Your doing it right lad. Yeh it can always be improved on, but your fish don’t seem to be telling you that it needs to to be. I wouldn’t be too down about the fish with exophthalmia. Just keep doing what you’re doing and that eye just might get back to normal. If not I won’t be concerned providing it doesn’t show any other symptoms. Nice to watch a decent koi keeping Video. Could you give a bit more inside into the plumbing and set up needed for the gas boiler. Thanks Andy

Hi Andy, my pond is 3300 gallons and the boiler is a 15kw heat only boiler. The heat exchanger and thermostat were both from Absolute Koi, if you give them a call and mention Frank he will know what parts your after.
The heat exchanger I’m using is 170,000 btu and Iv found it to be a good match with the 15kw boiler 👍
As for alternating which heater to use depending on time of year, I actually went to Absolute buy a ashp when I received a huge bill from running a 3kw electric heater and while I was waiting to speak to Darren I got talking to a chap who had been running a boiler for years but had fitted an ashp to save money in summer but he said then the only time the ashp was more cost effective was when the air temperature was really high but in general on those days the heater wasn’t com-in anyway so he said he just ended up having the ashp as a back up heater.
Think you will be impressed 🔥

They can “survive” to quite low temperatures, I know others have had them down to 12c and they live in rivers that have low temps. Personally I wouldn’t want to let them go below 15c and as Iv found out temperature stability is really important 👍

Great video, and the system is looking stunning. I have a question regarding the up pipe?. How far is the smaller pipe going into the reducer? Does it touch the water flow in the 4” pipe or just above.

      Cheers Harry 👍
Good question about the up pipe, I was supposed to mention it in the video but forgot. It’s actually critical to how well it works, the pipe is only pushed in to the first straight section and doesn’t sit into the tapered section, that way all the bubbles are pushed up the tapered section. Out of interest I did try it pushed further in and it didn’t work nearly a well 👌

@@harrymeldrum9994 yes mate it works absolutely brilliant, at the minute Iv got the elbow off the top of it because the water is so clean I’m literally getting the dregs of anything in there. When I start feeding heavy and it starts chugging I’ll slowly increase the length of the 1.5” pipe. Highly recommend using the 4” tee method over the normal way as it catches so much more air and creates turbulence. Try to have it set so the tip on the rubber reducer is at water level or lower.
Trickle and pond tds are both 80👌
