    This is the 2nd Toyota Land Cruiser / Prado 120 GX, 3.0 D4D I bought at auction!
    The problem with cars at such auctions in Norway is that they are often sold by banks, the state and debt collection companies. Then the owner has often removed everything they can, to make it difficult for those who are going to sell the cars. But it really does not have to be wise! The cars get lower prices, and this goes beyond those who will have their debt canceled ...... But frustration and anger, can go beyond common sense ....
    This car lacked a service booklet, so I know nothing about what was done with it. There are no marks with information about when the timing belt was last replaced!
    Then there is only one thing to do. You change the belt for safety!
    I do it together on my 2003 Land Cruiser / Prado VX - 3.0 D4D
    Unfortunately, I did not get a good video of that job on that car. That's why I took better time this time!
    Radiator hose + Viscose heater, was disconnected. This should not be necessary, many claim! But to be able to get there with light and camera, they had to go!
    The video is over 30 min ..... There's a reason for that then. If I had to make a video about this first, I would have to let it be so long !!!
    Toyota 1KD-FTV (or 3.0 D-4D engine) appeared in 2000. The engine was available first for the Toyota 120-Series LandCruiser Prado and later for the 150-Series. Also, this 3.0-liter diesel was offered for installation in the Toyota Mk.7 Hilux, Toyota Mk.5 Hi Ace, and Toyota Hilux Surf (Toyota 4Runner), Toyota Fortuner. The 1KD engines ousted the Toyota KZ engine series. But now the 3.0-liter version is rapidly being replaced by the new Toyota GD engine - the 2.8L 1GD-FTV.
    Disclaimer!
    The videos are made by an untrained mechanic! All the videos are therefore to be regarded as my own experiences, and no conclusion. The videos show what I have done, and the result does not always have to be as desired. Sometimes things go directly wrong, and then I try to find out what went wrong, and try to set a better example so that others will not have to make the same mistake as me.
    The videos were filmed by myself, and it may have been unknowingly missing to include ALL the details. I try my best to find out what I do and what I find out. But getting cameras in the right places is not always easy!
    Very important!!! Do not take any chances with safety, neither your own nor anyone else's! Never work under a car, without and double security. Things can happen, so you must always have extra safety in case something should break or overturn, etc.
    Working on cars poses a danger no matter what. So be aware, and if you do not feel 100% sure of the result, rather ask others to help you or double check what you have done, before you expose yourself and others to danger!
    -------------------------------
Man bytter remmen for sikkerhetsskyld!
    Jeg gjore det sammen på min 2003 Land Cruiser / Prado VX - 3.0 D4D
    Dessverre så fikk jeg ikke til noen god video av den jobben på den bilen. Derfor tok jeg meg bedre tid denne gangen!
    Radiator slange + Viscose varmer, ble koblet fra. Dette skal ikke være nødvendi hevder mange! Men for å kunne komme til med lys og kamera, så måtte de bort!
    Videoen er på over 30 min..... Det er en grund til det da. Skulle jeg først lage en video om dette, så måtte jeg la den bli så lang!!!

    Thank you! Tip: After removing the tensioner, one may press the spring into the tensioner and stick the original locking pin in or if you don't have one, stick a steel nail through so it is much easier to assemble the tensioner back. Once in place, the steel nail should be removed so the spring pusses against the tensioner pully.

    • @bildillamagasin
      @bildillamagasin  Před rokem

      Hello!
      Yes, as you say, it is entirely possible to use tension again, by pressing it together, and inserting a nail, or the like.
      But then you have to be sure that it is in good condition! This part is critical, same with the tension wheel, and the other roller wheel.
      I have switched to 2 pcs 120 series Land Cruiser / PRADO now. I changed to nyte tensioners and wheels on both. Both cars were bought at auction, and without history. Then I took no chances.

      It can be so much weird. The 120 is getting old now, so it could be so much that is starting to make strange noises.
      The turbo valve controller makes a noise when you turn on the ignition. It is a motor that drives a valve up and down. Strange sound, when you don't know what it is. This has stopped working on my car, so it has been standing for a long time now, without us finding the actual fault.

    I have a 120 3.0 D4D, with 147000km. I have not changed the timing belt yet but the car goes super well. Should I start to purchase a new timing belt?

    • @bildillamagasin
      @bildillamagasin  Před 3 lety +3

      Good day!
      147,000 km. The T-Belt light should show light at 150,000 km, I have been told.
      But here in cold Norway, we are recommended to change the belt at 100,000 km or have been 5 years, (whichever comes first).
      Yes I would buy parts now. 150,000 km is shown to be more normal in warmer parts of the world. But this is probably one of the cars where it is least work to change the belt. Then it is better to do once too much, than to stand along the road. :)
      These cars are built to take you to work or to adventure! Get the belt changed, and you save yourself a worry!
      I bought both my cars at auctions and they lacked service papers. So I changed the strap on both, just to be sure. The portions were reasonably priced and I could do it myself. Then I stopped thinking about it at least.
      Good luck with your car! Hope it gives you many good experiences!

    Registerremmen på 1KD-FTV, ser ut til bare å dra timingen på diesel insprøytingssystemet? Ser det hevdes at du ikke vil kunne få start viss dette er blitt satt opp feil? Da vil man kunne føle seg ennå sikkrere :) Men hva skjer viss denne remmen går i stykker når man kjører? Ventil styring må være en ekstern rem, eller kjede?

    • @bildillamagasin
      @bildillamagasin  Před 3 lety +2

      The nut on the crank on your Camry is very tight. After hearing everything you tried to get it loose, it can not be fixed after the repair book. My suspicion is that someone has used loctite on the bolt.
      The question is, can this be solved more easily by heating the bolt? Possibly how much heat the system can withstand?
      Too bad it's not as easy on the Old Camry as on the Land Cruiser!

    should i replace the water pump at the same time?

    • @bildillamagasin
      @bildillamagasin  Před 3 lety +3

      Good day! As a general rule, I have stuck to the wannpump being replaced with a timing belt. This is because most of the cars I have done this on, or had it done in the workshop ... On most, the water pump is driven from the timing belt. And the water pump is mounted inside / behind the timing belt. When you also consider that on most of these cars, it is a LOT of work to get to to change the timing belt ... Then the choice is very simple, replace the pump together with the timing belt.
      But on the 3.0 D4D - 1KD-FTV, the wan pump is separate from the timing belt. In addition, it is much easier to remove the timing belt. I chose to change only the timing belt.
      If I have not misunderstood, then it is entirely possible to change the water pump without having to disassemble anything in relation to covers etc. around the timing belt.
      But I will try to check more on water pumps, for my 2 120 series. May have been doing this simultaneously for most people, as one has disassembled to do one job, then it can most likely be easier to be able to perform the other job simultaneously.
      Regards Pål (Paul)

      Hello.
      A good question!
      Now I am not 100% sure, but have been told that this belt does not control the valves, but the diesel pump timing. Then the valve timing must be controlled internally, but possibly a chain or sprocket?
