    Hi Kent,
    Really get a lot of insight from your videos, was wondering when you can post more day trading videos as they do help. I have a small account that benefits when the price goes up, and use your analysis to an advantage, but was wondering if in a video you can do the opposite (trades when price goes up) to get your perspective. Much appreciated.🙏

But I actually start trading (buy) at 7:00am on Fidelity ATP for some Pre-market action because by the time 8:00 am hits... most of the stock that I'm interested in from night before is already up from the catalyst announced on previous afternoon (after market 4:00pm). Yes, it will just average your position. For premarket, I usually select ARCA route for premarket trades and leave at AUTO during regular session. You won't miss the best price. It will get it from wherever. Thanks for the support!

    Hey Ken, really appreciate your vids. You're the first one last year that was helpful while I was trying to figure out ATP. Now that I'm using it, I've been looking at the best way to get in/out efficiently... so, what are your thoughts about having two active-trade windows up simultaneously ? I have them linked, the first window is showing Level II and the hot buttons, and the second one is set for my selling - also showing the hot buttons - and the window is sized so that it doesn't show level II since I already have it up, thoughts? This way I'm ready to sell if I'm in a gapper trade with a quick 20c ish scalp. Thoughts?

    Hi love these vids. I have a question from a prev vid: do price improvements occur for limit buy/sell orders? I know you mentioned in a follow-up comment that they do, but do they occur as frequently in limit orders as market orders? If not, do you have any hypotheses/guesses as to what's happening?

    • @ThinkTradeProfit
      @ThinkTradeProfit  Před 3 lety +3

      Hi
      Randy Fan
      ,
      Price Improvements are much rarer on Limit Orders rather than Market orders. I can only guess why that is happening, but it is probably similar to the following.
      1. Note that Fidelity doesn't take payment on the orders they send to market centers, but they constantly monitor who is giving good fills and will make adjustments accordingly. www.fidelity.com/learning-center/tools-demos/trading-tools/price-improvement 'Fidelity, as the broker, will work to obtain the best available price because it can route the order to up to 75 market centers including exchanges, market makers and automated trading systems (ATS). These market centers compete for customer order flow by improving the price. That's "price improvement."'
      2. Market orders are simpler to handle, especially in fast markets with so many algorithms involved. Fidelity's market orders are filled nearly instantly (sub 1 second), so that means the whoever they send them to, fills them quickly and tries to offer something better than the best bid or offer. Limit Orders are harder to track, they have to wait for a specific price, so I imagine they get "stacked" somewhere and when the stock finally trades at that price they start executing. I think it is easier (and safe for their inventories) for those market centers to execute our small market orders instantly and offer price improvements.
      On stocks like FB and PYPL, which have varying spreads, sometimes spreads of .04, sometimes spreads as wide as .08-.11, I receive price improvements 70-80% of the time. Often times, the price improvement would be half of the spread or more. It adds up (significantly) if you trade often.

    • @ThinkTradeProfit

      Hi Atrum,
      You could do it, with both sell prices above your purchase price, if that is what you mean. You can also place a Sell profit target and a Stop Loss (below your purchase price). The easiest way to do either of these is in Trade Armor. It's a OCO (One Cancels the Other order), which means if either of your sells get triggered the other order is cancelled. Check out my Trade Armor video for the easiest way to enter that order - czcams.com/video/V4mLwwJrPiU/video.html . You can also enter it the hard way with Trades & Orders > Conditional Trade > (OCO - One Cancels the Other) and enter the orders that way. If you're new, watch the Trade Armor video (link above).

I also use these links early in the morning to see what is moving. www.marketwatch.com/tools/screener/premarket www.nasdaq.com/market-activity/pre-market I hope that helps. Good Luck!

  • @ca-parker
    @ca-parker Před 2 lety +1

    Yes, I've seen a lot of volatility in pre-market extended hours. Can get ugly on some active stocks, you'll see the market makers pump up a stock to soak the shorts from the day before and then trap a bunch of longs pre-market. Some observes watching may not know which way it's actually going to go. Because once you see a huge decline ten minutes going into the open, all of a sudden, you'll see a stock gap right back up and break the highs of the morning extended trading. Just remember this: it's okay not to take a trade. If in doubt, do nothing. Having money in your pocket is better than none at all.

    Do sell orders stack up on opening of the market? So many stocks have a very predictable first five minutes.

