with a local apple orchard owner, and asked where the trees that they had first planted were, and she sadly pointed out the window to the interstate. They had all been bulldozed for "eminent domain." There is NO compensating for that kind of loss and future growth.

I only have a small deep freezer and with the nuts and the blackberries that I have gotten it is completely full. I don’t think I could find a place for a small frozen ice tray. Now I can get them out of the freezer and bag them up and store them in the pantry with everything else that is my long term storage. I have just started prepping and have been totally amazed at how much the Father in Heaven has provided for me. I have lots of food that I will be learning how to can and preserve.

Good morning Mister Alaska Prepper, liked the video very much. I really like and appreciate you taking the time to show us newbies the proper way of storing different types of foods. You didn't mention it but Georgia is generally the number one producer of Peanuts and Pecans in the U.S. Our weather this year has been pretty decent, but we did have a terrible storms come through South Georgia from hurricane Michael and a virus to last years crop that really has affected prices. Pecan trees were terribly affected by Michael and are still struggling to return. Prices just continue to rise.

I went to our local Walmart today and there wasn't any water on the shelves. Nothing at all.
I'm considering these things as I'm preparing. It takes a lot of hard work but I'm doing more canning than buying foods that only require adding water. So when the water is scarce, we won't have to use it for food, only drinking. Also open and eat foods is just the wiser way to go. But I am buying dried foods too.
Also I purchased powdered eggs. The water that sits in some of my canned foods such as my Pinto beans ot ham, if it gets even worst than I think (and pray it doesn't,) I can use the broth in substitution of water for the eggs.
The most important of all is that we have the Lord for guidance, comfort, peace, protection, and endurance.

@Paco not a great idea. That depends on having water pressure that won’t be there in a grid down situation. I got an AlexaPur with extra filters, (both AlexaPur and Big Bertha filters). Those filters can make rain water safe to drink, or creek, lake, mud puddle. Mud will clog the filters fast, so if you MUST use puddle water, use a gallon glass jar and let the dirt and debris settle to the bottom before pouring the puddle water in, being careful to not let the bottom muck into your filter. My AlexaPur filters can filter 3,000 gallons, saving you Money and space. I admit under my dining room table are all the gallons of water I could fit there. I used to buy 30 gallons at a time. I can’t find that much water in stores anymore. Don’t know why...reverse osmosis is the best filter, but it requires water pressure too. Pur will filter some of the things in tap water, but they need the filter changed pretty often.

@Paco yes! Rudy even has a vid on making your own gravity water filter! I just looked and I’m floored at how much they’ve gone up! The place I got mine years ago for $200 is out of stock. I’ve always bought spring water, but I hurt me back and couldn’t carry 30 gallons in now. I just got the AlexaPur to save money. It used to be $100-$150 less than Berkey. I’d still buy the filters by Berkey or AlexaPur as I’ve read awful reviews for the “generic” filters. The Berkey filters fit in AlexaPur so I was just saving money. They are running around $324 now, and even generic plastic bucket filters are $200!!! Make your own and invest in the good filters to put in your homemade one. I think Rudy even made one with pebbles, activated charcoal and stuff. Better than nothing! I’d add some silver in there too since it is a well known anti-bacteria and kills virus and other pathogens. Buy some 10% nano silver too, not for the water filter though...Google it. It’s not the same as colloidal silver. Much better! (I know many will disagree) *I’m not a Dr. and this is not medical advice* I’ve used it for about 10 years. Look it up on Duck Duck Go! Or your fav browser...

Rule of thumb for oxygen absorber is:
100cc for quart jar or bag.
400cc for gallon jar or bag.
    2000cc for 5 gallon bucket.
In the example jar in the video, a 50cc oxygen absorber was used because most of the space inside the quart jar was already consumed by walnuts.
