- I needed a new body to replace my old body, which cannot be purchased anymore. I used the original body to create a mould out of model plaster. The trick was to get the model in good shape, while it had to be in 2 parts (otherwise it would not loossen).
The used material is 0,75 mm Vivak (copolyester) and it is heated by a 2000W patio heater. The vacuum is created by a standard vacuum cleaner (without dust bag to optimize vacuum).
The result was amazing! The next time I will use thicker material (I also have 1 mm), but this was a very succesfull test.

ik was naar een Amerikaanse Molding video aan het kijken...en die gast doet je eerst helemaal ontmoedigen..en dan laat hij je zien hoe je op de meest domme manier een auto body maakt..hij gebruikt een oven..en deze video hierboven is veel beter..en deze video moedigt je juist aan..Amerikanen doen bijna alles op de moeilijkste manier..terwijl het heel makkelijk kan.

Nu ben ik toch wel heel benieuwd hoe je de mal in twee delen hebt gekregen ik ben zelf ook bezig met het vacuumvormen van allerlei RC spul maar ben nog niet begonnen aan een hele kap omdat ik niet weet hoe ik het in meerdere delen zou moeten krijgen, doe je dit al vóór het gieten of erna ?

Thanks! very nice! do .75mm end up the same strenght as the original shells? also , form what kind of place you source the plastic ? i try on mine with .20mm i found locally , but its clearly not strong enough ...
@Mohammed: I used an original body and filled it with plaster. But you have to do it in 2 steps. First the front, and the second time the rest of the car. And then the difficult part. Sanding down the sides where both parts will touch!

Plaster! You drop the plaster inside your old body? Was it easy to remove without damaging the old body?
Kunt u mij vertellen of het nodig is de bodem van de mal hol te laten of mag deze massief zijn? En als deze hol moet blijven, hoe heb je dat dan eigenlijk gedaan?
Ik zelf heb naar jaren zoeken eindelijk een splinternieuwe body 1/10 uit 1990 waar er heel weinig van zijn gemaakt en er wereldwijd maar 1 in de paar jaar van nog word aangeboden en dan meestal in gebruikte staat.
PS gaat het gips makkelijk los van de orginele body? Deze mag namenlijk echt niet kapot.

If i have many little bubbles in the lexan, it was to hot?
inagerli That’s a common problem with Lexan. It has moisture inside, which will form the air bubbles when heated. To prevent this from happening, the Lexan needs to be heated to a certain temperature (200 Celsius???) for 24 hours before vacuüm forming.... That’s why I used a different plastic (not as strong as polycarbonate (Lexan) though.....)

I think he used gypsum and he poured it in to old body then he let it dry. After that he used sandpaper to remove all the scratches and then he cut it to 2 pieces and thats how i think he did it.. easy efective.