    • @ThinkTradeProfit
      @ThinkTradeProfit  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Shawn,
      Yes. Buy and Sells can "stack" up for the open. Most larger orders (for individuals and institutions) may be placed in the market a long time ahead of certain price levels. They just decide to scale out or in at major levels. Likewise, if one big market center receives a large order from a fund, they may purposefully drive the price higher/lower in the first few minutes to get ahead of the order they are working. If it's obvious on the "tape", then the other algos and players drive in the same direction (seeing that the large order action has hinted there is a buyer or seller in the midst).

    • @ThinkTradeProfit
      @ThinkTradeProfit  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Tommy,
      It's just a sweep of unused funds to help you earn interest. It doesn't relate to margin at all. It can't hurt you or negatively affect your Buying Power. When you go to purchase (or short) anything it's available and moved from SPAXX. Unfortunately, with interest rates so low, you won't notice much (you get credited after the end of the month for a small amount). When I had my PDT account sitting unused in 2019 (before COVID), I think I earned +1.x% annually. I would get a dividend payment like this - imgur.com/SnmBHRo each month.

    Kent, by 3 PM EST today TRXC was trading more than 184 million shares. But there wasn't any price action. Can you explain why so much trading would take place with a very small variation in price? What is the incentive for traders to do that?

    • @ThinkTradeProfit
      @ThinkTradeProfit  Před 3 lety

      Hi Dale,
      This is a 5 Day 5 Minute chart. imgur.com/IVK5U98 I know it's much easier in hindsight for me to make comments. I have no doubt I wouldn't have traded this amazingly in real-time. I see the volume started to increase on Friday afternoon, and the stock started to break out above 1.00. If you had bought at 1pm and held to 3:30pm, you'd have been up +20%. Maybe you take profit on half and hold half the position with a break-even stop. Then at 4AM today (Monday), it breaks-out stupid. Of couse, it's only $1.70-$2.70 a share in pre-market. Madaz, or Warrior Trading or anyone with a big account could jump in a buy 10,000-30,000 shares and drive this up. There might have been an order to Buy with some market maker also. Honestly, I think this was manipulation to get someone out of a large position. Create some excitement, this starts trading crazy, then at 10:15am today (Friday), it traded 12 million shares in that 5 minute period. That was what this was all about. But at 3pm, it was all over. Look at the volume, it dies down. By then, the stock has found a natural value, a balance, where people believe it is fair valued. You shouldn't have expected something amazing to happen AFTER all the volume has traded. If you own it, I'd put a 1.48 stop loss on it and see what happens tomorrow. You have to keep in mind, this stock is up +80% since Friday! I looked at Times & Sales between 10:10am and 10:20am where all the 12 million shares of volume traded. imgur.com/T43jid8 I expected to see bigger trades, but there are some 50,000 share lots and 100,000 shares lots. Maybe someone took a chance and accumulated 100,000 shares starting Friday, then got out at 10:15am. They would have cleared about $1 per share ($100,000). For wild micro-caps, the best trades go your way RIGHT AWAY, and you get out before the momentum stops. Looking at this at 3pm today, you're just late to the "party" which started Friday afternoon. I hope that helps!

      Sorry, I'll add one more thing to answer your questions, "Can you explain why so much trading would take place with a very small variation in price? What is the incentive for traders to do that?" This stock trades on the American Stock Exchange, so there is a Specialist who makes a market in the stock, displaying best bid and ask prices. They would rather it DOESN'T move crazy, because they can make the spread with less risk, and keep their own inventory low. If they get short or long too much and it moves in the opposite direction they have to adjust their quotes, consider the volume of orders coming in at the new prices, and try to stay on the right side of the market, etc. It looks like it had an 0.08 spread at around 10:15am. For every 1000 shares the specialists buys and sells he makes $80. Stocks can trade off-exchange and in dark pools and other places, but just do the math for the specialist if he traded 1 million shares today in/out today and managed his risk. He probably handled alot more than that.

    Can you comment to why many stocks are "kept in a range" regardless of good news / upgrades?

