  • Joe Elliott is the lead singer of one of the biggest rock bands in the whole world and a big soccer fan.
Joe Elliot and his band Def Leppard have recently finished a world tour playing to millions of fans. The band’s most recent album ‘Hysteria’, released in 1987, has sold 9.5 million copies in the USA, outselling U2.
Def Leppard had started work on a new album around eight weeks ago but decided to take a break as their last album was still doing so well in the US charts. Work never stops for Joe Elliot, who finds it difficult to relax and always reads a book or writes lyrics.
By his own admission, Joe Elliot is also fanatical about soccer and plays whenever he gets the chance.
I’ll be more upset the day I can’t play soccer any more than the day I can’t sing.
This episode of The Late Late Show was broadcast on 24 March 1989. The presenter is Gay Byrne.
