    Back in the 80's I bought a 70 Challenger 318ci car with column shift- it had been fitted with a 383 and turned into an RT clone. I put in a B and M floor shifter- turned heads!

    Those shiny new-looking VIN plates look VERY suspicious in that stripped out and rusty old hull of a 1970 Challenger that's been sitting in the woods with no windows or hood.

      @@thomaswoody2733 At 2:05 in the video I didn't see him clean that shiny VIN plate. Perhaps your glasses are better than mine. In fairness, it's probably a real 440 six-pack car since it's sitting in a junk yard but "buyer beware" because there are LOTS of scammers out there today faking expensive classic cars and especially muscle cars. There are endless horror stories of people getting ripped off.

    Steve, great episode! I would live to say yes, I'll save it! But instead of giving Roadkill the money how about forking some over to you so you could assist with them going to a good home. Just maybe the "Disgustang" could be saved as well considering the rarity of 69/70 Mach 1's. Love the F&F brothers but let's start restoring the few that are left.

    Being an automatic it would have easily outrun a four speed car. This fact was proved in my mind when as a kid I seen it proven that my dad's automatic 68 coronet would eat the exact car with only the tyranny being the difference. My dad knew a guy that had a car just like his only with a four speed and it had no chance against my dad's. I'll bet that challenger was a bad ass car and flat hauled ass! The problem is that they ran a lot better than they stopped. More go than woe you might say! Observe the missing front end!

    The fact is that a lot of hemi and 440 six pack cars were ordered for drag racing which explains the bench seats and lack of consoles on most of these cars. They were ordered this way for less weight and the column shift automatics were modified for reverse manual shift valve bodies.

  • @daveridgeway2639
    @daveridgeway2639 Před 2 lety

    The column mounted shifter may have been an OVERSIGHT at the factory. Try to locate the factory build sheet that was placed inside the vehicle during it's assembly. I suspect that the build sheet is still present, due to the fact that car is unrestored. Check inside the steel springs of the rear seat "seat back" cushion first, then up under instrument panel assembly second, and so on.

Then he put a manual trasmission ☝ up the space. I was just glad in 83' to pay $3000. It was orange nlack billnoard fual exhaust panel in the rear. I went to Crysler dealer paid $100 each exhaust. My friend had restorded a junkuard roadrunner to running conition i got a pistol grip shifter and a pair. The previous owner kind of snickered that he had dropped a cam in it but i could see the edelbrock manifold and holley carb. The motor incredably strong. The clutch was very weak from all the modifications the front flash panel look like they had hit every pothole in Texas. It drove 1200 miles to up north. I had the rear wheel bearings replacef. He was a full time mechanic and recommended it before the trip. Cuda'