    • @ThinkTradeProfit
      @ThinkTradeProfit  Před 3 lety

      Hi Crime World Gauntlet
      ,
      That's a tough one without looking at a specific stock, but some of the reasons may be:
      1. Most analyst upgrades are late, meaning they upgrade the stock after it has moved already (like in the past week or two).
      2. Then there is "news" that isn't very good or innaccurate or the details have been digested by those who follow the stocks carefully. (Hedge funds/Mutual funds have their own people for analysis.) This would include Motely Fool's articles and recommendations, and anything published by major media (Yahoo Finance, Barron's, even the Wall Street Journal). Their news is old, or the people "in the know" have already acted on the info.
      3. Lastly, if the stock is not a big volume stock (say more than 2 million shares a day), then it is easier for market makers (and less risky) to have what they call "Sales Traders" call up funds that they have sold to or bought from before to take the other side of a new order to buy or sell stock that they may have received. For example, they receive an order to Buy 50,000 shares of PCTY from Fund A. PCTY only trades about 300,000 shares daily. They don't go into the market and start scooping up shares, because it would be easy to drive it much higher. They have their Instituional Sales Traders make calls around to funds that bought PCTY awhile ago (they are sitting on big profits, stock is up big in the last 6 months), and talk them in to taking some profits on some shares. Then they "cross" or print this trade between these two funds and take a small spread for themselves. This would keep the stock from moving very much.

      Hi TB,
      The GTC orders will only have a chance to be executed during regular market orders (9:30-4:00 ET). Unfortunately, you can only use Limit Orders during extended hours. You cannot use a Stop Loss order (same at Robinhood, TD Ameritrade, and Schwab, and probably more brokers) during extended hours. Extended hours is much riskier, more prone to manipulation because of less volume. The best you can do is watch a position during extended hours and keep up with any news or earnings that might be reported during extended hours.

    Let me add a comment about my recent experience here in June of 2022. I've recently turned to the dark side and am in the process of learning to accept a sell when it's a sell". Not doing so has cost me money in the past and I'm digging myself out of a few holes and here I am.
    Last week in normal trading hours, I ventured into a stock I had previously traded in 2021 I guess I was bored. I took a short trade of about 20X (2000 shares) the average lot size (about 100 shares) on currently low volume stock of an equity that is choppy to bearish momentum, in my opinion. I did some quick calculations, looked at the expected move, the deltas of corresponding options, etc. I tend to overanalyze, but I like to look at many variables to have as much data before deciding on placing a trade. When price moved up to 15-minute high I put a short bid out there to see if it would get filled, and wham it surely did! The larger lot actually moved the market higher... to my surprise. I knew that I was likely to possibly cover this trade with an ITM monthly put so I knew my calculated break evens should I need to hold this trade to expiration. Then price kept moving even higher so I white-knuckled it that day. Normally this stock can move about .60-$100 depending upon activity in the past, so I kept waiting for big dips my way, to no avail. Price moved higher to another level and I scaled into my trade by doubling up on the short to dollar cost average. The same thing happened, moving the market a bit higher than my fill, this time just a few cents. I was eventually able to close part of the position for a small win. The next day I was able to short the stock again by scaling in and price began to fall according to my devious plan. It did what it was supposed to do and I had winners all the way around. No puts were need. Patience and deep breathing exercises allowed me to hang in there. I've learned to hedge these type of trades in case things go awry. These markets are so choppy and I keep extra cash around to utilize and offsetting a position with options to balance out the position.

I find it more useful for long investment enter and exits vs day trades which can turn on a dime and very hard to enter in time of breakouts which typically start in forex time to the time before Fidelity opens premarket (delayed more than other brokers). You should be aware of the Pattern Day Trader rules. Maybe this is what you are thinking of? www.fidelity.com/learning-center/trading-investing/trading/day-trading-margin All U.S. brokers are required to enforce this rule created in 2001. If a margin account does more than 3 day trades in a rolling 5-day period, it must maintain a minimum balance of $25,000 at all times, or it becomes restricted. There are various suggestions on the web for getting around the PDT rule like this - www.warriortrading.com/how-to-get-around-the-pdt-rule/ I hope that answers your question. Good Luck!

      Hi Michael,
      Thanks for checking in. I did experience some "burnout" from making videos, but I have some new ideas that I am excited about. More to come soon. I have also been working a side business with some friends (not financial markets related). I'll check out the Fidelity Facebook group. I wasn't aware of it. Good Luck!

      You should be able to if your deposit has settled. You just can't do it more than 3 times in a rolling 5 day period or you get a PDT designation on your account. I hope that helps. If your account is super new and they credit your account, but the funds haven't cleared. Then, things get weird.
