Holy cow! Those old Fords are taking a beating! Of course, they weren't old then. And they were built solid. I wouldn't think of doing anything like it with our 2008 Pontiac G6. The first curb hop like that Fairlane took would just destroy it! Thanks for posting this. I really enjoyed seeing a good old-fashioned chase scene again!

At 1:09 you can see the site of the north portal of the Western Pacific Railroad's tunnel under Potrero Hill (just west of Arkansas between 18th and 19th). In the early '60s the wooden supports inside the tunnel caught fire causing it to collapse, and the WP never rebuilt the tunnel (but clearly left some rails behind).

The blue Ford that was destroyed disappeared from the Streets after the movie was filmed. The '63 Chev cab can also be seen in both the series and the movie.

and you can guarantee that old dentside is still roaming the streets somewhere. as much as a chevy guy as i am, i gotta give Ford credit where credits due. those things were resilient. grandpa told me stories of his old 75 dentside with a hopped up 460, 2wd, 4spd. said hed race all the kids back in the day with their chevelles, mustangs, camaros, and challangers back in san diego and hed always come first, somehow. rest easy pops.

Ida NORA Baker. The phonetic for “N” in police lingo, at least in California, is Nora, not Nellie. Frank Drebin, I’m very disappointed!

This chase sponsored by Ford! Ford, the preferred brand of car chases, Leslie Nielsen, and some guy who looks like Burt Bacharach in a turtleneck sweater. Ford, for your family entertainment!
